Dissapoinment

The game's graphics are excellent. At first I thought it would be a pretty good game. Although as the game went on and I beat all 31 missions, I asked myself, "is this it?" I beat the game before I finished gaining enough credits to buy the two best weapons the game had to offer (50,000 and 95,000 credits each). I also beat the game before I received the best ship upgrades the game offered. Most games I played usually has a monster to beat at the end when your weapons and ship is at maximum. This unfortunately did not. If you're into just shoot em up, then this game is for you....however there is no strategy or role playing needed or involved in Armada.

The missions were far too easy to get through, and there were not enough of them. I'm not sure what you could call role playing in this game, considering the only thing you really do is fly around in space shooting weird looking alien ships. All of the screen shots advertising this game come from the intro, the actual ship you control is small and disappointing. You can upgrade your ship by buying equipment with money found from the armada ships you kill. However, to get the really good items you will have to spend many, many hours of playing the same unexciting game that is honestly not worth your time.

Armada is unlike any game you've ever seen before, employing the depth of strategy games like Starcraft and the decent action stages of Atari's classic Asteroids. It's not for everyone, as some of the stages take forever to conquer and worlds aren't as massive as they seem. However, stick with it, and you'll be rewarded with a unique gaming experience, complete with depth and challenge. The four-player action mode is a bonus, too, allowing you to take on friends in combat the way Asteroids should have done. I'm sure refinements will come with the upcoming Armada II, but, for now, this space certainly isn't a bad place to visit.

A massive mistake!

First, don't get me wrong: I love 2D space shooters and RPGs. 'Armada' is a mix of these fine genres, but it's a very poor mix. It fails as a shooter because it has bad controls and poor action; It fails as an RPG because story and characters are never developed.

And here's the most ridiculous thing: this game has no end. That's right: after you beat all missions, you just keep flying on space, fighting the aliens as if nothing had happened. What's the point of beating the game, then?

This may be 'Asteroids' on steroids, but that is not nearly enough to make it actually fun.

This game is SIC!

I dont care what any of you people gotta say about this game. I own a plasma tv, and I got a ps3, so dont tell me what good graphics are. The graphics in this game are sweet, even for this day and age. I loved the fact you could be different alien races and each race had a different power and abilities. I loved them all.

As for you people giving this a one rating,, Ive been playing video games since I was four and Im 26 now, and this is probably one of the games that I remember the most for that time of gaming history. The N64 was sweet too, I own a Wii and I get to play alot of those games still, I just wish that Sega would release some of these classics on for next gen networks cause I would buy all of them.

Trust me, the gameplay is sweet in this game, the only problem is when you play multiplayer and you go opposite directions, then you really cant go anywhere the screen gets stuck, but its easliy dealt with a little communcation. Me and my friends played this game for over a month straight without taking it out of the system, except for the occasional 2k sports and ready 2 rumble. Oh yeah dont forget Marvel vs. Capcom 2, the dreamcast was made for the hardcore gamers who didnt care about being call a nerd, cause you have to admit, gaming back then wasnt considered a cool thing to do. Me and my friends didnt have nothing else to do in a town populated with 5000 people so we played this game on dreamcast.

Flat and boring...don't waste your time or money

I can't believe that a game this shallow actually made it into production for a system such as Dreamcast.

This game is more representative of the old standup arcade games from the 80's than the virtual absorbing games of today.

An extravagantly long game, Armada has ZERO graphical depth and gets boring very quickly.

Armada is fun with great multiplayer too

Armada is a fantastic action/RPG/space shooter that sets you on a mission to destroy the dreaded Armada. You choose your character from a list of several evolved-human races. With easy control and a great multiplayer capabilities, this game is one of the best dreamcast games on the market. The only problem is that its too easy to get through the missions, but luckily the game doesnt end just because you defeat the missions.

This game is great. The graphics and sound are good. Basicly you conytrol a little space ship blowing aliens up and completing missions. The missions are cool but the thing I like nost is just flying around and trying to level up and make tons of cash. When my friends and I get together and play a four player game, it makes the game several times more fun. Don't believe the people that gave this game bad ratings. After reading thier reviews I can obviuosly tell that they didn't even know what they were doing when they played. "There is no RPG elements whatsover," my god people, didn't you realize that you gain XP and levels and can buy items. So don't believe them. Buy this game it is COOL.

disappointing game

If you've seen the screenshots then you know that it's a top-down shooter, much like asteroids. Of course every review touts Armada as an RPG-- but why are all the screenshots of a shoot-em-up-space-action game? Because that IS the game.

It's not like Star Control! It's not like the other Star ... game where I learned the word obsequious!

I think there's a rumor that this game was written with sega's online multiplayer network in mind and that's part of why it sucks. (since there is no online network)

As disappointed as I was with NBA2K, go play that instead.
