Kngdom Hearts Finatic!

I thought the first game was awesome, the best game I would ever play. Until the second one came out. Unlike many poeple, I actually enjoyed being Roxas in the begining. And getting the 800 munny, well, you didn't actually have to get 800. I only got about 260 and it didn't effect the game. Tough it was a bit long, it was still really hard. I felt kinda bad for Roxas though when it was time for Sora to wake up. But it was great to be Sora agian.

Kingdom Hearts II is a great game and the combat style is much improved. The air combos got a BIG increase which is cool unless your in Drive and you attak any enemy in the air and after their dead your're still in the air. That just wastes Drive points. Also, the clothes are a huge improvement/ Especially the shoes. Those are awesome!

The new enemies are also cool. The Nobodies who are controlled by Orginization XIII are harder than the Heartless which is good. And the Orginization are cool too (this is begining to feel like a commercial so I'm gonna stop). This game is a must and was worth the wait.

You'd have to be crazy to not love this game!

This is a truly amazing game. The graphics are awesome, the plot is well thought out, and it's fun. My favorite characters are Roxas, Axel, and Sora. I HATE Kairi. She ruined the first game, and now she's back to ruin this one, the only difference is that she has not succeded this time.
PROS:
*Sora and Kairi actually look and sound their age (unlike in the first game when I thought that they were 9 or 10 years old)
*The battle system is improved a lot.
*The Gummi Ship mini-games are more fun
*There are more characters
I could go on and on with pros.
CONS:
*There is only one major con I have, and that's Demyx. The first fight with him (in the Hercules level) was as easy as pie. Your second fight (in Hollow Bastion) is crazy and hard. How is it that when you fought Axel (who shoots gigantic blasts of fire at you), at Level 5 in the beginning of the game was stupidly easy, but now when you are fighting Demyx (who shoots jets of water at you) when you are at Level 29 is like trying to stand in front of a school bus going 70 miles an hour and not brake every bone in your body? All the other boss fights in the game are boringly easy, so you you will be very unprepared for the terror and frustration. I heard that the ending is awesome, but I don't think I will ever beat Demyx to see it.
Other than that this game is awesome! If you hate it and you have only read reviews about it or played it in the store, sit down and play it and you will be suprised.

One of the best games ever

I had been waiting for this game a long time. It turned out that the wait was worth it. For example the combat is less repetative. plus with new fetures like Drive mode and Limits. Also there is the option to change your team at any time. Plus, for those of you who remeber the brutaly boring gummi ships in the first game, the gummi ships are better. There is still a great story line. There are a few bad things about this game like it being really easy and the fact a few levels could have been left out because they were boring (Little Mermaid). The garfics are about ten times better. Buy this game. Its worth it.

Uber cool...

Okay, I have to admit. I'm one of those people who thought Kingdom Hearts looked stupid. Yes, you can boo and hiss now, but let it be known that I pulled a complete 180 after playing this game for 15 minutes. Here's why...

Graphics: 8/10
Yeah, they're good, but honestly, I've seen better, although the cutscenes are amazingly done! I got a little tired during the dialogue scenes when it would switch from "wonderfully expressive" Sora to "overwhelmingly robotic" Sora. At least they made these times fewer than in the first game. Also, they fixed the camera problem!!! YAY!!!

Storyline: 9.9/10
Since nothing is perfect, I'm giving this the closet thing to that. Of all the games I've played, only the MYST series beats Kingdom Hearts! This is what drew me in in the first place. I actually played the second one first, and even though I'd never played the first game, I was putting pieces together here and there and I was really enjoying being slightly confused! This game requires me to pay attention, and doesn't follow the usual "some-crazy-godzilla-on-drugs-wanted-to-control-the-world".

Characters: 9/10
All of the characters are wonderfully done, from their personalities, to their outer appearance! You almost feel like you've known the characters for their entire lives. Plus, this might sound weird, but I love the romance between Sora and Kairi. It adds something extra to the game...

Worlds: 7/10
Eh, they're not as in-depth as I might like, but they're pretty cool. Each world looks and feels like it does in the movie it depicts, so it's pretty cool to feel like you're walking in the movie...

Gameplay: 9.5/10
At first, I was like, "What in the world?! Who designed this thing?!" Believe me, it's much different than any game I've ever played. But, it's probably the best I've ever experienced. What I love about this game is the Reaction Commands and Drive Mode.
The Reaction Commands are cool because if you can do a special move or attack in battle, it will flash on-screen, and if you press the button at that time, you'll a cool move/attack! Also, depending on if you're doing a boss battle or not, you can use the Reaction Commands to do interactive cutscenes! Very cool...
Drive Mode is also cool because it basically transforms Sora into a fighting machine. Two Keyblades (if you use Valor), more powerful moves and a cool new outfit for 30-60 seconds!!! Pretty sweet and unlike anything I've ever seen...
On the level of "explorability", it's okay...but not great. Want to explore a lot? Try Spyro... For replayability, this games great! There's different levels of difficulty, and there's a lot more to learn and find, I can guarantee you!
Please, though, believe me when I say that the learning curve on this game is very VERY steep. For your own sanity, read the manual THOUROUGHLY and practice the controls apart from normal play. Trust me, it helps tremendously.

