this is as close as i have come in any of my WW 2 air war simulators to being realistic, you are in the cockpit and see enemy and shot your guns and acctually see them rip into the other air plane, fantastic and holds true to the microsoft flight simulator series with even more realism, i give it 5 stars and recommend if you are a combat sim collector or just player dont miss out on this buy,

well worth the money and hours of fun and diffrent air craft to fly, just great overall

Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 2: Pacific Theater is a really great game! I received this for my birthday, and I love it! Being able to see all the planes in WWII is really interesting. You also are able to takeoff from some famous airfields during WWII. This game does work the best with a joystick, so I would reccomend getting one with this game. You can fly campains where you can be American, Japanese, British, and something else, I can't remember. It is also fun being able to fly when your plane is hit, because it has real life consequences, if you get hit in the engine you see smoke come out and your plane goes slower, etc. You can even eject, but sometimes the paracute doesn't open so then your in trouble! This game would be great for someone that is into history or into airplanes. Overall, this is the best flight simulator that I have ever played.

A heartpounding good time!

If you're a buff of Tora Tora Tora or Midway this sim is a dream come true. The scenery and aircraft are awesome, improved over CFS1.

You will find out that you can still fight and win in the F4F Wildcat against a Zero.

You won't want to lose when there's nothing below but blue ocean and dense jungled islands. The little touches are superb, smoke belching from engines coughing into life, the 'bouncy' landing gear, brass falling out from under the wing, the 'ting' of brass in the cockpit.

This sim will let you find out what it was really like!

DON'T BE SURPRISED!

Now me among thousands of other CFS fans are dying for the release of the Second edition....CFS2 however, DON'T BE SURPRISED if you have to have the same system requirements as the other games Microsoft have recently releast such as... FS2K, FS2K Pro and Crimson Skies, all of which require 10 Ghz. super computers with 516 mb of RAM just to get the intro to run.

I have no idea what Microsoft is tring to prove with these massive programs that can't run properly on average computer systems.

So fair warning... don't be surprised... waiting your heart out only to realize it runs like ... on your average home computer system.

Fun should not be this hard.

Fun should not be so hard on your system. I liked the grahics to a point, but Microsoft needs to enlarge the print when listing the system requirements. Intially the action was pretty good, but the further I got into the game the harder it was on my hardware. The planes are too jerky when in combat. After a week, I went back to the GREAT...Fighter Squadron, the Screaming Demons Over Europe by Activision. Thanks.

Great Game, but crashed TOO often

I recently bought cfs2 and was enthusiastic at first. But BEWARE! If you do not have a fast enough system, this game will crash VERY often. I have a pentium 4, but it still crashes about every 30 minutes of play times. Other than that, the game is realistic, has good planes, and is fun. Five stars WITHOUT the crashes.

Contact-Damage-Crash Modeling Very Weak

Many have given this a thumbs up for realism. However, there is a category of realism which is sorely lacking in this game.

Microsoft would do well to go back and replicate Jane's WW II Fighter's contact, damage, and crash modeling. There is _no_ comparison. With Jane's, planes are segmented into fuselage, cockpit, stabilizer, rudder, engine, and wings.

In Janes, I have seen a plane crash land, and watched it's front end (engine) detach and cartwheel over the landscape. I've seen planes crash land, tear through ground targets, and demolish buildings in their wake. Another gamer said that while in a dogfight with Janes, they had their cowling blown off, and he saw parts in motion under the hood.

THIS is realism. This you won't see in MS Combat Flight Simulator. Simply put, Janes' contact, damage, and crash realism is FAR superior.

Much of MS CFS has great realism. But, in this category of realism, it is VERY poor.

Great game

although I only played it at the AOPA convention it was great! you see and hear the bullets whizzing past the plane, and when you do the external view after your hit you see each and every bullet hole they put in you. you see the same thing on your enemy. Once i blew off a guys wing and it actually falls off and you can see it hit the ground. great graphics...

Microsoft did their best again!

Oh yes they did it! CFS looked best in 1998 now CFS II makes it look like ...!Best looking graphics today, better detailed terrain(no mosaic/repeating ones!) airfields with buildings and vehicles everywhere, seen damage on aircrafts and so on....they did their best for our eyes to enjoy it! But it still lacks...it's impossible to fly in air combat at high graphics... u must have tomorrow's computer to get it run perfectly...but tell me who takes sightseeing tours while in aerial combat? Explore the terrain at high graphics alone but if u want to fight switch to fast graphics and into it....even with these performance lacks its still worth a 5 star sim! One thing left to mention: it has a manual inside which u really can call a manual! Not some sheets of paper like in previous volumes!

This is a great one

I bought a used copy, with some reservations! It was in perfect condition! The graphics are great, if you love WWII Navy planes you'll like "Combat Flight Sim 2" WWII "Pacific Theater". I have several flight sims, this one is my favorite, even better than the newest 2004 version. 5000 feet over the Pacific, you in your Hellcat in command of your squadron against the oncoming foes........write your own ending........
