Awesome Game! Comparable to Zelda!

This game is the Zelda of the PS2. I bought this thinking it was a flop, the company went out of business but little did I know, this is one of the best adventure game I've played on the PS2. The painbrush control is the coolest thing about this game. It was too new for its time. I really enjoyed this game because of the story and the gameplay mechanics. It is very addictive and it keeps you playing for hours just fighting creatures and saving the village. I still haven't beaten this game but have played over 30 hrs so far and I have to say, It can beat Zelda any day, especially since it's on the wii now.

Great looking game, but more for kids

This game is very unique because of its cartoonist graphics. However, it's not exactly "fun" and it's more like a kid's game, perhaps girls too. I don't like how the dialogs have a nonsense babbling in the background. I like the graphics and uniqueness of the game. It's recommended, but if you like fast action games this isn't it.

Thank you

I definitely did not know what to expect when I first played this game all I knew was that the main character was a wolf and that you would draw a lot throughout the game. I did not not know how this would be done, and I was pleased with the outcome. Okami is an extremely addicting and fun action-adventure in the likes of "The Legend of Zelda: The Windwaker". Every time I play I feel like I'm playing another life. You will never run out of things to do and the story is just incredible. Great game. Pick up a copy and stay up late playing it!

artistic and fun

The game is just what I heard on magazine articles. It is very artistic. The watercolor background and characters are beautiful. It is so different to what we gamers are used too. (which is CG graphics, just as beautiful.) The story moves in an even pace and it is easy to figure out what to do and go next. The unique talking can get a bit annoying at times, but you can speed up that at times. I really love it.

Okami- a revolutionary game

This game is probably one of the best if not the best the best role playing game i have ever played. It takes Japanese art & myth and then combines it for an intriguing game. the interaction when you use the brush stroke techniques make it all the more exciting. The only thing i regret is i heard the game is coming out for the wii, but i dont have one of those. i just the wii controls would make it even more exillerating to play. well if you have a PS2 or a Wii BUY this game for your system

PS better buy it quick for the PS2 because it is out of print which means normal dealers will charge alot.

Okami: Better than its sales, but worse than you think

This game did not sell. Most magazines list it as one of the most underrated games of the PS2. While that may be true, Okami would still not qualify as a "good" game. If it was rated a 1 out of 10, then it is underrated. If it rated a 4 out of ten, it is not underrated.

First, if you were to string all of the cut scenes together, you would be watching about 5 hours worth of cut scenes. They are tortuous, and they happen often. There is no recorded dialog, only text that types out one--letter--at--a--time. And you cannot skip them. The opening scene is a total buzz kill and takes--literally--about 30 minutes. You have to continuously hit X after each sentence. I've played video games since the Atari 2600. I love all of the Zeldas and Final Fantasies. This game is, by far, the worst with it's dialog and cut-scenes. This factor alone, had I known about it, would have kept me from buying this game.

Second, this game is unbelievably easy. There is this little bug character that sits on your head throughout the game. Every time you come upon a puzzle the bug says: "Hey! you should [INSERT ANSWER TO PUZZLE]!" You literally don't have to think about anything for the entire game. I kept thinking that my training period would be over. But nope, you are told what to do for the entire game. This game is for 3 graders who read slow and can't figure anything out.

That being said, the art is neat and the graphics are good.

If I can save even one person from purchasing this game, I have done my job.

The last great game for the PS2

This game is absolutely perfect, and truly shows that game play and innovation, not graphics, shows the true heart and soul of a game that makes it worth playing over and over again. I am near fluent in Japanese and have studied the culture extensively, so I can say that I appreciate the way that old myths such as "the bamboo cutter" and the tale of Japan's creation are re-woven into a new and exciting gaming experience.
It is similar to Legend of Zelda in that one doesn't gain "levels" so much as useful items to help meet new challenges.
I only have two issues, and only one of them is game related: The camera in the game is incredibly annoying, and while I can perfectly understand and appreciate the developer's efforts to further draw one into the experience, it would be nice to have had an option to allow me to put it the way I like it (further back from the protagonist's rear), because there are times when I think I may have almost gotten a touch of motion sickness.
The other issue is the fact that Capcom dissolved Clover, the internal studio that made such a beautiful game. It's a shame in that I would love to have seen what they could have done with other mythologies of the world, like with Norse mythology, for example--the mythology's cast of warriors would have made a great adventure game! Or even one based on the American Wild West--playing chief Sitting Bull or even as Pacos Bill would have been art so beautiful it would have brought tears to my eyes.

Capcom, if you are reading this, bring the band back together!
