gta + spiderman = a must get title

I got this game today ( 6-29 ) and i played it for 6 and a half hours. this game is deffinetly what spiderman fans have been waiting for. the controls deffintly have a learning curve but when you get the hang of them it is great. the story is good but the side missions get repetitive. to confirm any speculations there are 5 villians. doc ock, mysterio, lizard, shocker, and rhino. the voice overs could have been better but the game is sooooooooooooo much fun you forget about it. words cant explain it go over to your local best buy ( there is a 5 dollar off coupon in a game pro ) and purchase that sucker. p.s. the movie is also incredible.

Better than Spidey's every game

Do Whatever A Spider Can

Well basically, the title says it all: DO WHATEVER A SPIDER CAN. And more. In the game, you're put back into the shoes as the comic-book hero, Spider-Man in a free-roaming 3-D replica of New York City. Now, before you say that this game is just like the first Spider-Man game based on the film, be sure to know that Spider-Man 2 is about 10 times better. How? In the game, as the Wall-Crawling, Web-shooting super-powered spider hero, you roam across the entire New York landscape, recognizing familiar landmarks and going almost anywhere you want, from into dark alleys to stalking the rooftops, or even jumping onto the back of a truck and letting it take you to its destination. In new York, its Spidey's job to exterminate crime...so thats exactly what the game allows players to do. Crime appears almost at random, from carjackers to gang wars. In the game, players purchase certain attacks and acrobatic moves to use while roaming across the city. Crime fighting is also very fun and simple at the same time...players can use multiple moves to dispose or toy with their enemies such as tying up to four criminals up at a time before tossing them across the block or hitting them with a powerful uppercut sending them flying into the air. There are also a number of boss battles to experience against some of Spider-Man's most famous and notorious super-villians such as the Rhino, Mysterio, a reintroduced Shocker and of course, Doctor Octopus. Web-slinging becomes somewhat challenging as webs attach to buildings now, and not clouds. You also get to see what villians might look like in the films instead of their usual comic book costume. Ceinamatic sequences are fresh and humorous. Though the storyline drifts away from the movie at certain points to explore a seperate world where Spidey gets to challenge seperate villians in some really fun areas such as web-slinging from a UFO hovering above Lady Liberty, from an opera house thats been set on fire by Mysterio and some miniature robotic aliens to the dramatic film battle scene where Doc Ock and Spidey duke it out on top of a train. My reccomandations to you...if you enjoy free-roaming battle games or or a Spidey fan, buy this game. If you are neither, I suggest renting the game first. The game may be able to be finished in about a week or more if the game is played straight for a couple of hours a day, but otherwise, Spider-Man 2 is definetely worth buying.

Grand Theft Spidey?

They say if it ain't broke, then don't fix it. I loved the first Spider-Man game. The graphics were crisp and detailed, the story was deep and involving, and the controls were precise and tight. Then Grand Theft Auto: Vice City came out, which completely re-wrote the video game genre. Games like True Crime and The Getaway were released that practically copied the GTA formula: Free roaming cities, mini-missions, mayhem and violence, etc. Add Spider-Man 2 to the list with mediocre results.

I admit that I was initially excited when I heard that Spider-Man could now swing freely through the city and bust bad guys on the streets below. Though the former is exhilirating and excellently implemented, the latter is dull and repititious. Like GTA, there is a mini-map of the city in the upper right hand corner of the screen. Whenever there is trouble, a green icon will appear in the location where a crime is taking place. Unfortunately, there is a lack of variety in these missions. You will either have to prevent a robber from getting away, take an injured civilian to the hospital, catch a civilian from falling to his or her death, or save people from a sinking boat. After a few of these, you'll begin wishing that the game would just get on with the story. Solving these missions contribute to your "Hero Points" which allow you to purchase moves and combos from a Spidey Store. Since when did Spidey have to buy his own moves and combos? Strange...

Unfortunately, due to the heavy reliance on memory and processing power to produce the massive scope of the game, the graphics are the first to suffer. In most instances, the game resembled a Playstation 1 game. Spidey generally looks good, but the other characters in the game look like spray-painted cardboard boxes. I would have preferred a much scaled-down city in order to boost the quality of the graphics because quite frankly, Spider-Man 2 is an ugly game.

Fans of the first game will most likely be disappointed with the sequel. Though the ability to explore the city by swinging from building to building is a treat, the gameplay and graphics truly suffer. This one is definately a rental.

They've found a new low!!!

Okay, I do happen to own this game. So, I can actually write a review. And this game seems to follow a trend in all the spidey games for PS. What I mean is the first game was good!!
I loved that game! It had it's limitations, but it was a Playstation 1 game. They made a sequel to that, and I really didn't like parts of it, because the control was sporadic. Then they make a game "based on" the movie. Bruce Campbell aside, it was really bad! Now this game is the culmination of all this garbage!

The non-linear story play is dumb! It may be like GTA but what you end up doing is swinging through town, find some town person waving their arms and they tell you about a crime that's happening THREE BLOCKS AWAY!! And there always the same crimes: a car is being chased by the cops- jump on it and stop them; an irate driver is driving recklessly- jump on it and stop him; an armoured car is being held up- find the crooks beat up a few of them, but the last few jump in a car- jump on it and stop them; and then purse snatchers; and my personal favorite, you stop to help someone and suddenly out of nowhere 8 crooks surround you!

And the control is terrible!!! I actually find it easier to run through town most of the time. And the only way to jump is to press and hold the jump button, let it charge, then release. Maybe they forgot that Playstation controllers are pressure sensitive! And web swinging is a joke!

But the story follows the movie as close as the first game based on the first movie did. All the stars of the movie: Spiderman, Mary Jane, Osbourne, Doc Ock, Rhino, Black Cat, Mysterio, Shocker, etc...

So if you're a masochist who wants to play a game that demands perfect control using spastic-at-best controls. Then this is the game for you!

I Really Wanted to Like This Game

After seeing the movie and hearing about the wonderful things you can do in the game I was excited about playing it. It's really fun for the first few hours. Bruce Campbell does a wonderful and funny job giving you hints on how to play the game. The New York layout looks wonderful (especially at night). And the webswinging is awesome, although it does take a while to get used to the controls of it.
Now the bad news: It's true what everyone else is saying here. The crimes and rescues around the city are monotonous. The graphics of the people and Spidey himself look horrible (Peter Parker looks like he's wearing shoulder pads and does not resemble Tobey Maguire in any way. All of the women in the city are wearing neckties and jackets. What's up with that?) And some of the storyline challenges are very frustrating. To me at least. It sounds like other veteran gamers are more skilled at this type of thing. After trying to fool myself that this game was just going to get better, I have decided to give up and will probably trade it in on something more fun and better to look at.

Spiderman 2 has many great improvements since the first game.In the first game you can't even go on the ground and you automatically die when you fall,at least you don't die now that you can go on the ground. Also you have an improved view.Right know I'm guessing that their might be something sorta like "Secret Store."Well all I'm saying is that this game is worth fifty dollars.
