A fun game and a great storyline, too!

Well, I've gotta be truthful. The first time I saw a commercial for this game I thought, WHAT! Disney and Square Enix combining? No chance in hell'll I'll play it!

Well, one day my brother rented the game in high hopes of liking it. He didn't. So I decided, Whatever. I'll give it a shot. The minute the intro started playing, I was already engrossed. That day, I only got to play it for an hour or two because we had to take it back. The first thing I did afterward was make a Christmas list, including this.

The game is highly original with the fact that Disney and Square Enix joined together to make this game. It has a unique battle system, being both hack-and-slash and having a menu similar to most Final Fantasies. Unlike some Final Fantasy, this game keeps you on your toes in battle, forcing you to rely on your allies to heal you sometimes, which they do.

The storyline is great and has twists in their like some Final Fantasies. It starts off with a Final Fantasy based character (Sora, whom you play as) falling into the darkness of his dreams...or are they dreams? Hmmm...

Anyway, you determine his beginning stats depending on the weapon you choose and the weapon you sacrifice. Also, you choose how fast he levels up throughout the game when you answer some questions. When he wakes up, you find out that his friends Kairi and Riku are working on the raft they are going to use to travel to different worlds.

Meanwhile, Donald Duck goes to the throne room one morning to only find King Mickey missing. His dog Pluto brings Donald a letter with the King's signature. Donald reads it and rushes out to find Goofy. Donald wants to keep this a secret from the Queen, but Minnie and Daisy overhear this and Donald is forced to show them the letter. It states that Mickey is leaving to see why the stars are going out and charges Donald and Goofy to find someone with the "Key"-the "Key" to our survival.

Back on Destiny Islands, it is nighttime after Sora, Riku, and Kairi have finished the raft. A dark storm comes up and Sora rushes over to the island to find Riku's and Kairi's boats are already there. Malevolent dark creatures appear and try to kill him. Eventually, he finds Riku staring up at the black hole that has appeared. Riku disappears into the darkness and Sora emerges from it with a mysterious key in his hand. With this key he is able to destroy the shadows. He finds Kairi in the secret spot looking at a mysterious door. It opens wide and darkness floods out. Kairi disappears and Sora is blown away.

On Traverse Town Donald and Goofy look up to see a star going out. At the same time, Sora appears in an alley just a couple hundred feet from them. Eventually, they bump into each other literally and decide to team up to find their missing friends and fight off the pending darkness.

It is nothing short of pure fun and action. The one problem I had with this game were some of the graphics. The way someone's hand goes through something and the fighting scenes. However, all in all, it is a superb game nonetheless, and I highly recommend it to anyone.

Absolutely amazing

First of all, let me point out I'm 13 now and I first played KH when I was about 11.

One word for this game: amazing. Just amazing. The storyline is great, graphics are beautiful, and it is just a Disney fan's dream game. I play this game all the time, and have beaten it about 20 times because I just can't get enough of it. Buy this game, you won't be disappointed.

Meant To Be Played

I love this game! When the game was about to come out in stores, I kept watching its commericial in Disney Channel. I thought that the commericals were impressive, but playing the game was even better.

I was always a Disney fan but I never had played a Final Fantasy game in my life. I never thought I would see a 3-D Goofy and Donald, but Kingdom Hearts did it.

Kingdom Hearts is about 3 good friends named Sora, Kiari, and Riku. These three friends live together on the Destiny Islands. For a while, the friends were wondering why they lived on the Destiny Islands and not someplace else. The friends were planning to go on a journey to find a new world, but that night there Island was taken over by the evil creatures called the Heartless. They were seperated from each other and that's how the adventure begins.

You play as Sora, a brave boy looking for his friends.

There are 10 Disney Worlds that you visit throught the game, and their objectives. They are:

Wonderland- Stop Alice from being accussed of trying to steal the Queen of Hearts Heart.

Deep Jungle- Team up with Tarzan to stop Clayton from controling the Heartless and poaching the Gorillias,

Olyimpic Colissim- Fight Heartless to stop Hades from defeating Sora, Goofy, and Donald.

Agrabah-Stop Jafar from defeating Sora.

