To give you guys a better perspective on Armada, Let me tell you guys this..., I am just a causual pick-me-up-put-me-down gamer. I don't care much for seasons on sport games, nor do I care much about unlocking all the different costumes and art work on Soul Calibur. I don't know how many other people are like me, but for those who are... this review may help you decide on this game. I'm loving this game. I'm actually using my VMU to save more than just game configurations! Can you believe it! The controls are a bit difficult at first, but you'll be able to adapt pretty quickly. First off, this game reminds me of SubSpace, for those who never heard of it, it's pretty much like a multiplayer Asteroids type game. Add in a story-line. (which I don't care much for hehe) And you got yourself a time wasting game called Armada. The multiplayer action is awesome. My friends, who are very casual gamers, those who don't own a console, even enjoys this game. It's fun taking up all the credits for yourself. Take a look at this game, definite sleeper hit of the year. And for those who JUST want a pick-me-up-then-put-me-down kinda game.. Avoid this at all cost. Because you won't be able to -put-me-down-.

This is a very well done bame and is extremely easy to learn. I recommend this item for older users though. Some concepts and ideas are a bit extensive for younger players. THis game should make a name for itself on the Dreamcast

This game is very good..the replay value is excellent althought the graphics aren't really that great, but it's up there. There are 6 races to choose from each with its own power and weakness and you make your character whoever you want it to be and also the story, you can follow the mission objectives or just explore and do other optional objectives out there...there are different worlds you can visit and should keep notes of some coordiantes because some of them might be clues, the space in this game is huge, it's just like you keep going and going. You can also have a wingman to help you out.

This is mixed with Asteroids and Wing Commander. this is a space-shooter with RPG elements, you can upgrade, buy parts to your ships , levels, and experience.

There are up to 4-players in this game (co-op) and all four, three, two can help beat the game....i heard this game has around 100 hours of gameplay and even though you beaten it, there's still more to explore.

I was completely surprised at how complex yet enjoying the gameplay is. You fly around and shoot alien spacecraft for exp and credits. Ally ships fly to you, as you talk to them, they'll follow you and help you out. Distress signals from other ships requiring help. Different worlds to explore, different shops scattered around, wormholes, different upgrades and powerups. TONS ssions! Lots of different BIG bosses.

One of the most strangely addicting games ever!

Armada. Many Dreamcast owners know this game as a space shooter that was orignally going to be released on September 9( Oh, what a glorious day that was! ), but got delayed until December. I never even thought about getting this game, but I was bored one weekend so I went and rented it. What came next was a weekend of me being locked in me room with barely any sleep. This is one game you can just dive right into. The controls take so getting used to, the sound is okay, and the graphics are nothing to call home about, but this game is fun as all heck. The game is LONG, but it can be so fun. You start by picking from one of six species. This will determine your characteristics. I prefer the Drakan. This game is set up almost like an RPG. As you kill guys you gain experience and with experience comes level ups. Every four levels you get a new ship. Level four is relatively easy to get to, but it takes forever to go higher. I am currently on level 14, and that took hours and hours of just level building and not completing missions. You start on one planet, talk to guys, get a mission from them, complete mission, and repeat. Sounds boring, but this game gives me a rush. If you travel into deep space using warp drives, you find some really hard enemies. Plug in four controllers and have an all out war. All characters and gain levels and be saved. On interesting this is that you have 3 lives, and when you lose them you are returned to base. However, if you have more than 1 person, only player 1 can lose lives. The rest can keep dieing until player one dies. Cool indeed. You can follow directions to shops and buy much need upgrades. You can escort ships for money. I've heard that when you get well over level 20, you get a HUGE ship ugrade, but that takes time. I can't get over this game. It rules. A must have! Armada: The Best Game You're Not Playing

Yeah, the magazines weren't exactly adding this one to their must-have lists for the Dreamcast's first Christmas season. And yeah, it is powered by Windows CE, something that makes a lot of gamers I know itch. So what does this rather unassuming game have to offer a DC player who's expecting the next Soul Calibur or NFL2K? Actually, it offers a little bit of both ...

For starters, the gameplay is pretty good. The instructions don't document "exactly" how to turn your ship (you point the analog pad in the direction you want to go ... kinda like Time Pilot for you other old-schoolers out there), but once you're beyond that, you'll be navigating the universe in style. And what a universe it is! Lots of places to explore, two ways to win the game (one for war-mongers, one for explorers), and loads of random missions help take you to places you may not have been before. In other words, addicting gameplay and plenty of replay value keeps you coming back (like Soul Calibur).

And then there's multi-player. Drag in up to three of your buddies and take your best shot at the Armada onslaught. Its easy-to-learn controls (once you learn about the flying) and its retro-style play (there's another reference to Asteroids) gives Armada excellent party-game potential. More than, say, NFL2K, which may be pretty to look at, but it has a steeper learning curve than Armada.

Which is not to say Armada doesn't have its downsides. The biggest one I've found is its game save routine. The VMU file is copy-protected (colored in red when viewed on the DC's File Menu), so you can't transfer your save from one VMU to another. Even worse, if you load your game save into Armada then swap out VMUs in order to copy it to another one, the game completely freezes and will not restart until you restore the original VMU to its proper location. If you lose your game save, you've got to start *ALL* over!

Gripes about game-saves aside, Armada deserves more credit than it has gotten with its multiplayer mode, its engaging story and its retro appeal. Let's just hope Armada 2 (if there is one) adds in the final piece of the puzzle--online play.

Armada-A must have for your DC collection

I was a little apprehensive at first to dish out almost fifty bucks for this game but after doing extensive web research on the game I decided to purchase the game. Let me tell you that the money spent was VERY worthwhile. Although the game is a top-down shooter, it gives you RPG qualities that give you people to talk to and missions to take/leave. Allowing for your choice from 6 races adds to the replay value as well as my favorite, the co-op mode. Taking on a Big-Boss is pretty hard

by yourself, so the co-op mode really shines here. No lack of Armada ships in this game; there are more than enough for you and your friends. A great game that is truly under-rated.

Ever heard of a game called Escape Velocity?

Well I must say that from the various Dreamcast review sites I've checked out, this game is probably the ultimate Dreamcast sleeper. At this rediculously cheap price any Dreamcast owner worth his salt should pick this beauty up. However, for those of you who also happen to own a Mac computer, you might be excited to know that Armada bears a striking resemblance to a masterpiece called Escape Velocity by Ambrosia software. This little known game (in the PC world anyway) actually created this addictive style of gameplay, and is shareware to boot! Go to www.ambrosiasw.com to check it out. Regardless though, please don't pass on this game because of it's lack of 3D graphics and seemingly old-style gameplay. It's actually a refreshing game that involves you like no other (with perhaps the exception of Escape Velocity) and will leave with a silly grin on your face as you realize that you picked this up for a mere twenty bucks. ;-)

I just recently bought Armada without even renting it because of all the good reviews it has gotten, and i must say i am VERY HAPPY with it. The graphics are excellent as well as the depth and replay value. It is also a lot of fun with more than 1 person. This game lets you roam freely throughout planets and space letting you do what you want to do, and really just sitting around and destroying other ships is a lot of fun! It does have RPG elements in the game but mainly you are to blow up the bad guys with a little bit of strategy. All together this is a wonderful game worth buying the instant you see it.

This is the best game I have played in a long time. I like RPG's and I also like shooters and this game does both splendidly. It has my vote for sleeper of the year.
