Disappointing!

I played this game after playing Max Payne, and Soldier of Fortune was nowhere near in action and storyline. Half-Life and Unreal 1 are much better than this game as well.
Cons:
* You only have a few saves available, and they get reduced as you increase the challenge level. It [stinks] to have to go back to the very beginning of the level and do it all over.
* You just move forward killing everybody who jumps in front of you. I'm personally tired of that idea in games. There is no looking for buttons and clues, turning things on and off, and that sort of things.
* You have many weapons, but you rally need two of them to get the job done.

Pros:
* Each mission takes place in a different part of the world, and that is very cool because the environment varies greatly.

I do not recommend you buying this game, but if you want to buy it, then buy it for a low price.

Good for Gore

Good:

- More realistic damage model;
- Addtional player's actions (such as "look around the corner");
- GORE!
- Some interesting dymanic missions, untilizing the above elements.

Bad:

- Not that existing overall;
- Most soundtracks are annoying at best.
- Some missions (especially in the later half of the game) are not well-ballanced, relying on shear firepower and number of enemies.
- The "spawn" system is by far not the best way to achieve the goal of making player carefull it his destructive actions. It can be really frustrating when suddenly enemy appears in a place where you know no one could possible be.
Good:
- More realistic damage model;
- Addtional player's actions (such as "look around the corner");
- GORE!
- Some interesting dymanic missions, untilizing the above elements.

Still more good than bad. If you have not played any "new generation" shooters yet - do buy this one.

Holy cow!! Intestines, intestines! Yes, this is a very very violent game. In fact, a lot of folks have dismissed this game as nothingness encapsulated in a lot of blood and gore. However, they're the ones missing all the fun.

Basically, this is a first person shooter with cool weapons, body-pin-pointed damage, and lots of levels. The multiplay is sheer joy, especially in the office levels that have lots of cubicles, corridors, and computers to destroy.

Nothing beats the pleasure of sniping at different parts of an enemy's body. Or how about the "lean" feature which lets you peer around a corner and tag an enemy. Good stuff.

Buy it, but not if you are of the faint of heart!

In all my years of computer illiteracy,this junker takes the cake! I really can't tell you how good the game play is because I couldn't even get it to run.It simply turned the screen grey and locked up the machine!I also attempted the labyrinth that was activision/raven tech "support".The list of possible problems is immense and the planets must be perfectly aligned to even attempt it.zero stars is being kind to this rocket science clunker.Incidentally,the manual ... too!

This game is truly frightening!

well, having just bought a new compaq presario 800MHz to replace my Dell Dimension 233Mhz i decided to take advantage of my opportunity for playing a high-preformance game (i.e. something with good 3D quality) So i chose SoF from the shelf at the local computer games store because they were sold out of half-life and i needed a game desperately! My first reaction is yes this was a good buy.. very real- smooth- great graphics etc.. however on the first level especially this game is quite disturbing. the first level is a dark subway- which i would imagine to have some awful smells- occupied by crazy terrorists who are shooting and whipping hostages as you walk through the level. the gore factor is crazy, especially at close quarters with the shotgun. Now I am a pretty typical gamer- R6, Rogue, Swat3 etc... but the gore did take some getting used to... i am on about the 5th level i think, taking place in Iran and by now i am less affected by the death sequences and more worried about how to beat the level, so by now the game is pretty much perfect. one downside to the game that i must adress is the Quake-Doom aspect to it (wreckless shooting, only after being hit by a couple thousand rounds u die) the game would be more frightening if you really had to worry about bad guys and getting shot and more was at risk etc...

Over all a great game-great graphics- gameplay- guns- explosions- oh yea and realistic death sequences

Excellent piece of gaming!

Makes Rainbow6 and Kingpin look like Romper Room. The ULTIMATE stress reliever! If you like in your face blood, guts, and gore, this is your game. The weapons are great too. Playing online is even better. There is only one drawback though. I saved the world and all I got was a little over $800,000.00. Pretty cheesy for saving the world in my opinion. Bottom line is, buy this game. IT ROCKS!

THE BEST FIRST PERSON SHOOTER EVER!!!!!!!!!!

This game is hands down the best game there ever was. There are thirty heart pounding missions with excellent Graphics and sound. There are awesome explosions and cut-in scenes, and the animations can't be beat. The graphics are run on a Quake 2 engine, But it has been HEAVILY modified. It is a must have game but its pretty gory. If you can't handle the gore Quake 2 then you can't handle this game.

Almost Half-Life ... but not quite

A very solid FPS. I very much enjoyed 90% of this game. Like Half-Life, it has a good story line and great weapons. This game also features some good weapons balance -- it only allows you to have a finite amount of weapons and the ammunition and health can be sparse (especially towards the end).

The Ups: Great models, story, weapons, and over all game play. This is the first single player game since Half-Life that I have played all the way through.

The Downs: The story breaks down towards the end and it gets just a little monotonous by the time you're done.

Overall: probably one of the better games that money can buy right now. Numerous games that have come out since do not measure up. It has a very nice feel, and is very polished. A good purchase you won't regret.

This is like the "Starship Troopers" of computer games.

This game is all right. Not great, just all right. It's basically the "Starship Troopers" of computer games, with lots of gore but little substance behind the endless showers of crimson. It's painfully obvious that the main selling point was supposed to be the gore, and that a good majority of the developers time was spent on making sure spilled intestines quiver at just the right speed, rather than designing smart enemies and interesting levels. The first level in the subway station is cool, as is the series of levels in the Sudan and Japan, but this does not make up for the sheer stupidity of the plot. While this game is fun to play for a little while, it is nothing compared to "Half-Life" or "Deus Ex." I would recommend that you download the demo or borrow a copy of this game before investing your hard-earned cash in a game that may very well dissapoint you.
