Just a few things to add to the volume of praise for this game ...

I really love how easy it is to customize every aspect of the game, from gameplay to AI characteristics. The game has a built-in feature called "mutators" that can fundamentally alter the nature of any type of UT game. Bored of playing a regular CTF map? Try replacing all of the weapons with rocket launchers. Or for an adrenaline OD, I recommend low-gravity insta-gib (where everyone has a one-shot-kill gun w/unlimited ammo, and there are no items to pick up). Too cool!

Epic also made it super easy to create new add-ons to the game. The game includes a built-in map editor which is relatively easy to use, and which is supported by a huge online map-makers' community. You can already find thousands of new maps, new mutators, and full-fledged game rewrites for free on the 'net ... with more being churned out every day at a ludicrous rate.

I've been playing for months, and I can't imagine getting bored with the game any time soon. Join the legion of UT addicts today!

Great Game

This game is by far one of the best First person shooters out there. The graphics are good and the game has a variety of weapons, levels and game modes to play with. Multiplayer support is very good since you can set up your own little server and also play on HEAT, Mplayer and WON. The AI works out pretty well, the bots are easy until the skill level is set above Masterful. If you like to play first person shooters this is a game you won't regret buying.

Unreal Tourney versus Quake 3 Arena!

Just recently I downloaded demos for both UT and Q3 and I must say, they both kiss #ss. However, both games differ from each other. Graphics wise, its a close call, both offer bright colors and good dsi ratios. Q3 may beat UT by a margin graphics wise, but UT offers much easier interface. Plus, UT's environments and much more creative and are all individually more unique than Q3. The weapons in both games are awsome! Some in Q3 like that rocket launcher is worthless and somewhat annoying. The bots in Q3 are much more intelligent and faster than UT. Whether that is better or just more annoying is up to the player. I prefer bots that are competitive but not so that you end up pulling more hair out of you head than hitting your targets. Multiplayer for both games are great, but UT wins this one simply because it offers more features like Capture the Flag. Overall, UT may be the more fun game to play, but Q3 is just a game that is eye-widening everytime you play it. I would suggest buying them both to avoid going through a long and hard process of choosing which one to purchase.

Best First Person Shooter Available

This game amazes me every time I play this cause it actually is one of the few games that I own that really tests the power of my Voodoo3 3D card, and I love it! With 5 game plays (Last Man Standing, Capture the Flag, Assault, Domination, and Deathmatch) this title will always be in your cd-rom drive. The best thing about this game is the multiplayer capabilities and the fact that there are 1,000s of maps to download that will make Unreal Tournament fresh as the last time you played it. It also has mods that you can install onto your system which are very kool such as Strike Force, and many others that I will not go into. And if it doesn't sound like it can get much better there are also mods that add "skins" to your game (character skin) so you can look super fly for your murdering spree. If you like games like this deffinately check out Half-Life, Quake 3 and Deus Ex.

Anyone who has played (or is still playing) the Quake series will like this game. More difficult to control and figure out weaponry than Quake (more options though). Once you get the hang of it you will get addicted. Easy to connect to servers so you can get killed (if you are like me) by people you don't know. Plus with games like capture the flag you can put a totally different spin on the whole thing. Just get used to the controls before joining up with a server or it won't be much fun.

My point of view

I have to say, I have more fun playing Unreal tournament than any other game I've ever played on the net. First of all, the Internet code seems to work very well. I have a 56k modem and gameplay is very fluid.

The graphics are outstanding and the weapons are superb. The gameplay really can suck you into the Unreal cyber reality, especially if you play with headphones and an A3D sound card. The surround effects are excellent. I've always preferred turning off music and immersing myself in the ambience of a game. Unreal tournament is excellent in that regard.

I've played the Q3 arena demo, but the Unreal environment is more realistic in my opinion. They both work very well on the Net.

Words of advice, get a good 3D card like a Voodoo 3 or a TNT2 because the higher resolution gameplay is amazing!

