Three years of built up expectation, and it still delivers.

I'm sorry to say, that originally, I was among those who thought Kingdom Hearts was just another disney cash-in game with a twist.

Then I played it. It became an obsession for me. There has always been something about Kingdom Hearts that truely invests you in the character of Sora and those he crosses paths with. With the end of the first game, all I could think about was, what was going to happen. I must have played through the ending at least ten times, and watched the secret "Deep Dive" scene many more times.

Now that Kingdom Hearts 2 is finally here, and after playing all the way through it in a week, the game lives up to nearly every expectation I had and then some. If the first game can change you life, then playing though the second(and actually paying attention to the bigger story, which there is a lot more of in KHII than KHI) will touch you in a way akin to a religious experience.

We may never know just what it is about Kingdom Hearts (and especially its sequel) that so powerfully pulls a person in and makes them truely, deeply care about the story and its characters.
Well, I could go on and on and on about how amazing Kingdom Hearts 2 is, but I will resist and give you a point by point breakdown.

Gameplay 9/10 - Vastly improved. Maybe its just because Sora has grown up a bit and isn't tripping over his own feet anymore, but his movement is infinately smoother. The reaction commands add a new dimesion to battles, and are often a big part of the sometimes-cinematic boss battles.
The mechanics of the game have improved too. This is seriously evident in the fight with Cerberus. The beast moves the way he should, instead of like a drunk elephant the way he did in the first game. Nothing EVER clips (solid objects or characters passing through one another), and I guess we have to chalk that up to all the years of playstation development experience that simply didn't exist when the first game was made. That experience really shows in the polish of the game.

Graphics - 9/10 While not as spectacular as some games, every visual in Kingdom Hearts 2 is a true work of art. The graphics have been improved slightly over Kingdom Hearts one, which at the time, if you'll remember, was one of the best looking games in existance.
Framerates stay solid in any situation, through cinematic crossfades and other effects, to fighting thousands (yes, literally thousands) of heartless at once.

Music - 10/10 While alot of the music in Kingdom Hearts was really good (with the exeption of a number of disney worlds
*cough* Wonderland *cough*), Kingdom Heats 2 blows the original away in this category. There was not one note played during the game that I found annoying or didn't like.
From the haunting and truely beautiful intro theme, "Sanctuary" to the epic musics of battle to the soft background, to the numerous disney themes. All are composed so well, they will never get on your nerves nomatter how long you have to listen to them.

Story/Cinematography/Acting - 10/10 With writting, direction and acting far above what is found in most video games, along with movie-quality cinematography creates an experience as compelling as an actual movie. Moreso even. The voice-cast alone is amazing, with almost every character voiced by their original actor("Ansem" being the only notable exception).

Difficultiy - While alot of people claim this game is too easy, maybe its better that way. It makes it easier for more people to experience the story, which is the real point of Kingdom Hearts. If you want harder gameplay, pick the "proud" setting, and don't equip any of Donald or Goofy's abilities, and don't do any extracurricular leveling up. "Forgetting" to equip Sora with good equipment helps there too.

Conclusion - There is nothing more to debate. Buy this game. Its that simple. Buy it. There is no reason not to.

This game is tons of fun for both kids and adults. It combines final fantasy with Disney, but it's not a "cutesy" game at all. It goes along the same guide lines of the first one, but it's just as fun and I believe a little user friendly for the younger players. In all this game is much like the first, with both new and old characters, and it's real fun.

Awesome Sequel

even better than the first game! beautiful to look at, with a great storyline, and truer to the original disney movies. the only bad thing i can think to say, is that compairitively to the anime ane disney characters, the Pirates and Elizabeth look a bit sleezy. if they weren't standing next the the anime characters though, they'd look even prettier. like i said... it's just the visual compairison

Not bad but not ground breaking

I was looking forward to this game but i completed it on standard mode within under 3 weeks. It was far too short and easy. Nothing paticularry excited me either. It was dissapointing that there was no gameplay in destiny islands at the end. I sort of enjoyed the story but it was far too short.

Where do I begin!

I'll round it up in three words.

I LLOOVVEE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

However there are 3 cons.

1,It's shorter than the first one.
2,Leveling up gets harder the farther you get.
3,Most of the keyblades aren't as cool as the ones in the first game.

Overall it is a great game and if you have the money for it...

BUY IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you liked the first one, you'll like this one because it's more of the same stuff. This game mixes up the play pretty well and and has a good balance. It's interesting (and fun) to fight with Donald, Goofy and Mickey mouse right next to all the FF charters. I loved that you could choose the difficulty level (all games should do this), and I would swear that if you keep losing to a boss that the game adjusts the difficulty down (very innovative if that is indeed the case). Plays at about 40 hours or so.

great

This title is amazing. The depth of the game shocked me. I cannot believe all the material they managed to fit on this CD. I say that in all seriousness. I have played for 17 hours to date, and rank this right at the top of my game enjoyment. At 38, I never thought I would enjoy "this type of game". It is the best!

The game is filled with many, many quality cut scenes, a great story, a huge amount and variety of adventures, and a tough finish. Highly recommended for children of all ages...including 38 year olds like me.

KHII the second time is usually better

I have played this game, and at first was disappointed in how easy it was to beat the different worlds. Granted, I was trying to get through and see the final boss battle, have waited waay tooo long for this sequel to the first one. Went through, and really didn't do a whole lot of the side events, or synthesize that much. Now replayed, I have truly enjoyed the game the way I think, Disney and Squenix wanted us to. My only gripe is why did it take so long for this to come out??? We were dying out here! Beautifully rendered, and the worlds added were really great. The only real drawback about the total game was the beginning. It took too long to get past Roxus and play as Sora once again...and although you have clues as to who Roxas really is, it doesn't tie to together until very late in the game. Overall another keeper from Disney and Squenix. Thanks guys, ya did it again! Keep 'em coming!

I love this game. If you are into these type of RPG games this would be perfect for your child. The first game was good but this is different in a sense.