Monstro-Save Ponnicco and Geppetto from the whale Monstro.

Atlantica-Team up with Ariel to stop Ursla from taking over Atlantica.

Halloween Town- team up with jake the Pumpkin King to stop Oggie Boggie from controling the heartless.

Neverland-Fly with Peter Pan to save Wendy from Captin hook.

Hundred Acre Wood- Get Pooh Bear and his friends back together.

Then there are 4 not Disney Worlds, they are:

Destiny Islands
Traverse Town
End of the World
Hollow Bastion

i love this game and any RPG,Disney,or Final Fantasy fan would love this game!

Best Game Ever

I'm not a serious serious gamer but I loved this game. I'm a sucker for storyplots AND action. Got to have both. And the storyline actually makes sense, compared to some other RP games.

Don't need to go into the technicals and all that because I just want to say this game is really unbelievable. It takes you back to the characters that have been around for years and make them different yet still familiar. There were some bosses I defeated in one try, and others it took me days. I ended up finishing the game in a month or so because it was just so addictive.

Kingdom Hearts is not only for Disney lovers or for Final Fantasy fans, it's for a true RP fan.

One of the best games I've played in awhile

This game is simply incredible, to start off, the voice cast is exceptional for a video game. Many big names make up the voice crew starting with the main protagonist, a boy named Sora, who is voiced masterfully by Haley Osment. Aeris from FF7 is voiced by Mandy Moore and Sephiroth is voiced by Lance Bass. The Disney Characters are almost all voiced by their commonly known actors, (James Wood and Jodi Benson, etc.)

Many people are skeptical of buying this game because of their natural prejudice against anything made by Disney, if you are one of these people and look at this like looking through a window painted black then you will miss out on one hell of a game!

The gameplay, based around an action RPG combat system where everything occurs in real time, is unlike any other. It's easy to get into but difficult to master, you will have to be able to flip through your item inventory while fighting off baddies and trying to stay alive. The battles vary from casting magic spells on foes from a distance or going toe to toe with the enemy in a clash of swords. Along your way you will encounter Goofy and Donald Duck who will join up with you on your quest, you probably think that sounds wussy but you'll be glad to have them along. Goofy is more of a fighter/defensive character while Donald is more of a caster/offensive character. They are both controlled by computer AI that you can adjust to fit your strategic needs.

The storyline is very unique being that it combines Final Fantasy characters colliding with Disney. It has the usual run off the mill villainry of the evil Disney characters trying to accomplish their wicked schemes in their corresponding worlds. This may sound stereotypical but it is mostly done in an interesting more intriguing way than you would expect. On top of Disney's baddies are Final Fantasy characters that you'll end up fighting, early on you'll have a few mock duels with Tidus, Wakka, and you'll even end up crossing blades with Squall!

I'm still playing through the early stages of the game but from what I've seen so far this will be a title to be remembered.

Camera works against you!

I really wanted to like this game. And after reading most of the favorable reviews here, I thought why not? I like Disney... I like RPG's (Role Playing Games)...so I'll give it a try.

The graphics are nice with little difference between game play and cut scenes and the storyline seems really involved. However, the problem I had was with the game's camera.

I know this is a problem with most 3-D/free roaming games and it's no exception here. The camera wants to constantly shift to give you a better view of the character you're playing, which is great if you're watching a movie, but not so good if you're playing a game. And yes, you can control the camera by pressing the R2 and L2 buttons at the same time, which repositions the camera behind the character, but as soon as you move, the camera swings again, giving you a different perspective.

With all the swinging involved, I got motion sickness after about an hour of game play. I know that game designers want to wow us with all of the camera angles etc., and how they can blur the lines between watching a movie and playing a game, but watching the character you're controlling run towards the camera, when you really need to see where you're going, is not helpful.

Another thing I don't like is that the camera is really closeup and you can't really see the environment clearly unless you switch to the first person/character view, which allows you to see through the character's eyes, but that slows down game play.

If I had known about the camera problems I would have passed on this game. I know that most people aren't bothered by this, but for me, I can't get into the game with the camera going to and fro all the time, making me nauseous.

Great introduction to RPGS

I love this video game!! You will love it too!

