Return of the Battlefront

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 5 / 7
Date: November 09, 2005
Author: Amazon User

It is very similar to the first, but with some new added features/gameplay.

I enjoyed the first, and there is a little bit of a "learning curve" that even experienced players of SW: Battlefront will have to adapt to when playing II. But it is not as bad as you think. Takes only a couple of minutes to figure out the new controls. And yes you can reload your weapon in mid-clip. Just hit the Down Arrow on the Dir. Pad.

Pros:
With kills/points you can unlock higher classes.
There's a limited number of each class, so you dont get overwhelmed by special classes.

The medals system is a nice touch. So many kills/points with certain weapons gains you Boosts or Equipment Upgrades. And an increase in rank will give you Squad Members.

Gameplay is now more diverse, and the clumsy starfighters are now gone. They are now more like the SW craft in other SW games (Rogue Squadron for example).
The maps are definitely interesting. With a wide variety to choose from.
Start with the Rise of the Empire campaign-- helps to become familiar with the controls while picking up experience.

The long delay between switching weapons is gone. Now its a more reasonable delay, letting you switch to a different weapon if you come to the end of a clip.

You can earn Jedi/special characters while playing (single, multi, etc.). The Jedi/Special Characters *can* be killed, they are not invincible.

Addition of a Stamina bar. This bar reduces with sprinting, jumping. When flying or in a vehicle, the bar is an Energy bar, representing available boost or special manuevers.

Cons:
Overheating certain weapons happens often, until you realize that you can do a quick burst of fire, then lay off with the occasional shot while you wait for it to return to normal.

You can't always be the characters you want, and the limited numbers mean that if your skills are lower then you might not get a chance to play as a special unlock character/jedi.

Overall: Very enjoyable for previous SW:BF fans, and SW fans in general.

The sequel usually doesn't top the original. In this case... it kicks it's a**! You get to fly around in space (the space maps could have been bigger). The hunt mode is really cool to get revenge on the little creatures you may dispise (kill ewoks!). And it's not an all Jedi game, which I worried about. They offer if you want to be a jedi during the game. They are not invincle though. Vader came and I got back up from my troops. Overall: This game tops any other Star Wars game.

Sorry, not as good as the first

Absolutely loved BF1, so I went out and bought this on the first day for PS2. I think they tried too hard, the graphics are too overwhelming therefore jittery and not anywhere close to seamless. The missions seem too complicated and you really have no control on the outcome. Initially I'm thinking this was a waste of $50. It's not nearly as fun to play as BF1.

umm.... wat can i say? great game!

great game! But beware, you will face the unexpected.

this is going to be a short review, but i'll try to make it as effective as i can:

Okay, i went to a birthday party over at gamefrog where i picked up battlefront 2. I beat battlefront within a day with ease especially the fact i'm not a gamer. (may be i was putting battlefront 1 with easy mode) and iexspected to do a lot in battlefront 2 and relive the wonderful days in which i had the time to rent battlefront 1. however, reliving those "wonderful days" were not as expected it to be. this is why:

DIFFICULTY
This game is way harder than the first battlefront. Major improvement if you want a year lasting game (i imagine especially on hard mode). I would rarely get killed in battlefront 1, but after i killed about 2 droids, i would die myself. Droids roll around every where dodging your blaster fire.
Jedis or sith computer characters are either invicible or i stink.

WORLDS:
awsome new worlds such as jedi temple, space battle in corusant (or however you spell it). In space battles, you can either fly a fighter and dstroy other enmy fighters or land in enemy ships and attack inside out.

BAD
i haven't played the game for that long so i haven't encountered anything wrong yet, but so far, i love this game

ADVICE
good, game. Seems to last too. I'd say rent first (as always) and if you like it, buy it.

See You Later Alligator (no offense)

Not as fun as BF1

Sorry, but this game doesn't live up to the original. Vehicles like AT-STs handle a lot worse, don't nearly have enough firepower and can be destroyed easily with grenades. Space combat is totally pointless, with an inexhaustable number of enemy fighters, and capital ship turrets that barely scratch enemy capital ships. (What is with the machine gun sfx?) And Jedi are just way too easy to kill. Plus, the HUD on BF1 was so much more user friendly. And friendly AI seems almost nonexistent, especially when I see groups of my own troops just standing around not even moving. And forget about issuing them any commands. This game just seems way too rushed. Should've slowed it down and put more effort into it boys.

