Give Me A Break, Please!

Alright, c'mon.

I have a fair system. 733Athlon, 256Megs of RAM, an NVidia GeForce 2 MX 400, and as a Computer Administrator, set up as well as WinME can be.

I'll be honest. The game itself is great. Fun to play...after the 10 minutes of loading to get into the game in the first place.

The game looks alright. Using it's own engine instead of opting for the QuakeIII like every other FPS (first person shooter) game in recent memory, it's a little blockier than I am used to seeing in games of late. Otherwise, it's nice, and the planet's design is well-done.

But when I started installing the game in the first place, my jaw dropped. To get the best results I opted for the full install...and was informed that it would require 1.3 GIGABYTES of my hard drive. Holy...!!! That's nuts.

Now, like I said, my computer is alright. It's a little more towards the run-of-the-mill, and is by no means a 'power machine' anymore. But the requirements for this game are just insane. Even with my GeForce 2 at 32 megs I have to run the game in Medium graphics quality or it's so jerky it's unplayable. That pretty much kills the chances for most people who don't upgrade their PC's every six months and don't have a beefy system. Good luck, that's all I can say.

All in all; great game, crazy system requirements. The PC gamemaker community is gonna have to get it through their heads that most people don't have 2GHz processors and 80HDD yet. Making games with system requirements like this isn't going to cut it.

BTW: the minimum system requirements are a joke. If that's all you have, don't bother. I ran this thing at it's weakest level; felt like I was playing a sloggy Doom.

Plus and Minus...

This was for me a much anticipated release, and after hearing descriptions of the Alien single player I was even more intrigued. In all honesty though I think if you are a true fan of Aliens vs. Predator(the original), you will not like this game.

The alien can no longer "sneak up" on anyone.. even in darkness. And in addition to that, the lights aren't even breakable. Not like it would do any good anyway. The Aliens silent superjump has been replaced with a loud pounce attack that alerts everyone to your presence. Headbites can be a challenge on civilians now as they bob up and down. You have to aim somewhere around where the torso meets the neck.

The Predator has also lost some of his edge.. he now starts with nothing but his wrist blades and a spear gun. Not even the shoulder cannon to start?! His vision conversions have been made to look more like the 80's movie.. well not quite that good. And the water now quickly knocks out your cloak, rather than make it flicker with electricity.

The Marine no longer has the image intensifier, but rather a shoulder light with limited range. It just stops on the ground at a certain distance. It is a true miracle that they can see those Aliens on the tall ceilings. Also the "new" Alien wall textures.. I think look worse than the first game by a long shot.

I must also mention to any graphics fans out there.. with my GeForce4 Ti 4600 and a 1Ghz CPU, this game should run flawlessly for how it looks. I can run Unreal 2003 with all settings outside of character detail at the highest, at 1280x1024 resolution, and it runs smooth. Yet AvP2 chops me up with half the effects settings down to medium. If you are a "hardcore" fan of the AvP series... by all means buy this. Otherwise, my advice is to buy the original.

Where to start on this masterpiece..... hmm... well, considering I'm not even half way through the game I'm already very impressed, to say the least.

If you enjoyed the first two Aliens films as much as I did then you're going to LOVE this game. I won't credit the films which followed Aliens because they were utter garbage, but trust me you will not be let down in the same way once you install this wonderful piece of software.

FOX Interactive have really taken advantage of both franchises here. You'll notice how spot-on the details of this game are, from the sound effects of that crazy pulse rifle to the A.I. creature behaviour of those lightening-fast leaping devilish xenomorphs.
Theres enough suspense and horror to constantly keep you on edge throughout the levels I have played so far and I'm looking forward to enjoying the rest of the game.

Although some of the graphics (i.e. the Marines) can not compete well against todays top of the range character models, its nothing you have to grit your teeth at.
If I had to fault the game on anything I would be a fussy b*gger and say the motion tracker pace is slightly slower then expected. It would also be nice to have your fellow marines stay with you on some levels, if not all.

You can probably tell I haven't played much of the Alien & Predator single player modes. I have however sampled them both though and the Alien levels look more playable. I'm sure the other reviews cover this in more detail.

And then theres Multiplayer which I can't wait to check out.

I've only read one review which totally slated this game, and I can only conclude that they are some kind of bitter, jealous Star-trek freak with a major grudge of some kind.

Stop Hesitating. Order this game NOW

I recently downloaded the demo for this game and I am blown away. The graphics are phenomenal and I love all the new sounds incorperated into the gameplay.
The remarkble similarity to the movies was awesome. They have changed alot though. The cameplay is the same but there is a plot this time around and It doen't get old as quickly. For those of you who were die-hard AvP 1 fans this game may be too different for your liking, but it rocks. I myself liked the first game but the one thing it missed was some form of a plot. When the full game comes out it should be breath taking!!

This game brings out evil in me, in a good way.

Honestly, I can't say when I've had more fun than when I pump one of those aliens full of armour piercing bullets. I find this type of gratuitous violence thoroughly stress relieving. I'm not a violent person, but who can resist buying a game where you actually get scared, playing the single player demo at night for the first time (without cheating to find out where the aliens are) was nerve racking. This game is an absoloute must, which is why I ordered it from america because it comes out a month earlier than in the UK :( I had to spend £10 extra, but it's worth it. Now, time for me to de-limb a few more marines...

In 1999 or any other year there was no scarier or more enjoyable game to play than Alien vs Pred. This one looks bettter, the gameplay has been enhanced and you get to play as one of 3 of this universe's most deadly species. Anotherwards this game couldn't be anything but a huge hit!

(By the way I'm 17. I just cliked on the under 13 link so I wouldn't have to sign up for another rectum sniffing internet account.)

This is just like the movie Aliens because this game is great. The marine missions are my favorite, because you get cool alien butt kicking weapons such as the brutal flamthrower, the lightning fast minigun, the powerful pulse rifle, the explosive sniper rifle, and my personal favorite, the messy but awsome assault shotgun. The shotgun can drop an alien like a bag of hammers from over 20 feet away. I also like the alien missions alot beacuse you are just a walking weapon, the only problem is the game lags when fighting multiple marines (i uninstalled some games to compensate for this). I just can't beat the marine mission Price of addmission even with cheats, but I'll get there. One tip for all you people who are losing badly at the marine missions is fire your pulse rifle in short bursts of about 5 per alien to save ammo, this is very effective does not reduce power. Any of you who were turned off by the demo, give this game a try, it is alot different.

Fun single and multi-player

Both the single-player and multi-player parts of this game are pretty good. The single player part of the game features 3 missions that introduce you to the different creatures you can play - alien, predator and space marine. Each of the campaign follows a story with nice scripted events.

And the multi-player part of the game features several different play modes and a nice server-finder that is integrated with the game - no need for gamespy.

The best part of this game is the erie setting. Gosh, when you are playing multi-player and you hear the agonized cry of your fellow space marines being slaughtered by aliens, you can't help feeling a little disturbed. This game is spooky. Definitely more scary than Half-Life and up there with the original Doom. Well worth the low price that Amazon is charging for it.

this is by far the coolest computer game ever...i gave it a four becuase it lacks not enough levels in the single player missons. The marine mission was my favorite, all those screams and hissing sounds, just makes my bones fall out of my body. The alien mission is kinda hard, which is a really good reason to rank this game a 4, becuase it is a challenge..and most people like challenges, and the fact that it had details like acid for blood and the weapons for the marines just like on the movies, oh and what striked me the most is the predators healing items.
