Very Cool

Five scenarios and eight characters means a lot of replay value. The game is excellent. The graphics are flawless, however, the controls take some getting used to. Also, some of the zombie sounds are recycled from Resident Evil games of the 90's. You'd think they'd be able to afford to record new sounds by now! And the virus meter is very annoying. The first scenario, Outbreak, takes place on the streets of Raccoon city, reminiscent of Resident Evil 2 and 3. The only problem with it is that there is seemingly an endless supply of zombies, who can open doors. The second scenario, Below Freezing Point, is a lot of fun, as it takes place in Umbrella's secret lab from Resident Evil 2 and 0. The third scenario, The Hive, takes place in a hospital, I think the same one from Resident Evil 3. The only problem with this scenario is that there's a monster that always follows you around, and it reminded me of the Leech Monster from Resident Evil 0. The fourth scenario, Hellfire, takes place in a burning hotel, and is very cool, since it features the return of the Lickers. The fifth and final scenario is called Decisions, Decisions. It takes place at Raccoon University, and has many routes to explore. I haven't played it online, so I can't comment on that aspect of it. This game is an excellent mix of old and new, and a must-have.

i bought this game in hopes of blasting away zombies and having fun. the first level is cool and is the only level that feels like you are stuck in the middle of an outbreak epidemic. the rest of the few levels just feel like all the science and sewer parts of the past games, only rearranged. the difference in character choices is hardly anything special. some people can kick ass, others can unlock stuff, some can heal, but no matter what, you still get the same boring gameplay. the characters still walk around like tanks, as they do in previous titles, but the controls don't bother me. what made me mad that i wasted fifty bucks on this is that it's so freakin' short, and there's hardly any replay value other than unlocking movies and pictures. the on-line isn't all the fun either. but it's better than the single player mode. after i wasted my time with this, i felt sorry for capcom. if this is the best they can come up with, than they are headed for bankruptcy. but then i played resident evil 4 for the gamecube and that straigtened me out a bit. it kicks ass, but this game does not. buy this if you are a die hard resident evil fan. avoid it if you want a cool, entertaining game. either way, resident evil 4 can't get here soon enough.

More Annoying Than Scary

I actually own 'Resident Evil: Outbreak File #2', but I rented the first Outbreak for over a week, and let me say this Outbreak is by far the most annoying Resident Evil I've played/seen!

Gist Of The Game: If you've played all the other Resident Evils out there, then you know what the games are about. If not, here's the scoop: Umbrella Corporation has 'accidentally' released a deadly virus into the air, turning all living/non living into undead, flesh eating creatures! Now it's up to eight survivors -- all with unique personalities/careers -- to try and get out of Raccoon City before the virus takes over them!

Gameplay: You control one of eight characters (3 females and 5 males) and out of the rest, two of them join you on a mission to complete each scenario without being taken over by the virus. Meaning, if your 'virus gauge' reaches 100%, you die. Overall, you have a time limit on whatever scenario you choose (there are 5 scenarios to start out with).

My Opinion On Game: The only nice things I can say about the game is the unique characters that Capcom made (along with people who wear more 'normal' outfits'). Also, the levels, the bosses, and even the creepy monsters that sometimes chase you around in certain places are rather disturbing. I admit that this first Outbreak is better with the scenarios than the second one.
Actually, even though the characters are unique, but they're the biggest flaws in the game! You can't even choose the people to acompany you, and their dialouge -- they just can't keep their mouths shut! They barely help you out in the first place! The side characters just usually run around complaining and whining about the situation.
Another thing is the whole aiming system. The second Outbreak actually improves greatly on this, but for this one...it stinks. It would help to move and 'auto-aim' at the enemies rather than doing it manually (I guess it's good for people looking for a challenge).
Last but not least is the puzzles. Usually I can figure out puzzles without any help (at hard ones, I sometimes shut the system off and think it over) but these Outbreak puzzles can be quite tricky without help from a players guide. Also, puzzles and the number of monsters changes depending on which difficulty level you pick. Even the easy difficulty can be somewhat hard.

Overall: I guess if you're a Resident Evil fan, then I reccomend playing this just for the heck of it. Personally though, the second Outbreak is much better -- unfortunately though, the scenarios aren't as frightening and...neither are the monsters/bosses...

The Best Resi Game Yet

Given its horrifically decaying, putrid subject matter this may sound a bit, well, redundant, but so far as its PS2 strain has been concerned, Resident Evil has been stale for some time now.
Code: Veronica X was good but not original, and as for your Survivours and dead aims, well, bless their rancid little socks but they never really felt like Resi Evil proper. Which is why I have been going gooier than a wardful of Ebola victims at the prospect of Outbreak.

Outbreak gives you the chance to play with up to 8 different characters 5 men including a police officer an ex vietnam vet and even a plumer. If that wasn't enough it is also online which means you are able to play with other people around the world sort of a united force taking on the horror of virtual zombies.
There are also a different variety of weapons so now along with your standard hand gun and shotgun you can use things such as pipes and broom sticks. However, weapons such as these break after a certain amount of use meaning you have to search for more so it's best if you don't use them because the last thing you want is for your broom to break while your in the middle of fendind of a horde of Zombies, not nice. Also in Outbreak the zombies have become more smarter and are now able to follow you through doors but not to worry my fellow Resi players you are now able to hide in lockers and under beds I guess no matter how hard those zombie scum try we're always one step ahead.

