Not Compatible with Windows XP and Tech Support Warning

1 Rating: 1, Useful: 28 / 29

I bought the original Myst and loved it so I thought I would upgrade to the newer version. It doesn't list Windows XP of course, but I thought I would give it a try. It uses an older version of DirectX and Quicktime, and it appears that the Quicktime is the culprit. I tried getting support on the web, but it was not to be found. No patches either. I would recommend skipping this if you have Windows 2000 or XP. Riven works ok on these platforms with a patch, and the new MystIII works excellent as well.

This is a game?

Wake up everyone! This isn't a game! It's a slide show! You could make something like this in PowerPoint on your own for crying out loud!

Fantastic Game, Sorely Outdated

I played the original Myst on a Windows 3.1 oh so many years ago, and I loved it. I know this is for Windows 95/98, but Windows XP does have compatibility options. Unfortunately, they don't work. The sound is scratchy, the movies don't play right, the game crashes inconsistently.

If you have Windows XP, chances are this game will not work on your computer. It was a great game, but unless you have an ancient PIII 400 MHz, I think you're out of luck.

Warning!!! Do Not Buy This Buggy/Crashing Stupid Game

If a point and click slide show that crashes your computer every 5 mins is your definition of fun then this game is for you. Also Riven does not appear to run on XP at all. Waste of money, time and software. Eating chalk is more fun than this

Illogical

This game is stupid. All of the puzzle answers are illogical. Most games are thinking but this game is just random guessing until you get it right. Also, half of the game is just walking around an island. Hardly any gameplay, just walking around. Just looking at the sights and occasionally doing a stupid puzzle. The whole thing is like a slide show that sometimes stops to let you solve puzzles made in 5 minutes. If you want to do something which requires thinking, play some good games like Gabriel Knight, The Longest Journey or Tex Murphy. Or get away from the radiation and read a book.

This is an interactive slide-show not a game. There are much better adventure/puzzle games available such as The Longest Journey and Grim Fandango. Enough said.

I could not stand the limited action and slow graphics of Myst. It reminds me of my brothers I.Q. You should learn from the real gamesb such as: Pac Man and my all time favorite pong. I hope you come out with a game that I can make a profit from in the near feture

Don't Bother

I bought Myst Masterpiece because I was looking for something kinder, gentler and nonviolent. What a disappointment! The slide-show format is totally unacceptable given the power of the last three generations of computers. Navigation is irritating when the game sometimes turns 90 degrees, and sometimes 180 degrees per mouse click. 5 and 6 years ago games were capable of scrolling movement and smooth 360 degree rotation! Perhaps worst of all is the recurrent need to memorize and input sound patterns. The points where the sounds occur and where they need to be repeated are widely separated. I made it to the second "world" and I'm NOT going any further. I regret this purchase.

Frozen Myst

2 Rating: 2, Useful: 2 / 3

I recently purchased Myst Masterpiece as part of the Myst Trilogy. I'm a relative newcomer to adventure gaming, and the many favorable customer reviews I'd read really piqued my interest. I figured it was about time I bought the games considered to be such adventure classics.

I'm sure Myst Masterpiece will be an enjoyable game if I can ever get it to stop freezing my entire system. Everything locks up with alarming frequency, leaving me no other option than to turn my computer off and back on.

Meanwhile, if I haven't done recent "save," many of my game accomplishments become freeze casualties. This necessitates my starting over from the point at which I last saved the game.

I've done everything I can think of to correct this problem, including many uninstall/reinstalls. Nothing I've tried has helped.

Unfortunately, I haven't succeeded in getting help with this issue from Ubi Soft. I've spent a lot of time exploring their online Support Center, and I have yet to see the freezing problem mentioned anywhere.

I'd been hoping that the revamping of Myst into Myst Masterpiece would preclude the existence of major glitches, but I guess it hasn't. So...although the jury is still out on my opinion of the game as a whole, I give its performance two out of five stars.

I'm looking forward to actually being able to play the game with a degree of continuity someday.

How could anyone like this?

This game is not very good. It is hardly fun at all. You shouldn't buy this. I know that it is so popular but I don't understand why. It is alright. It's not stupid. I was going to give it 1 star but it's alright. No where near 3 though.