So, verdict? Buy this game, for sure. But I would suggest playing the first game FIRST. It's not THAT important, but it certainly helps.

Overall Rating: 9.5/10

this game definitly is the best of the 3 games. if u dont understand the game then u should probably get KH:COM (kingdom hearts:chain of memories.) the strategy guide is really helpful so get it. the 1 bad thing is that the ending leaves u haging..its really annoying b cuz it will b a while b 4 the 3 KH comes out. at the end the graphics turn amazing...like in FFX. the game is much easier 2 beat. if u cant beat a boss then wait a little while and level up it will b easier. its a very good game...BUY IT!!!!!!!!!

Awesome game... no other way to put it.

Kingdom Hearts II is the sequel to the action role-playing game featuring a host of familiar characters from movies and video games alike. Disney characters Sora, Donald Duck, and Goofy are searching for their missing king, and it is up to you to help find him. The game also features characters such as Captain Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean and characters from the Final Fantasy series of games. Voice actors Haley Joel Osment and James Woods join the cast, and the veteran designers of the original Kingdom Hearts have returned to work on the sequel.

If I had a nickel for every time someone said "Sora, Donald, Goofy" in this game...

Kingdom Hearts II shares some striking similarities with another sequel of a great PlayStation 2 game, Xenosaga II. Both feature a confusing plot and a whole bunch of pointless mini-games.

Fortunately, unlike Xenosaga II, Kingdom Hearts II is actually worth playing — it just doesn't do the four-year wait or its predecessor enough justice.

If you never bothered to pick up Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories (on the GBA), you're definitely going to be confused right out of the gate playing Kingdom Hearts II.

Chain of Memories functions as sort of a "Kingdom Hearts 1.5" that is essential to bridge the gap between both games. So even if you can't bring yourself to play it, you'll find that doing a little research on the plot beforehand will greatly decrease the number of times you scratch your head in confusion during Kingdom Hearts II.

That isn't to say the story or character elements in Kingdom Hearts II aren't great. Without giving anything away, I will say that even with a full understanding of what's going on, you'll still likely feel less than satisfied with the plot of the game.

Though a Kingdom Hearts sequel was apparently in the works since the original, there just isn't enough to really capture the sense of grandeur of an epic adventure. What revelations there are feel a bit hollow. This is one area of this game that music really hurts the overall experience, since the score of the original was so good at creating an aural theme for the whole adventure (I still find myself humming those tunes at odd moments).

As for game play elements, not a lot has changed in the intervening four years. For most of the game you'll still be playing as Sora, who controls much like he did in the last game (albeit with a better camera). Interestingly, magic seems even less useful now than it did before — at least in the original you had to use a certain element to defeat a certain boss — now you could make it through the entire game hitting the X button alone.

I personally find the correlation between mashing the X button repeatedly and the deft ballad of destruction Sora weaves onscreen to be pretty hilarious. It feels like I should have to work a bit harder to totally destroy my foes.

One new addition is the drive gauge, which lets you fuse with Donald, Goofy, or both to acquire powerful new abilities for a short time. These feel terribly overpowering near the end of the game, where the right abilities allow you to stay perpetually in the most powerful form.

Even if you couldn't stay fused together, the trusty standby of the X button almost negates the drive gauge. Or summoning anything. Or using magic. It feels like they should take a cue from other action-RPGs (Kingdom Hearts II is an action-RPG after all) and make certain attacks vital to defeating certain enemies. That, at least, would add some strategy into the mix.

The graphics aren't the best on the system, but they're certainly good — and I'd say they're even better considering the remarkable variety of worlds you visit. That's not to say the game isn't worth playing.

The voice acting is top notch as usual, except for Aerith, who sounds like she's half-asleep — or Cloud, who sounds Southern. I mean, of all the accents to give such a rugged anti-hero...

Be warned, though, that the Disney elements overwhelm this game, and though there is satisfaction to be found for Final Fantasy fans, I was disappointed by the quality of what Final Fantasy cameos there were.

When you find the interaction between Cloud and Sephiroth more cringe-worthy than performing a musical with Ariel from The Little Mermaid, you know something must be wrong.

All and all, Kingdom Hearts II is a bit of a letdown. But, if you're meticulous about completing each and every tedious mini-game, you'll be treated to an intriguing look at what the future of the series may hold.

Best dang game in year 2006.

