Finally Something Original

By original I mean different then any of the formulated videogame products that are out right. No, this isn't a `Metal Gear' rip off with cartoon characters. It isn't Crash Bandicoot, or Spryo.... This game is addictive and rewarding. It's almost like an interactive cartoon.

Gameplay advances very well. However you might be able to beat this game in one sitting, if you consider one sitting 12-14 hours of nonstop game play. But you haven't really mastered it. Beat a level and continue on, or gather all the clues (the number of which vary on every level) and learn a new move or technique. You can do this after beating the level. Completing the level and uncovering all the clues allows you to do a time trial of the sorts. Beat that level in the allotted time and unlock a special commentary, almost the same you would find on DVD films. Some of the time trials will have you cursing at the screen, but you comeback from it more determined to kick [butt]the second time around.

The animation sequences that appear throughout the game don't detract you at all. They're beautifully drawn and entertaining, keeping you excited for what's next. In game voiceovers advance the plot or describe a new move you just learn, but never deter the games flow. Sly's voice seems a bit to whispery during voiceovers.

The control is where it really shines. You can do almost the impossible by pushing one or two button combinations. Animations are seamlessly tide together. Just the way the game begins is so simple its cool. You start out with an in game graphic intro where Sly's sifting through Paris's rooftops. When you press start the game begins right where sly left off.

Don't let the cartoon animation approach to this game fool you. It's defiantly a worth while platform game.

BEST GAME EVER!!!!!!

this was one of the best games i have ever played! it's action packed with many beautiful levels to explore, not to mention dodging lasers, gangsters, and guards, while collecting jewels, and obtaining clues to get new moves. one of my favorite moves i recieved was the INVISIBLE move where you could sneek right in front of the guards faces.it's great.another great move i recieved was the FAST move, where you can move faster than normal, speeding up the game play. not to mention it is very annoying when you fall off a platform and you have to "redo" getting back up there, well the FAST move lets you get back up there in no time.this game has about five levels, each with about 8 levels inside of those! I was amazed at how many levels there were. I'm a gamer who beats games in less than a week(besides the zelda games), so if you beat games fast, i would just rent this. but i barely finished this before i had to return it. I couldn't take my eyes off this game.this is the BEST GAME EVER!buy this buy this buy this!trust me you won't be sorry you bought it!

I did some research and checked reviews on this game, everything was positive. I personally am not a video game player. My 7 year old son has rented a few of the popular games. I talked him into trying SLY. He absolutely loved it. It's the first game he's asked me to buy. You can guess what game will be under the tree this Christmas.

This is a Sly game

This is without a doubt one of the best games the Playstation 2 has to offer. The graphics are outstanding. Way better than most PS2 games. XBox holds nothing over this game. The sound fits the games cartoonish style perfectly. The voice acting is right on the money. The level design is perfect. You'll always have a sense of what to do. The controls are tight and simple. You can pick the game up and right away you'll feel comfortable controlling Sly. Overall, this game is perfect. There's not a thing wrong with it.

Graphics: 5.0
Sound: 5.0
Control: 5.0
Fun Factor: 5.0

I was getting tired of games like Spyro and along comes Sly Cooper. This game lets you play as a raccoon bandit, and you go through 30+ levels and fight bosses like a pirate frog or a big gangster bulldog to return the pages of the Thievious Raccoonus to it's rightful owner. This game has awesome cartoon graphics and fast gameplay, I got past the bulldog but it was rented. But I'm getting this game for my birthday.

Pleasure for older gamers, ambrosia for younger gamers.

I have a 6yr old son who loves video games. The media has informed me that this is bad. I happen to disagree. This is his favorite game, and it's one of mine too. His grades haven't slacked off, although he did sign his name as "Sly Fox" on one assignment.

The game is simple, beautiful, and addictive. It didn't take me very long to complete it, but I still enjoy playing it over and over again. The story will draw you in, as it did for my son. I could give all the standard kudos - graphics, etc., but I'll just summarize: It is all good.

The point I would like to make in my review is that if you have young children who enjoy video games, and you like to play with them, I believe this is the best game out there for you. Don't fire up GTA3, the media is right about that one for kids. Pick this game up and have a blast!

The most fun I have had playing a game in a long time

Let me start off by saying I am 32 years old. This is the most fun I've had playing a game since I used to stay up until 3:00 in the morning playing the ol' Nintendo. The cell shading graphics are sometime breath taking but always amazing. The game play and control are superb. I disagree with an earlier review that said "nothing original here". I find this game completely original and fascinating. Five levels with tons of areas to explore and thieve. GET THIS GAME!

Fun Game.. too short.

Sly Cooper is a young master thief, assisted by his turtle buddy, Bentley, and a hippo named Murray. The threesome set out on a mission of vengeance, striking back against the five criminals who killed Sly's father and stole the Thievius Raccoonus.
The Fiendish Five have split up and gone their separate ways since stealing Sly's book, so you'll traverse through five separate worlds. Each world has seven main objectives that manifest themselves in the form of treasure keys. Once you've collected all seven keys, you can fight the world's boss.

Aside from getting through the levels, there are also a few extra objectives in the game's standard levels. Each level has a collection of bottles hidden throughout. Once you collect all the bottles, you can open that level's vault and retrieve a page of the Thievius Raccoonus. Each page will give Sly an additional move, such as a forward dash attack, the ability to slow time down while jumping, and a high-speed roll. Each level has a time attack objective that becomes available once you've gotten a key and all of its bottles. The most difficult part of the game is that Sly normally dies after taking just one hit. Collecting a lot of coins can bring this number up to two or three hits before Sly dies.
One-hit deaths can be a little frustrating in a few of the game's more difficult portions. With only a couple of exceptions, all the enemies die with one swing of your cane. The game throws a few stealth situations at you, but this is limited to merely avoiding laser beams, spotlights and alarmed floor panels.
Sly Cooper is a great game, the story works, the graphics are really impressive and the gameplay is a lot of fun. The main problem is that just as you're getting into a groove and really enjoying the variety seen throughout the different worlds and levels, the game ends.

Sly is great!

This game is hard to get used to, but that's where the cons end. Thsi game is so addictive, I have beaten it twice and I still can't get off it! I mean, if you want a game that you can keep playing get this! Though don't even try the master theif sprints; they are imposible to beat. Adults, don't get me wrong, this looks like a kids game and the story line is like a kids game, but you will be playing for hours! This game rocks! Get it, and play it again and again and again!
