Arcade style beat em up!!!

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 2 / 3

State of Emergency is a simplistic arcade style beat em up game that puts you in large, pedestrian filled environments with mission based objectives such as blowing up store fronts and killing/beating certain people. The game is not deep at all and is really easy to get into. It's the type of game you would play for 30 mins. everyday just for the fun of it! Any longer, and you will get bored though becuz the game as little lasting appeal. Since the game is priced at only [$$], I would recommend it just for it's simple, fun, gameplay!

Great "Bang" for the Buck

...This game is an anarchists dream! The game's premise (not too far off) is that corporations have gradually increased their power to the point where envirnomental concerns are second to growth. The federal government has been disbanded and there is only one corporation left that controls everything (probably Wal-Mart). It's your job to stop them by any means necessary.

The game has several fun modes. Revolution has about 175 missions where you have to stop the Corporation finks and aid the underground in its plans. The missions aren't too long but do require a few tries to complete them, at least at first. The Chaos mode is where this game really stands out. You basically have to create as much mindless havoc as is possible. You can play either timed or unlimited. Smash windows, destroy buildings and cars, kill all gang members and corporation thugs (law enforcement) that get in your way. The more you kill the longer you can continue to play. Another entertaining mode is with Last Clone Standing. The areas are infested with clones and it's your task to exterminate every last one of them. If you've every wondered what's it's like to run through a shopping mall with an AK or an M-16, this mode is for you!

The game has great game play. You can either mix it up with fisticuffs or grab weapons. You can smash, kill or do both. The controls work extremely well. The graphics are great, it's amazing to see hundreds of characters running around on the screen at once.

This game will provide hours of harmless fun, especially for the low price.

oh man...i'm in a mental state of depression, i haven't spoken to anyone in 3 days, i haven't eaten, i've lost sleep and whenever i DO get to sleep, i have nightmares about this game actually being GOOD......but it's NOT!, for the love of GOD, please don't get your hopes up on this major disappoinment, ROCKSTAR has hit the peak with GRAND THEFT AUTO 3, but got shot right back down and got buried TWICE with THIS game, 100+ missions taking at the most 1 minute 30 seconds each, WOW! WE'RE LIVIN ON THE EDGE THERE! WOOOHOOO!....(not)...but ne wayz, i'l admit it....at the beginning it's kinda fun blowing stuff up, using an assortment of weapons......THAT'S IT!....even the storyline [isn't good]! and not to mention the instability of game controls...oh my, this game is SO not for me, no way, a big NO NO for the your collection of 5 star games...i mean, i wouldn't even suggest to RENT this game, i'm sorry....but according to my own personal game fanatic opinion.....THIS GAME [STINKS]! , but that's just ME....go ahead and buy it, it's a free country :)

Nothing like a good old fashioned riot

I don't know what to make of this game. I think the idea is for it to be serious, but I wound up laughing at this game while playing it. You are going against the corporation and all h*ll breaks loose. For that matter, everything breaks loose. The crowd is all rioting by breaking into stores and stealling. You go around with your trusty baseball bat and club people to a nice pulp. But wait till the cops get a hold of you. You won't be a happy camper for long. Basically, the idea is interesting, if not a little warped. But the final verdict is that it is boring to play and has very little story line, if any, to keep you wanting more. I would say I got a few good laughs out of it. You haven't lived until you have seen a town go on a riot rampage. Speaks volumes about how RockStar sees society. Lots of people were looking forward to this game. It is luck that there wasn't a riot after they found out how poor the game was. Good thing I only borrowed the game.

How can I say this...

Please whatever you do--DO NOT waste your money on this game!!! This game is soooo monotonous. I bought it from the store when it first hit the shelves. I got bored with it after about the first 30 mins. I was devastated.
SOE has really nice graphics and control, but the story and replay value are sorely lacking! If you just want to run around aimlessly beating and shooting, then by all means, be my guest. Just don't say that I didn't warn you.

Lame. Thats All I Can Say.

I bought this game thinking it was gonna be like GTA3, they are both published by Rockstar after all. Wrong. This game is nothing like GTA3. I thought you could wander the city as in GTA3. Nope. The game is split into levels. Small ones at that. I cant say for sure tho, i sold the game after playing the first level for about half an hour. This is lame. The controls are too touchy, graphics arent all that great, missions are lame, and there is a timer in chaos mode, so u cant just go around and do whatever u want. Also, from the decriptions, i thought u would be able to break into stores and stuff, nope again, u can break the windows and that is about it. I was thoroughly disgusted with this game. Rockstar should be ashamed of themselves. This has to be one of the worst games i have ever played. Do yourself a favor, and dont buy it.

Total hype and a total disappointment

Those who are interested in buying this game because they enjoyed GTA3 are in for a huge disappointment. GTA3's strengths came in the complete recklessness of the violence and the limitlessness and realism of the environment. State of Emergency however has gameplay which must have been designed with children under 12 in mind: it seems like a big cartoon, with unrealistic ultrafast choppy motion, over-colored surroundings, and goofy announcer-style "Smash windows for extra points!!!" voices. The game play is far more linear than the preview videos would have you believe, and has so many hints along the way that it leads nothing to the imagination. A huge step backwards for Rockstar Games, and one which will make me question 100% before ever buying one of their titles again without renting it first.

Awesome Awesome Game!

I had the chance to play this game demo at E3 last year. Simply its awesome. I have been waiting for it for a year n' finally its gonna come out. The game is similar to GTA3 but more fun n' "CHAOTIC' . If you enjoyed GTA3, this is definitly another must-have for you. Its not a game for kidz. Keep them away. Let the CHAOS begin!

An extreme and realistic game. Just as good as GTA III

The Playstation 2 couldn't have a better line up of games! Rockstar has once again amazed myself and other gamers with this out of control, psychotic game. This is one of the PS2's best and you shouldn't pass it up. If you liked Grand Theft Auto III then i know for a fact you will adora this game just as much! Imagine breaking out a riot in your own mall, or ripping somebodie's arm right off to hit somebody else with it? Pretty amazing right? Even though the graphics don't look amazing, but neither did GTA III's, but now look at it! It is winning Game Of The Year Awards! Go to rockstargames.com and watch some videos of this game...because I know that if you dont have it pre-ordered...you wont be seeing this until July. Even though the graphics don't look amazing, but neither did GTA III's, but now look at it! It is winning Game Of The Year Awards!

This game looks incredible!

Rockstar has outdone itself with State of Emergency! After coming out with great games for the PS2 like Grand Theft Auto 3 and Max Payne this is an incredible addition. Just alone having the ability to attack anyone you want and destroy any building you want sounds really cool. You are also able to interact with the amazing 250 people on the screen at once! When this game comes out in January I am going to be sure to buy it!!
