The best game ever!

I really like this game!I played it on the Xbox and what more on the PS2!I know it's going to be better on the PS2 because that's where it originally came from!

Not worth it if you have the original!

Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance is NOT worth while if you have the original Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. Especially on the PS2 where it's more or less a re-release of that one but with expansions.

First of all, the "300+" VR Missions is NOT 300+ considering that you play through the same damn levels over and over again with about eight different characters. Not only that but they count the same level twice if you decide to do a time trial. The game actually averages about 40-50 missions when you look at it this way. There are several different modes but they aren't worth it.

As far as the Snake tails go...they're dumb. I thought throwing in Raiden was a bad idea but at least putting him in the main story halfway through was much better than THIS! There is no point to the Snake Tails and for some reason you go through a bunch of VR missions in the last couple of levels of Snake Tails. Snake Tails also has no definite plot at all. They only made the Snake Tails to satisfy those who didn't like Raiden it seems. I'm probably the only person in existence who didn't have a problem with Raiden at all (If you look under SOL many gave it one star just because of that! Sorry but that's not how you game).

Aside from the VR missions and Snake Tails what else is new? Well, we get European-Extreme Mode which is a nice add on considering the American Extreme Mode actually was hard enough, this one presents a completely new challenge with much more complexity in the guards. While just like the American Extreme Mode this can become seriously easy once you figure everything out, it was still nice to experience. It actually is harder than the American-Extreme mode.

Aside from the VR missions and the new difficulty level there is no difference between this and the original besides a few small elements in the gameplay (such as only having to destroy one sensor in the Tanker rather than the three), but that doesn't make this game worth the price they're asking for.

As far as getting rid of Raiden was? Nope didn't happen. As I mentioned it seemed as though the Snake Tails were only to satisfy those whinning gamers who didn't like Raiden.

My advice is to actually go out and get the original. The only bonus this one really has is mediocre VR Missions. If you want a review of the main story I suggest you look at a four star or five star review of MGS2 Sons of Liberty since you'll actually get info from them.

BUY THIS GAME!!! IT'S WORTH IT!!!!

I want to first thank Hideo Kojama for blessing me and all Metal Gear fans with the opportunity to play this EXCELLENT game. With that aside, let's get to the review. Did I like this game, is it fun you ask ? thats the stupidist question ever!!!! Quite simply THIS GAME ROCKS REALLY HARD!!!! the main game alone is worth $.... I know this has been said about more than one game but the story gabs you, and doesn't let go!!!!! It also has enough plot twists to make your head spin. I mean, towards the end of the game I thought the events of this ame could actually happen!!! In addition to the plot, THE VOICE ACTING IS FLAWLESS!! Some of the characters are played so well that you actually believe for a second that they are real poeople in real events. If some one dies, you actully say "No why did they have to die!?!? Why?!? The GRAPHICS are awsome!! Not too many games can boast graphcs like this one can. This game also has ton of mini-games and side-quests. Over 350 VR missions in all. Official playstation magazine said "Grown Men have been Known to weep this games magnificence." Wow thats saying alot, and its true. the musicis perfect for the game. i was humming the opening song for a week!! But if you haven't played Metal gear solid you probably should. You'll understand the games plot better if you do. Put simply, this is the game that all other games like it will be compared to for a long time to come. My 2nd favorite game of all time for the PS2. 1st goes to the magical FFX (final Fantasy X.) Buy both. On a scale of 1 to 10 it dserves a 30. Now run! Go and buy this game!

worth it

This is an excellent game. In addition to the original mgs2, there are extra missions for snake to do at the plant, a skateboarding mini game, hundreds of vr missions, unlockable characters, and (my personal favorite) a "casting theater" where you can replay movies from the game with different characters swapped in (ie, have otacon slaughter a seal team 10 made up of fortunes, then try to kill ocelot, only to be stopped by solidus snake). The possibilities are infinite here.

DOH!

Since my mgs2:sons of liberty broke, i need to buy another, so i got this. This game includes hundreds of new missions in vr, and 5 snake tales. I cant wait to try the pointless "scate around the big shell on a skateboard" GOD! i beleive alll gamers who played sol remmebr the glorifying moment when we all received the cool hf blade... only to have it stripped away 15 minutes later. If Hideo Kojima REALLY wanted to blow this game outta the water, i say he should have included the hf blade as a dog tag reward, however almost averything included top that off. i give this 4 1/2 stars. Just seeing myself slaughtering the poor russian soldiers makes me laugh. Hideo did a wonderful job on the blood. Seeing it spray everywhere from the cut mayh be gross and discusting, but at least its fancy...

Much cooler after Twin Snakes!

I loved the original MGS. I liked MGS2, although it's storyline is a little on the convulted side. However, after playing twin snakes, I have found a new love for this game. There is a lot of gameplay compared to twin snakes, and it shows. The environments are a lot more inventive, and the graphics are somewhat better in areas(ie Tanker rain, outdoor areas of oil rig, and character models). In Twin Snakes, the areas are slightly darker and the gun models are on the black side, which looks cooler for a lot of parts. Still, this game's graphics are top-notch.

For those planning on buying Twin Snakes.... Well, this game is a lot better. The extras are incredible! Tons of VR, Dog Tags(In Twin Snakes, they do nothing), Skateboarding, Snake tales, Cinema Theatre, and the list grows. I love the extras now. I love the fact that everything looks great, especially the oil rig outdoor stuff. The extras in Twin Snakes are the same as the original(not alot).

As for cutscenes, they don't seem like alot after Twin Snakes. The game is basically much more fun after realizing that this is true stealth action. The gameplay and cinematics balance each other out. In Twin Snakes, the cinematics make the gameplay about 5 minutes total not including boss fights. This game is a solid investment and it truly has no flaws in my opinion.

What Is This?

The graphics aren't bad or anything. This is actually like a mod and not a new game. You'd rather be better off without this game.It has a few extras and minigames, improved graphics and fixed bugs. Overall, it's just the same game. Don't buy it unless you got some green to burn.

This is the best American game ever. it makes sence other than any other stupid American Game. the Japan people who made this game did the best. I rate This The best 1# Japan/American game ever. Other games are stupid and don't make sence like this one you know what's going on and follows the story. ALL METAL GEAR GAMES MAKE SENCE AND ITS LIKE IT REALLY DID HAPPEN. SOME AMERICAN GAMES DON'T MAKE SENCE THATS JUST STUPID THEY SHOPULD CHANGE IT. JAPAN GAMES RULE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
