Not what I was expecting

It's the same thing as MGS2 with the exception of Snake Tails(which the levels look like a training sessions). There's no new plot.

Better than Splitter Cell

Theres more things to do in Substance that Sons of Liberty. Theres about 500 VR missions and alternate missions and some old characters from part one like meryl and the old solid snake. Theres even a skate board game to play with Raiden or Solid Snake. The game contains the orginal Sons of Liberty game inside. I would recommend this for any Metal Gear fan and at a low price about ten dollars off.

Excellent tactical action.

For those of you who havent played MGS2 yet, or have, and beat the game, there's no better time to get MGS2 Substance, which is a must have for any MGS2 fan. It features tons of new missions, an okay skateboarding mode, and a whole lot more. While the high price tag is a little questionable, players who truly appreciate the game will have gotten their moneys worth.

Excellent Game

This game is amazing. The story of Metal Gear games are always excellent at keeping you interested throughout the game. The game is different, however, than the other Metal Gear games. Most of the game is played with another charachter. Not Snake. Though this charachter is pretty cool also, he isn't the same as Solid Snake. I recomend you get this game. Even when you have beaten it, there are bonous things you can get in the game. Like stelth camo, infinte ammo, and more.

SPlinter Cell and MGS2, nothing alike

Reading reviews of both MGS2 and Splinter Cell, I see that a lot of people compare them and they say that Splinter Cell will kill off MGS2, this is like saying that Red Faction 2 will kill off GTA: Vice City. MGS2 and SC are really nothing alike, SC is more realistic, with it's dynamic lighting and situations whereas MGS2 is a mix of fantasy and reality with the situations and the characters like Vamp and Fortune. these two games are really nothing alike, with that out of the way, ON TO THE REVIEW.

Unlike most video games, this game has an actual story, but stories in other games are usually paper-thin with characters that feel unrealistsic whereas this game has a story that is so complex, it risks losing the player behind and the characters are TOO realistic, and it gets annoying. When you save a game in the Plant Chapter, you have to listen to a long conversation between Jack and Rose that isn't worth listening too, and YES, the names really are Jack and Rose (TITANIC reference)

The gameplay is excellent with perfect AI and easy controls to master and the graphics are great.

NOW, those of you who have SONS OF LIBERTY might be wondering if you should get this in addition to SONS OF LIBERTY, my advice is don't get this if you have SOL, but if you don't have SOL, get this.

Best game to date

This game has the BEST cg than any other games. It also has the BEST gameplay for which there are ACTIONS that are obvious and the game do it for you so you won't have to complicate yourself like hiding bodies in lockers (not like SOCOM U.S. Navy SEALs).

This is a Kick A$$ game

Metal Gear Solid Rules

Metal Gear Solid 2 rules. Konami has down it again. It has some of the same classic characters like Snake, Otacon, and Shalashaska(Ocelot Revolver). My only complaint is that you have to play half of the game as Jack Raiden. He looks just like a girl. I will always prefer Snake over the new guy... or girl, whatever Raiden is. I don't think this game is as long as the other one, but its still long. I am a hardcore gamer, and can usually beat a game within 3 days to 2 weeks. This game took me a little under a month. This game is cool but I prefer the first MGS, reguardless to its animation and graphics. Still this game is right up there with SOCOM, Halo, and Star Wars KOTOR. I wish they would make movie about MGS. And a reminder to all fans of mgs, MGS3 Snake Eater is coming out this fall.

My favorite Metal Gear Solid game, yes even with Raiden.

As I stated above, this is my favorite game in the Metal Gear Solid series. It be due to the fact that it was also my first. My friends all raved about the original Metal Gear Solid, and they said Sons of Liberty was too.. Well, I had bought a Playstation 2 already so that I could play GTA III, so I figured I'd at least look into this, and I'm glad I did.

The graphics are top notch, some of the best you'll see on a Playstation 2. The art design is very clean looking, but dark and gloomy at the same time, there's something about it I find appealing.

The soundtrack is awesome, I just love it. Its a legendary soundtrack in gaming now, and rightfully so. Its fast paced and very suspenseful, I couldn't imagine Metal Gear Solid without it.

The game play is classic stealth at its finest. While Tenchu was really the first stealth game, this is the series that really made the genre explode. It keeps that polished game play here and improves on it. As good as the stealth is, its not the main focus of the game. The main focus of the game is storyline. Many will love the storytelling, others will hate it, but I was one of the people who loved it. In my opinion this is the game in the series where the wacky storytelling is at its wackiest and finest. Seriously, the last 20 minutes or so are so insane, they remind me of the ending of 2001: A Space Odyssey. For those itching for more Metal Gear Solid there's some added content in Substance. There's the VR missions, Snakes Tales, and the MGS Skateboarding game.

Overall, if you enjoy stealth game play, and at the very least don't mind a storyline, you might enjoy this. I'm aware however, of the enormous amount of hate this series receives, and so apparently this game won't be for everyone. Those who do try it, don't go in expecting to hate it, give it a chance, you might end up loving it as much as I did.
