Don't ever buy this game, it's very boring. The animation ..., too. It just looks like you guy is skooting along the ground. And the balance is no good. Preds can cloak, and to make it worse, they can regenerate their energy any stinkin' time they want! The marines always die in one shot, only have one alternate vision mode (and it's no good). The Aliens can walk on walls, but every time they charge to kill someone, they get killed in a couple shots, and they are still usually about a mile away from their foe. Again, don't ... buy this game, as did my friend. IF you wanna good game, check out MechWarrior 4. It kicks ...

This game was obviously rushed out to market. It is very buggy and there are numerous problems. Unfortunately, Sierra is doing a very poor job of providing technical support to those of us foolish enough to have purchased the game. I have been trading e-mails for nearly 2 weeks and we're no where near having this game running. It is not a matter of having an underpowered PC since I easily exceed the hefty system requirements.

I, for one, will be seeking a refund for this game. Avoid this game until a gold release comes out. It will be cheaper a appropriately patched by that time (I hope!).

I got tired of this game after playing it for ten minutes. It was just awful. The whole environment was uninspired and forced. Don't buy it! I urge you: DO NOT BUY THIS GAME! IT IS NO FUN AT ALL!

Took me some time to figure out what a Hacker was was vs one's knife. I kept using a knife to get started. That part was not to clear nor explained well in the book that comes with. Now, that I know how to hack, and found a communicator with a code on it ( figure its for a door to open ), one has no way to put in a code to open anything. Now I'm in area outside as they lead you to a trap door, and only one door opens where I have no where to go, and cannot figure how to proceed. End of Game. Graphics are great. I played it on Win98 PC with the 128 minimum memory required. I was knocked out 4 times due to lack of resources. Hmm I went in with 85 % available. Guess I'm going to need another 128 K. It does come with Directx 8. That was a nice touch. Graphics are great. Haven't fought a thing cause I'm stuck. Trying to find a Strategy Guide to me. Hope Amazon has one as Best Buy didnt have any. I only gave it 2 Stars as I hate games where you just cant get started. Yuck. Maybe, if and when I get my XP back getting a new mother board as the Read Me file indicate that no reports have come in saying there was problems., I can load it there and try out the Lan option. Hmmm. we'll see.

This was for me a much anticipated release, and after hearing descriptions of the Alien single player I was even more intrigued. In all honesty though I think if you are a true fan of Aliens vs. Predator(the original), you will not like this game.

The alien can no longer "sneak up" on anyone.. even in darkness. And in addition to that, the lights aren't even breakable. Not like it would do any good anyway. The Aliens silent superjump has been replaced with a loud pounce attack that alerts everyone to your presence. Headbites can be a challenge on civilians now as they bob up and down. You have to aim somewhere around where the torso meets the neck.

The Predator has also lost some of his edge.. he now starts with nothing but his wrist blades and a spear gun. Not even the shoulder cannon to start?! His vision conversions have been made to look more like the 80's movie.. well not quite that good. And the water now quickly knocks out your cloak, rather than make it flicker with electricity.

The Marine no longer has the image intensifier, but rather a shoulder light with limited range. It just stops on the ground at a certain distance. It is a true miracle that they can see those Aliens on the tall ceilings. Also the "new" Alien wall textures.. I think look worse than the first game by a long shot.

I must also mention to any graphics fans out there.. with my GeForce4 Ti 4600 and a 1Ghz CPU, this game should run flawlessly for how it looks. I can run Unreal 2003 with all settings outside of character detail at the highest, at 1280x1024 resolution, and it runs smooth. Yet AvP2 chops me up with half the effects settings down to medium. If you are a "hardcore" fan of the AvP series... by all means buy this. Otherwise, my advice is to buy the original.

Overrated.

