I bought the game when I fist came up, and I was very excited. The game is very good, the graphics and everything, but I did think that I would be better. Anyway, you should get this game because you will enjoy it!!

This game was a big disapointment for me. I have been waiting for this game for a long time only to be disapointed with doing the same thing over and over. The only thing that changes in the game is the setting. All you do is fight and then fight and then fight some more. I would not recommend this game to anyone. In fact, I am taking my back tonight and getting a different game!

IT IS OUTSTANDING!!!!

State of Emergency is a game that you SHOULD buy for one main reason;you will eventualy get tired of it,but somewhere down the road you will want to pop it in the PS2 for some blow-off-steam,
massive destruction fun!

Having said that,I will go into further depth with this review.
SoE was made by RockStar, the same company that created the notoriously beautiful Grand Theft Auto 3.It's been said a millon times before in other numerous reviews that SoE is nothing like GTA3.I'm going to acknowledge that and say that it's very true. Don't play SoE and expect it to be like GTA3,it's not,but it's still alot of fun.

This game for the most part is about destroying buildings, blowing up people and creating pure chaos in a riot.(Sound fun huh?-evil grin-)There is a revolution mode, where you attempt to solve the problems of the oppresive forces with indvidual missons
including escorting certain people, finding items, and even a few assasinations. This part of the game gets really frustrating really fast esp on the escorting missions. The people you escort do not defend themselves at all,and when you have a small army hunting you down,it's tough to stick up for a guy with low defense all the time.Another bad thing about revolution mode,is that there aren't alot of good weapons that randomly generate (including guns!)and when you have 10-12 guys with guns, flame throwers and even rocket launchers,a can of mace or a club just ain't gonna cut it!Buy this game to play in chaos mode;that's where the true beauty of this game lies.

One serious downfall with this game is that mostly everything is
"locked".Meaning that all the stages but the first, and all the playable characters but two are unable to be played unless you achieve high scores or pass certain levels in revolution mode. Really bad idea especially if you start the game up for the first time wanting to play as the big,fat ex-gang member!! This can all be solved of course by getting cheat codes off the internet!(Don't you just love cheats!!)Some people complain that there is not a 2 player mode;which IS kinda bad, being the fact that no one really helps you out in the game(some gang members will help you beat up oppressive forces, but alot of the times while you are trying to pummel on the same target, you accidentally punch the guy who's helping you!A gang member won't
take kindly to that!)I think however if a 2 player mode was enabled, there would be a split screen on the tv;one showing where the first player is,and the other showing where the second is.Man,I hate that!So it's really no big deal that there's not a two player mode to me,you might feel diffrently...

Controls are really easy to get familiar with and you will be amazed at how fast the hours fly by when you play in chaos mode!
The music is just typical fighter-game background music;nothing
spectacular, but it's not bad either. All and all,buy this game so
you can play it whenever you want to relieve stress and blow up,
shoot, beat, ignite and completely obliterate some virtual people!
Look up the cheat codes to solve the lack of variety with playable characters(once you enter the cheat codes and save to a memory card, those "locked" players will always be available for you to play with!)

If you like GTA 3 then you SHOULD like this. GTA3 is a more superior game than state of emergency, but State of emergency is more cartoonish and with the different characters and locations and 2 different gameplay modes the replay value is much higher plus the game is a great stress releiver since you can decapitate people with one punch and use numerous weapons to kill inocent people and gang members. Overall this game was what i expected and if u have a open mind u should enjoy it too

If you are listening to these idiotz who say it ... . Well, listen again. The only reason they think it ... is because they are only comparing it to Gta3 (that game is better). This is your average beat 'em up games xcept 2 x better. The best parts are the missions, sure they can get violent but if ur not a chicken, u'll know what I mean. The worst part would probably be the lack of multiplayer. But if you like beat 'em up games w/ missions then put this on your "to buy" list.

I'm in a State of Disappointment!

After playing and thoroughly enjoying GTA3 by Rock Star I was looking forward to another game that played similar. I thought that SOE was going to be a similar type game to GTA3, except with the feature of total destruction of your surroundings and with hundreds of people on the screen at once. And I was right to an extent. You can destroy your surroundings in SOE, and there are loads of people on the screen at once, but it didn't have the same zeal that GTA3 had. SOE played kind of like a Final Fight type game or something. Run around punching and kicking, blowing stuff up, which I know sounds like fun, but it gets old real fast.

Now I realize that my expectations were VERY high after GTA3, maybe way too high to be honest. I guess I figured that this game was going to be like GTA3, except with lots of people on the screen and with the ability to destroy your surroundings. What I got when I put it in was a cartoony free-for-all fight. Sure there are missions to perform, but they seemed uninspired and got boring pretty quickly.

Sure the game is violent, but it's got a cartoony type violence to it. The characters in the game are colorful but not realistic. And this may be another aspect that I was expecting to be more like GTA3, which had a more realistic look and feel to it. Not to say that aspect of the game was bad, just not really my style.

Now I realize that this game is not GTA3, even though I was hoping that it would be just like it. It's just that the game was not what I was expecting at all. Again, I was thinking that it would at least be similar to GTA3, except with lots of people on the screen at once. Which is another thing about the game. Sure it's kind of neat to see that many people on the screen at once, but after a while it gets a bit annoying. Where are all these people going anyways? They just run around and act hysterical, doesn't make much sense. But it's a video game and I suppose it doesn't have to make sense.

For people that plan on buying SOE on the strength of how good GTA3 is, I would say don't. It's not the same game, or even close in my opinion. I would recommend renting it first and see if it's your type of game. I imagine that some will really like the game, I just know it wasn't for me.

Well the good thing I did do was trade the game in for Maximo: Ghosts to Glory and so far I have been real happy with that decision. I should have got Maximo to begin with, but live and learn I guess.

Possibly better than GTA3
