Myst is one of the most best selling adventure games ever. But what is so special about Myst?Incredible 3-D graphics and a mysterious atmosphere with a strong sense that you are hunted by someone or something and the lonelyness you feel during the game makes it more mysterious. So,switch off the lights and enjoy your time trying to solve the game's puzzles(believe it takes a long time this).

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! A MUST-HAVE!

This has got to be one of the best games I ever played. The 3-D graphics and the sound in this game were outstanding that it blew me away. My favorite part in this game was "Stone Forest" in the Selenitic Age. Robyn Miller and Rand Miller gets 5 stars for putting terrific effort in producing it. You won't be disappointed in playing this game. BUY IT TODAY!

An Engrossing Challenge

I've just completed the Myst Masterpiece Edition game, and found it thoroughly engrossing. While not familiar with the original edition, certainly the Masterpiece Edition boasts arresting visuals and haunting music. The major part of Myst's draw is its puzzles, some of which are fiendishly difficult, but this edition has a digital guide which can step in with some assistance when needed. While making too much use of this feature would undoubtedly take the fun out of the game, every now and then it can help keep you from becoming totally stuck and frustrated. This game tests your powers of observation, memory, intuition and reasoning in an entertaining context, and solving one of the game's tough puzzles on your own is a satisfying payoff.

My dad got this game for me when it first came out and all we had was an outdated mac. At the time, I was too young to understand it and I just threw it on my shelf. A couple of years later I noticed it, pulled it out, and started playing it. Although it ran a bit slowly on the aging computer, I loved it. I loved the puzzles and the beautifully rendered frames and videos. A couple of years ago, I got a new computer, and when I saw MYST Masterpiece edition, I decided to replace my old slow mac version with the shiny new copy. I wasn't dissapointed. It's simply a wonderful, beautifully constructed game. My only complaint -- as I've noted in several other games, the graphics on the mac just look smoother and cleaner for some reason. But it is still an amazing game on the PC.

VERY FUN AND INTRUIGING!

This game is great. It makes you use your imagination and think a lot. I didn't understand the concept at first, but once you get the hang of it it becomes easier. I am not saying the levels get easier. I really recomend it to everyone who has an imangination and has a lot of time on their hands, because once you start you won't want to stop.

A pleasant surprise!

Amazing scenery and beautifully haunting music. If your looking for a quick game, then this is not it. You have to spend major time investigating everything, so if you have a short attention span or times a premium then you may be disappointed by this game. That aside, this is a great game! You don't have to run, jump, swim, or do rediculous acrobatics to progress(which allows you to look at the scenery instead of watch it flash by) you can't die or get trapped in this game so it's to the players advantage to try everything and anything. It is best to keep notes and draw sketches. My only gripe is one of the puzzles is based on sound and if your tone deaf it will be difficult to solve. The sense of lonelieness was very realistic as this game was very absorping and addictive! I kept expecting someone to jump out at every twist and turn.

Some True Advice!

This is a beautiful game. But I do have some suggestions that I feel will save you hours and hours of frustration but increase your enjoyment. Choose as you want.

The game can't be completed without outside help. Yes, I have heard of it being done for people with diagrams and 8 hours a day of free time. But I hope you don't have a family or a job! Please buy "Myst: Prima's Official Strategy Guide". I will tell you how to use it with a game in a minute.

Please buy the Masterpiece edition of Myst. I've examined it. And this edition does give clues! I would still buy the book no matter what. You will get a giant picture of Myst Island which is worth the price itself. Remember too, the graphics are better in the Masterpiece Edition.

2 hours. 3, 4, 5, 10. You decide. But I have figured out that if the player will time the amount spent in this game according to a certain regimen, then enjoyment is maximized while the pain of frustration is decreased. In other words, if 10 hours have passed without ANY forward movement, it's time to cheat a little. Just start reading the book until you get one clue. Then give yourself another 5 or 10 hours. But stick to the same time. If you do go forward, start your clock all over again.

Some of the websites are beautiful for hints. As well as friends. But this is your journey! They may blurt out too much at one time. Believe me.

I wish I had done this. I went to the back of the book and zipped right through the game! My brother got stuck and must have put in 20 or 30 hours before he started bumping his head on the wall!

Well, I guess you are ready to go. You will no doubtedly start at the dock and go into the library behind the trees. These is truly a great game. Just wonderful for teens and adults alike. Just keep your cool. And follow "My Method for Mastering Myst Without going Crazy in the Meanwhile." Say hello to Achenar for me.

Fantastic Game!

I think Myst is one of the most intriging computer games out there. The worlds are so realistic that I found myself completely detached from the outside world many times! The storyline is wonderful and I loved the idea of traveling to different worlds through a book. The Quicktime works excellent and in sync with the rest of the game, and the music is really amazing. The puzzles are VERY hard and it took me a very long time to solve a few (especially the underground maze in the spaceship world!) I plan to buy Riven very soon and have heared it is even better! I love the strategy involved and the in depth logic! And for all the Myst and Riven fans out there, I heard about a third game called Myst 3: Exile set to be released Spring of 2001!

Not Impossible!

The original Myst has stumped the most intelligent players. This version will give you hints and solutions to the puzzles if you get stuck. You won't be needing outside help with "this" Myst.

must-have software, even if you play few games

I have little time for computer games these days, but Myst is a must have piece of software for all home computers. If you haven't played an adventure game since the old text-only days of the 1980's, then you will be in for a hugh shock playing Myst on modern equipment!
