Great game

This is a very well done bame and is extremely easy to learn. I recommend this item for older users though. Some concepts and ideas are a bit extensive for younger players. THis game should make a name for itself on the Dreamcast

Armada is a good game for people who enjoy growing a character (RPG-style) and new game types. My brother and I both thought it felt like playing Ultima On-line, sort of. It is not an on-line game, but I read somewhere that it was supposed to be but Sega had some problems getting the on-line part of Dreamcast ready in time. I would give it 4 stars if it had on-line play. The graphics are just ok but not great. I much prefer Soul Calibur graphics. Armada is very cool in terms of being non-linear like original NES Zelda, multiplayer, and easy to play for many hours (though my little brother plays much more than I do). It is fun to keep playing because when you die, you still keep all the money and items but you appear back where you started. The story is pretty good but there are some words I do not understand. I like all the voices of the people on the planet where you start. The voices change when you finish quests. I actually like this game second best (not as much as Soul Calibur). I am glad the game is original and interesting.

This game is very good..the replay value is excellent althought the graphics aren't really that great, but it's up there. There are 6 races to choose from each with its own power and weakness and you make your character whoever you want it to be and also the story, you can follow the mission objectives or just explore and do other optional objectives out there...there are different worlds you can visit and should keep notes of some coordiantes because some of them might be clues, the space in this game is huge, it's just like you keep going and going. You can also have a wingman to help you out.

This is mixed with Asteroids and Wing Commander. this is a space-shooter with RPG elements, you can upgrade, buy parts to your ships , levels, and experience.

There are up to 4-players in this game (co-op) and all four, three, two can help beat the game....i heard this game has around 100 hours of gameplay and even though you beaten it, there's still more to explore.

A Must Try

Armada is the game most Dreamcast owners have been waiting for: it's not a fighting game or a driving game and you can play it for hundreds of hours without finishing it. This is the closest thing to an RPG the Dreamcast will get this year, so RPG fans will enjoy it. As far as the graphics go, it is definitely 128-bit, but the graphics aren't huge like Soul Calibur. It is very clean and colorful and the nebula effects are cool. Control-wise, it took me a few minutes to get used to the controls (with the thin instruction manual and all) but once you play for a little while, it becomes intuitive and perfectly suited for the game. I haven't gotten too deep into the storyline, but thinking of what might happen makes me want to play it more everyday--and you can't say that about most Dreamcast games. For replayability, you have 6 races, multiple slots to save games and characters to, and the ability to THINK FOR YOURSELF -- you decide if you want to take on a mission, you decide which races you want to help, you decide if you want to take on the big bad guys or hightail it back to earth. I do suggest that you play it in parties and such. The four-player mode is incredible and becomes a free-for-all Asteroids game like in the old days.

Great graphics, awesome gameplay, and the missing Dreamcast element: Story. Try it. It was the best money I've spent in a long time.

This is the best game I have played in a long time. I like RPG's and I also like shooters and this game does both splendidly. It has my vote for sleeper of the year.

Rough Around The edges, But Very Fun Nonetheless

Having only recently started playing the game, I thought it would be interesting to share my views. I would agree with other reviewers here that Armada is something not seen before on the Dreamcast - or perhaps on any other console. Its unique attributes are both its greatest strength and (initially) its greatest weakness. If you purchase this game, don't give up after 30 minutes of play time. What at first seems impossible and illogical gradually becomes intuitive. The developers would have been better off providing a more detailed manual or perhaps a tutorial system ,but for those gamers who enjoy learning and exploration, Armada should provide a joyous experience.

Armada-A must have for your DC collection

I was a little apprehensive at first to dish out almost fifty bucks for this game but after doing extensive web research on the game I decided to purchase the game. Let me tell you that the money spent was VERY worthwhile. Although the game is a top-down shooter, it gives you RPG qualities that give you people to talk to and missions to take/leave. Allowing for your choice from 6 races adds to the replay value as well as my favorite, the co-op mode. Taking on a Big-Boss is pretty hard

by yourself, so the co-op mode really shines here. No lack of Armada ships in this game; there are more than enough for you and your friends. A great game that is truly under-rated.

DreamCast goes RPG

I've only had the game a couple of days so this is an initial impression review. The first night I actually fired up the game, I got so wrapped up in the story, completion of my missions, and development of my spaceship, I played from 8pm to 4am. And this from a person that hated shoot 'em up games like Doom and Duke Nukem. The game's premise is its 10,000 years in the future. People from Earth have spread throughout the galaxy and have evolved into six distinctly different subspecies. You get to pick from one of these. The Armada is bent on the distruction of all and any forms of humanity - know one knows why. Your job is to join the defense forces against the Armada. Seems like a shoot 'em up game right? Well, the game also gives hints that there's a possibility that you could communicate and perhaps make peace with this relentless enemy. The space area seems to be endless. The are planets and nebula and galaxies to discover and explore where their might be clues to defeat or make peace with the Armada. Like I said, I just got it and its going to be fun. The graphics are pretty good, not excellent but very good. Its easy to learn the basics but figuring out the details will take time (be prepared to keep notes).

disappointing game

If you've seen the screenshots then you know that it's a top-down shooter, much like asteroids. Of course every review touts Armada as an RPG-- but why are all the screenshots of a shoot-em-up-space-action game? Because that IS the game.

It's not like Star Control! It's not like the other Star ... game where I learned the word obsequious!

I think there's a rumor that this game was written with sega's online multiplayer network in mind and that's part of why it sucks. (since there is no online network)

As disappointed as I was with NBA2K, go play that instead.

Armada is a really great game. All the internet reviews said it wasn't that good, but i think it depends on who plays it that determines how good it is. The worst part about this game is the graphics, and they don't even look that bad, they just don't wow people like soul calibur did. the best part of this game is how they mixed the genres together. Shooter, rpg, action, drama, they're all here. this is a really great game. get it if you like rpgs, shooters, or want to start.