Sora is a 14 year old living on a island, with his friends Riku and Kairi. They have made a plan to bulid a raft and sail of to find other worlds. One cruel night, a storm rages. Sora, afraid that the raft will be broken, risks his life to save the raft. Upon running to save it cretures start appearing. Sora runs and finds his friend Riku. Riku says he is not afraid of the darkness and he is engulfed in darkness. Soon after that Sora is left with a weapon of mass power....the KEYBLADE. A huge dark monster attacks Sora but he fights back. Sora is transported to a world....no wait a....town? Will Sora find his friends? What were those cretures?? And... why are Donald and Goofy searching for a man?? * Akward silence * Don't worry, this game is rated E for everyone. : )

The game is awesome!! When you deafet the game, and you start a new one, the first couple of hours are very boring. Mostly made boring with cutscenes you cannot escape. A bonus ending is acuired when you defeat all the cups in the Hercuales world, find all the Ansem's report, and find all the 99 dalmations. It gives a look at KH2 comeing out in March next year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : ) So hurry up and get this game before kh2!! Even though Disney is in this and gives of signales of a kid game, it is very hard and it took me 3 years to win!

Some bad things about the game are charecters, only 4 charecters were orignal. This how ever is cleared up in kh2. Music is great. Some songs make you cry, some are very eerie and haunting.

A note: After this game there is KINGDOM HEARTS CHAIN OF MEMORIES FOR GAME BOY ADVANCE. I bought a gba just so I could play this. this is after kh1 and ends right before kh2. If oyu do not have a GBA, go online and you can read the script. Just go on Gamestop.

Good bye!! Please play this game you will not be sorry!!!

Someone go get a bucket, cause I'm gonna PUKE!!

First of all,I didn't even want to rent this game cause I thought it looked stupid and insulted everything that was great about final fantasy.I SHOULD have listened to my first instincts, but instead I gave into to so many whining squaresoft
"fans" who said that this really is a great game, you just have to get past the fact that there's disney.HA! I'd like to know how that is possible when everywhere you turn, disney is screamed in your face;the shield has a mickey mouse emblem on it,the sword has a mickey mouse emblem on it,everything has a mickey mouse emblem on it!

What really bothered me the most about this game was all the subliminal messages in it.For example one of the final fantasy characters in the final fantasy world says"Our world is just one tiny peice that is part of something much greater!"OH!I see,so final fantasy is just something insignificant and what's sooo much greater is disney!

This also leads me to ask that if each individual disney story/movie had it's own world, then why couldn't they have done the same for each individual installment of final fantasy?Every final fantasy fan knows that the diffrent stories in the series where always on an epic level,so why does disney treat the final fantasy anthology so unimportantly?By just mixing all the final fantasy characters from diffrent games into one world to call it's own was a slap in squaresoft's face. And just look how they depicted poor cid from ff7!They gave him blonde hair(he's older and has grey hair)plus they got rid of his cigarette and put a twig in his mouth....grrrr!

Of course I suppose disney was the right partner to choose for this project since squaresoft seems only to want to make interactive movies instead of games.By this,I mean the same problem with kingdom hearts was what I saw in final fantasy X; play a little bit then watch a cinema(which you can't skip over either),play a little bit more then watch another cinema! This replays itself over and over and gets extremely annoying.Graphics
seem to be more important than gameplay.

Lastly kingdom hearts is not a true rpg to which it passes itself
over as on the box.It isn't a true rpg in the sense that there is
no turn based battle system;it's an action rpg with free moving enemies and heroes. This tied in with the locking system makes it much more like zelda:ocarina of time than any of the final fantasy series. Why squaresoft chose to do this is a mystery to me
since the game is supposed to tie in with final fantasy. My only guess is that it was probabaly disney's idea, since they see fit to march right in and change every aspect about anything with THIS world! The saying for kingdom hearts is "You'll never know who you'll run into next."I think the saying for disney should be
"You never know what we'll take over next!"

I'd rather eat a bucket full of broken glass than play this disney comercial!!

The Best Game

Kingdom Hearts is the best game! I got a perfect file on it in expert mode. It is the most fun game you can get, with FFX in second.