What The Heart Desires

Kingdom Hearts II opens roughly one year after the events of the first game. After destroying a team of some of Disney's greatest villains (including Maleficent, Chernaborg, Captain Hook, Ursula) as well as the man pulling all the strings of the villainous Heartless, a man known as Ansem, Sora (Haley Joel Osment), Donald Duck (Tony Anselmo), and Goofy (Bill Farmer) wandered into Castle Oblivion. It was there that the events of Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories took place. The game, which was on the Game Boy Advance, introduced us to DiZ, Namine, and Organization XIII. Also, Sora had some of his memories stripped, and anyone he forgot about in turn forgot about him. Now, Kairi(Hayden Panettiere), one of his best friends, doesn't remember him. Meanwhile, King Mickey Mouse (Wayne Allwine) and Sora's other friend Riku (David Gallagher) have escaped from the dark realm that they were sealed in at the end of the first game.
The Organization serves as the big bad in KHII (similar to what the Disney Villains were seen as in the first game). They are comprised of 13 creatures known as Nobodies, which serve as the other main enemy besides Heartless in this game. Whenever a person with a strong heart, whether they are good or bad, becomes a Heartless, their body and soul are left behind, and create a Nobody. The strongest of the strong hearts lead to the Organization members.
After a long tutorial period featuring a new character known as Roxas (Jesse McCartney), we finally see what Sora, Donald, and Goofy are up to (I'll admit that I was a little upset at first when I was going through the very long intro period, but then I remembered that KHI did the same thing, with your time on the Destiny Islands serving a similar purpose). Sora and his friends wake up with their memories restored in a strange place known as Twilight Town, which is where Roxas lived. Even though you encounter Roxas' three friends, and even his enemies (including FFVIII character Seifer Almasy [Will Friedle]), none of them know Roxas. After leaving Twilight Town, the gang meets up with Yen Sid(Corey Burton), the sorceror from Fantasia, and he updates the trio on the goings-on in the worlds. He also gives Sora some new clothes, which allow for the game's drive feature (which I will explain later). The trio also runs into all-purpose Disney villain Pete (Jim Cummings), who they learn was working for Maleficent (Susan Blakeslee).
From there, they are able to start visiting worlds again, starting with Hollow Bastion, the castle of KHI villain Ansem. Now reunited with Squall/Leon (now voiced by Doug Erholtz), Yuffie (now voiced by Mae Whitman), and others, they are ready to move on to helping other worlds. While some worlds are repeats from the first game, such as Agrabah and Halloweentown, new worlds such as China (from Mulan), Beast's Castle, and Port Royal (from Pirates of the Carribean) become available. Unfortunately, not all of the worlds are as fun as they were in the first game. A few of them seem like [World]: The Game, especially the Port Royal world. It very much plays out the plot of the film, only with Sora, Donald, and Goofy inserted in. It isn't so bad, but the worlds in the first game seemed, for the most part, like their purposes fit into the game's overall plot. Still, the plot of the Coliseum (another repeat world) was pretty cool, especially since it involved FFX character Auron (Matt McKenzie).
Still, the best parts of the game tended to take place in the original worlds, especially Hollow Bastion. One of my favorite parts was around the halfway point (in this game, nearly every world must be visited twice; once before and once after this grand midpoint event); it begins with a massive cutscene of an army of Heartless storming Hollow Bastion, and later a scene involving Mickey Mouse in such a way that I never thought was possible. Speaking of Mickey, he is actually playable in this game, and he is awesome! He is strong, fast, agile, and has a ton of HP. However, the circumstances under which he can be played are very particular.
The story of the game is very good. One does need to overlook a few things, such as a fact regarding the Ansem you fought in the first game, and the fact that a few bosses (mostly Disney villains) get ressurected, and, for the most part, must be fought again (strangely, Maleficent never fights you, but I bet that they're saving her next fight for the next game). Organization XIII makes worthy adversaries (some of them seem nearly impossible), and their story is interesting to follow. Also, the group that accompanies you in the World That Never Was is pretty sweet (basically, Mickey, Kairi, and one other person join you). The game also has many great new features, most notably the Drive feature. Driving allows you to combine with your allies and become exponentially more powerful, and it usually allows you to weild dual Keyblades. Also, KHII offers the best reason I've ever seen for why, at the beginning of the game, you start off as weak as you were at the beginning of the first game. Basically, due to the events of KH:CoM, you have forgotten all of your abilities (I'll buy that). The one place that doesn't make sense regarding things not remembered is Atlantica; there is no explanation for Ursula's resurrection, and no one seems to remember her, not Ariel (Jodi Benson), nor your party, who remember all of the other bosses they fought.
There are a few problems. The game is a little over simplified; sometimes, you'll have "missions", but all of your objectives are spelled out for you. One complaint I've heard is that there is little use for magic in the game, but I attribute that to the camera controls. In this game, you use the right analog stick to move the camera (as opposed to the R2 and L2 buttons in the first game). This makes the camera easier to move, but it means that you can't use the right stick to choose things on the menu while fighting (which was the method I used in KHI as opposed to the D-Pad). You are forced to use the D-Pad, which must be manipulated with the same hand as the left stick, which is used to move the character. Since I preferred to be always moving in battle, I rarely used magic that wasn't on my shortcut list (one of which was Cure).
Still, despite its few shortcomings, Kingdom Hearts II is, overall, a great game. The story is good, the effects are great (I love so many of the cutscenes), and is fun to play. If you played Kingdom Hearts, you owe it to yourself to play the sequel. Oh, and if you haven't played KHI, play it before you play this, otherwise you will be totally lost (it's possible to play this without having played Chain of Memories, but there will be some things that won't be as meaningful to you; I didn't play it, so my roommate who did had to explain some stuff to me).

Best RPG ever! Even better then Final Fantasy!