This game has a couple really innovative, interesting features, and big name franchise monsters. So it had a great start.
But the implementation was... horrendous.
Unlike most first person shooters, this game tends strongly towards one hit kills, both towards you and towards your opponents. This basically means that you will find yourself dying frequently until you can memorize exactly where the machine gunners, et cetera, are, and take them out quickly and more or less instantly before they retaliate. The gradual health decrease thing? Doesn't exist here. You make a mistake, you die. And very often, "mistakes" come in the form of not having luckily guessed which random passage is the one that leads behind the enemy, or having read a walkthrough first. In addition to bad design of combat, this is bad design of levels.
In fact, speaking of bad level design, I couldn't complete the very first Predator mission without consulting a walkthrough. How sad is that?
Climbing on walls and ceilings as an alien is incredibly fun... until you figure out how hard it is to pounce on something from a perspective that switches once you stop clinging to the wall or ceiling. Oh, and it's not so good for sneaking around, either, as humans in this game can look way up and don't seem to be fooled by shadows much.
In addition to all this, this FPS has the worst multiplayer I have ever seen. The Predator race is vastly more powerful than the other two, and the aliens in particular are practically cannon fodder against them, since the predators can see them clearly in one of their vision modes and blow them away long before they get close enough to pounce. Humans (real ones, unlike the AI ones) can't see quite as well, and have actual limited (as opposed to the effectively infinite Predator) ranged ammo, but no real advantages to make up for this. The aliens? They can, uh, climb walls and stuff. And it's really cool for you to do, really it is, but it's not gonna help you survive at all.
Even heat vision, wall-climbing, and a couple cool monsters aren't enough to keep this game from sucking very badly in the gameplay area compared to Half-Life or even Doom. If you want to experience the fun innovative features, try the demo. But don't buy the game, it's a waste of money.

You would think that this game rules...

i had high hopes for this game (theres so much potential)..but alas i feel dissappointed. first off, they release the game to soon. testing should have been thorough, but i guess that decided to push for more money. the producers of avp2 wanted to characters to be portrayed like that of the movie..right, wrong! aliens are slow as molasis, preds plasmacaster shouldnt home (even though im a pred fan), his "normal vision" is human binocular sight, no red tint like the movie, the aliens should have peripheral vision, and steam is steam in infared mode, it should have some tint of red and yellow. besides minor flaws, the major ones are lag issues in single player. im running 500mhz celeron, 128 ram, w/ a sufficient vid card and it lags sometimes when i have it at low res. and effects which leads to lag death. its saving grace is its multi play capablities, different classes and the alien cycle are cool. for a (...)u might wanna get somethign else till its price loweres

Hmm... ok

Demo:
After playing the Marine Demo, I see that Sierra has tried to follow Fox Interactive's initiative with a sequel to the game. The alien, the predator, and the marine are all there, with MORE. But when they added more they also took away. In AvP, when you were one of the species, the other species looked like they were made of similar graphics. In sierra's version, the marine was in full detail, complete with hacker's tool and shoulder lamp (which I like), but the aliens were weird little moving things and not as good as the original AvP, where the Alien looked like it was out of the movie. This game is from the creators of half-life and all those, so go figure.

Update:
Full Game:

But, it is a fun game, and long game-play due viewing the different storylines of 3 different playable species.

The Predator: most fun of the 3 species to play, plenty of weapons, can jump really high (just like the movie, this was missing in Fox's version). Definitely gooood fun getting trophies, etc.

Alien: very fast gameplay, and a lot of sneaking around and weird camera angles due to climbing all over the walls.

Marine: very fun due to the weapons and tools and trying to help your buddies.

The game saves as you go along, but you can also save whenever you want. (Kinda helps if there are facehuggers around).
A def. positive of this game is the facehuggers don't spook the hell out of you by disappearing then wrapping around the monitor screen like in Fox's version. In this one you'll see/hear it leap towards your face.

Definitely try this game out if you're an AvP fan. It stays true to the series/movies. Also try Primal Hunt for some more fun, it's a Mission Pack add-on that gives 3 more angles to the story. (Mercenary, Ancient Predator, Pred-Alien)

After reading so many good reviews of this game I went out and bought it. It is possible that my review is biased in that I only played the game for 2 days but frankly it just isn't enjoyable enough to make me want to play more. There are many interesting ideas included here and it had great potential which was lost in the actual game play and level design. The interface although fairly intuitive leaves somthing to be desired. The level design is fairly standard fare for FPS games, the usual save often instead of use your head ... I can not say if the multi-player was well done becouse I have already moved on to another title. People who are great fans of FPS games will probably enjoy it regardless of its flaws. But for the rest of us aside from a few graphic improvments and some cool licenceing concepts you might as well just blow the dust off your old copy of doom, and re install it ...