A good game just got a WHOLE lot better!

I got this game a couple of days ago. I feel that this game improves and expands on the first game adding (and subtracting) levels to change the gameplay extremely. The controls and the gameplay is great, and the new space battles took my gameplayers soul. I only think that the space battles could be a lot bigger.

You block with a jedi on the PS2 control by pressing R2 and press it again to unblock.

This is an awesome game

Starwars battlefront II is incredible! it's not like Battlefront one where you can kill 124 people in one game. You actually have to fight. Another thing about it is that you don't have to follow a campaign like all the other shoot-em-up games. you can get right into the fight you want to be in and "cut to the chase". Space battles are ok, but there not absolutly great either. when i got the game the day it came out and played in the space battle, it took me forever to figure out that you had to destroy the shilds. Now that i know everything about it, it isn't half bad. I say it's so worth the money!

Don't fix it if it isnt broken!

Last year we all got the chance to finally take part of the magnificent battles that we saw in the movies. We were all suprised at how cool it really was. There wasn't anything wrong! For once! It had a basic format, and was playable for days on end. It had online support, and even splitscreen. By far and unquestionably, it was the best Star Wars game ever made. Then they decided to make a Battlefront II. I almost hit the ceiling. I was SO excited. If they kept the old formula and just added more, it would be even BETTER! But, then i went out and bought it, and sadly, i was somewhat dissapointed. The gameplay is STILL awesome. Huge battles (and now the option to add more support troops!) were still availabe. Now an even larger Galaxy Domination. More characters and more vehicles and more maps. But what NO ONE is saying is that only a mere couple of the original maps make it into the new game! All the old favorites except Endor Mos Eisly Hoth and two others are left. SO MANY are gone. Yes the new ones are OK, but the old ones were SO good too. Same with the vehicles. A lot of the cool old vehicles (like the two legged walker) are gone! Replaced or just gone. And then the worst, now you have to unlock characters as you play a battle. you cant just choose any you want. And that just isnt cool at ALL. But, im not trying to scare you. Its just a slight change for the old Battlefront crowd. All in all, keep your old copy for sure. There is lots of cool stuff. The jedi are awesome adding a whole new aspect. The space battle is greatly needed (but doesnt compare well to other star wars space games). Even the interface looks different, almost as if the makers didnt finish the game in time so they just scrambled at the end to put together the interface. All in all, if youve never played a Battlefront, you'll love this. But if you loved the first one, youre going to walk away from this missing the original. Im sure ill still love the second too, but it just isnt as good the second time around. hopefully a third will come out, with all the maps, all the vehicles, with all the kinks worked out. I know they can do it. Just one more year.

A huge improvement of the 1st game

Star Wars battlefront 2 and Star Wars battlefront are similarin many ways. But overall, Star Wars Battlefront 2 blows the original version. Here's why.

Levels - Planets: There are some levels that are the same in both games (hoth, Endor, Theed) but most of the levels in Battlefront 2 are completely new. There are levels like the death star, and fellucia, that you'd never see in the first game. There are many other new levels in the game. The only level I wish they hadn't put in the new game is Jabba's Palace because there are monsters everywhere that kill you after about 5 seconds.

Characters: Once again, many of the characters are the same, but there are also many new ones. Also you can be Yoda, han solo, chewbocca, mace windu, darth vader, and obi wan if you get enough kills. In the first game, you could only be soldiers and pilots.

Vehicles: There are many new vehicles as well. Some of the old vehicles are the same but have different weapons and abilities. In this game vehicles can overheat if you use the weapons too fast. The ATATs have 2 weapons instead of 1 in this game.

Overall this is a great game. For those of you wh thought that Star Wars Battlefront was an awesome game, I suggest you buy this game. You might not ever get off.