Overall this is by far the best Resi game I have played yet and the fact that it can be played online is a mere bonus. The graphics on Outbreak are sharper and the environment are now more interactable. Outbreak aslo has great replay value as there are 8 character and each one has their own abilities and story. I think it has rekindled the Resi flame and with Resident Evil 4 set to make an appearence I think its safe to say that the flesh eating horror that is RESIDENT EVIL is back.

Great game, but flawed

"Resident Evil: Outbreak" is a really (...)game--or at least, it ought to be. The graphics and general gameplay are very, very good; the best yet for a "RE" game. However, you only get to carry 4 items at a time, and one of those has to be ammo! Try packing more than just a handgun, and you've got a serious problem on your hands.

One solution is to choose the character which has a backpack, allowing you to carry 8 items at a time. The other way is to get your AI buddies to carry stuff for you. Also, communicating with said buddies, either in offline single-player mode or online multi-player mode, is limited to a half-dozen pre-programmed messages. So, you're basically reduced to shouting "Help me! Help me!", which doesn't always work, especially in offline mode.

These are only minor difficulties, however, compared to the challenges of fighting off zombies, lickers and other creatures as you try to make through the night alive and in one piece. As an added twist (or bonus, depending on your point of view), you can "die" in this game, come back as a zombie, and attack the humans. That, IMHO, is really cool. Final rating: 9/10.

Resident Evils 1&2 for the original Playstation are two of the best games ever made. RE2 alone surpasses nearly all the other horror based games that were created for the consule, and there were plenty to follow. With the evolution of the new gaming systems came new Resident Evil games. RE Nemsis proved to be a challenging game of cat and mouse. RE Survivor squandered in its attempt to switch the horror genre to the first person. Now Resident Evil is back on the Playstation after some new titles under the Nintendo name. The suspsense and antcipation for the game were killing me so I quickly bought it when it was released in April of this year. Little did I know that the game itself would kill me. RE Outbreak is quite frankly the most dissapointing horror game in the storied franchise. The game is bad, very bad, and it has a number of reasons why. First, you can not turn a survial based game into a team effort. The fact that you have to help nearly everyone in this game just as much as yourself is ridiculous. The game doesn't allow you to focus on the tasks and puzzles at hand, not to mention the 5 billion zombies that are thrown your way. The loading screens are absolutely agonizing. They were never good on the PSOne, so you think with the adaption to the PS2 this minor glich would get cleared up. Oops. The story is slow, the characters are dull, and the constant reptitive lines spoken by them is enough to make you want to turn into a zombie. Oh wait, you can in this game, and then kill all of your teammates. What? Who came up with that brillant idea? With such a storied past you think Capcom would play off its original success. Instead, Resident Evil Outbreak is dead on arrival.

RESIDENT EVIL FOREVER

This game is going to be, by far the best Resident Evil game to date, this coming not only from a Resident Evil Fan, but a huge Gamer as well. Considering this is much much better than pervious games, and if you even enjoyed them slightly than you should love this game... If you are here to purchase Resident Evil Outbreak, than you are 0bviously familiar with the controls, and the camera, and you should be 100% fine with those very minor downgrades, I know they dont bother me. I can personally GUARANTEE THIS GAME WILL BE AWESOME. People who are trying to say this game is no good, are stupid, ignorant people, who are obviously not Resident Evil Fans at all. This game will feature online play, but if your not able to play online, as many of you will not, This game is just as enjoyable in offline mode as it is online. This is going to be by far the longest entry into the series yet, featuring over 20 hours of gameplay. If you enjoyed pervious Resident Evil Games at all, this Game betters them in every way, Graphics, Gameplay, and just overall FUN Factor. This is going to be the best Resident Evil to hit shelves in a long while. Anyone who is saying this game is no good, is totally being ignorant, and they probably don't know anyting about this game. I have been following this game for a long time now, and I can tell you that there is going to be enough in this game to keep you occupied for a very long time. If you are even slighty a fan of Video Games, than this is going to be one of the GREATEST YOU WILL EVER PLAY... enjoy it!

Looking forward to this game - No online fee!

I am personally looking forward to this game. I have played previous Resident Evil games, and this one promises and looks to be alot better that the most recent games.

I don't know where people are getting the idea of an online fee, but if you go to Capcom website for this game in the Q&A section, it says there will be NO added fee for online play. And that is the main reason I am looking forward to this game and not other online games that do charge a monthly service online fee.

According to Capcom's website, there will be no fee for online play.

out of all the games I played, this is the game for me. it combines Resident evil 2 with resident evil 3 nemisis. also the reason that I like it is because it really is jam packed with new features like free mode (or infinite ammo free mode) makes me want to buy this game. If you like to fight zombies then this is the game for you.

How Disappointing!

You know, I had anticipated more, at least the kind of "more" survival horror fans yearn for. What a disappointment to play the most recent version of a series I've really loved playing: I found myself turning the thing off, pulling the disk, and returning it to the rental place the following day!

Make no mistake. I LOVE Resident Evil 2, RE Code Veronica X, all the Silent Hills, Parasite Eves, Fatal Frames, and The Suffering but I REALLY DISLIKE THIS GAME.

Gameplay is very stilted, claustrophobic, and predictable. I guess maybe an RE fan with a jones to play in the dark with others with their PS II's in the dark could dig this game. The single player experience is certainly one of the lamest I've had in years (since perhaps my experience with Galerians: Ash!).

I guess the key to this game is enjoying the nostalgia of playing an RE game on the PS II ... and if the nostalgia can't raise you above the cruel realitites of this lame game, you're out of luck.

Phew, anyway, don't buy this sucker -- rent it if you're curious... and save your dollars for SH 4.

Man, what a disappointment...