Merry Christmas,

Steve

Awesome Game -- But buy the GOTY Edition

This has to be the best game ever. BUT WAIT! Before you buy please note that for just a couple extra bucks you can get Unreal Tournament Game of the Year Edition with tons of new stuff!! ChaosUT with tons of new weapons! A battle of skill in Rocket Arena! Terrorist attacks in Tactical Ops! I almost made the mistake of purchasing this one when there was an expansion available. Don't make that mistake. The new version is not an add-on and therefore you do not need this one.

It is perfection, for lack of a better word. In every way shape and form. And if nothing else, it is one of the few first player shooters (including System Shock and Half-life) that I have not been able to stop playing since I got it? So how was UT able to beat out the QUAKE III team (the pioneers of the DM shooter)? Let's compare!

First off, the graphics are beautiful, and just the fact that the color scheme is more than just buffalo chip brown makes a big difference. All of the light variants, wall textures, skins, explosions, and background textures make the revamed Unreal engine look like gods paintbrush. In my opinion, the quake engine is dying, no matter how much they revamp it, and in this case, way too goth and way too dark to see any of the other players.

Although each of the games maps have some problems, UT is the clear winner here, with over 50 maps that each have their own special touches and singular beauty (although some may look better than play better). Quake's maps are very linear and flat and don't have the same kind of spark that the UT maps have.

As for AI, Quake got it all wrong here. UT's AI is a beautiful sight, with enough tweaks on the main menu for you to match the exact difficulty with your skill level. Quake...not exactly. And furthermore, UT has an automatic skill changer, which allows the computer to adapt to your skill level. Awesome. oh and...I couldn't care less about the lack of varity in the UT skins, they still look awesome.

In addition, the AI of UT and Quake III are what really make the First player mode a treat in UT and a painful experince Quake III. First of all, the first player mode in Quake isn't worth my fingernail clipings. It is terribly lame and also the bots AI's are very sketchy and need a lot of teaking. In UT, first player is great for both newcomers for practice, and for pros who want to practice offline before they slug it out online. These guys act almost if not exaclty like human players! I love it!

Variety is no contest. UT has not only deathmatch, but assault, CTF, Domination, Last man standing, and a whole slew of new weapons. Quake has deathmatch and relativly old and barely revamped weapons.

In addition, interface, multiplayer, hardware reqs and overall replay value all go to UT. This game looks good with or without a video card and even on my 330 MHZ PII w/128 SDRAM it looked good (thanks to my Creative Anihilator Pro video card) Everything about this game has been made as slick as can be. Sure, ID may be the deathmatch king, but with games like Quake III, they better make way for GT and UT!

The Good News: Where quake has failed, GT has triumphed on every level. It doesn't get much better than this.

The Bad News: Get back to us when they make Quake IV

The Final Words: BFG? Ha...try takin on my Nuclear weapon launching Redeemer! Go get UT Now!

Nice game, but overrated

Well, I can't deny that this game is a good 3d action first person shooting game, but I didn't enjoyed this game so much. And even though there was a good variety of game features, none of them seemed interesting to me, and the graphics wasn't so cool compared to quake 3. Weapons; probably one of the best variety of weapons for this kinda game, but the sounds [were lacking]. And the lightning effects wasn't so impressive. Bots, cool AL, very impressive; better than Q3. Deathmatch, not so good. Assult and Domination wasn't so fun either. Team Deathmatch and Capture the flag were the best game features in my opinion. Anyways, I'm giving this game one star because this game is too overrated. Anyways, it's a good game; I just don't like this game so much, that's all.

Move over Quake3 Arena here is Unreal Tournament !

Look here it is in a nutshell quake was the standard but it got old .....unreal tourny breathes new life into this format of game . Intense maps, Powerful Weapons, And many variations of the deathmatch genre. A cool voice messaging Feature allows you to send canned voice commands to taunt your enemys or command teamates. The bots in single player have adjustable skill levels and are quite good for computer AI, and deathmatch code seems fairly good as well allowing for pretty reliable connections via internet. I've been a big quake ,doom multiplayer for many years and i am quite impressed with this game,it is a MUST buy for fans of the first person shooter....
