Checkpoints

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 0 / 0

As with most of the next gen games, I am sick and tired of set checkpoints. I want to save, when I want to save, not at some arbitrary point that forces me to replay the entire section 50 times, before the game finally auto-saves. Other than this frustration, this was an excellent game that held my interest. After 20 years, and too many bad games, I was pleased with the regen of Dino Hunter, and I will recommend the game to anyone

Not Bad at All!

Dears,
This game is not bad at all. I have played both the campaign and online multiplayer modes and both are nice. Yes this may not be as nice as Gears of War or Call of Duty 4, but it is just fun to play in both modes. The story is interesting and makes you that you want to finish it, and the online gives you a great challenging players and game types.

Very fun game, good delivery by amazon, great condition

I got this game very quickly, and enjoyed it very much. It was interesting to see the evolution of this title from the Super Nintendo all the way up to the Xbox360. Overall, this game is worth the money.

I like the weapons in this game and the cool enviroments and Dinosaurs. I dont like how theres no blood when you shoot at the soldier guys. It is an M rated game... but whatever. Also the controls are kindof goofy and its really annoying when you keep on getting bumped over.

Glad I rented this vs buying it...

Ever see a movie trailer and think to yourself "maybe I'll wait until it comes out on DVD and rent it rather than paying to see it in the theater"? Well, after playing this game, I feel safe in saying that this one is one that I wish I had missed.

First the good, the graphics are really nice and the characters seem pretty solid as well. The fact that you can kill a dinosaur easier with a knife than you can an automatic weapon, while strange, is kind of cool. OK, that's about it for the good...
I'll skip the minor bad and go straight for the really bad so save space.

The game starts off safe enough, new guy appears on a military spaceship bound for some planet, looking for a "rouge leader". Suddenly, missle attack and the ship is going down. After crashing landing on the planet, only Turok and one other soldier is alive, at least at this point. You are on a planet with dinos and bad guys running around. Everything seems to go down hill from here. Now I like a challenge in a game, I have been through GRAW2, Assassins's Creed, Devil May Cry 4, and all 3 Halos. I like figuring out how to clear an area or how to get the best tactical advantage to advance in the game. However, after playing this game I started to use it for a frisbee. The battles in some cases have no clear ending, you clear the area, start to advance and a whole new group of guys come storming in. After the 3rd or 4th wave and several hundred rounds, if you are lucky enough to be alive, you MIGHT be able to advance if some guy wasn't hiding the whole time and blows up a barrel near you and takes you out. The check points are spaced so far apart that if you are being careful and taking slow movements so as to stay in hiding, it possible to start at a point, play for nearly an hour, get popped by someone you never even saw coming and go right back to the same starting point. Frustration SHOULD be part of the experience in a shooter like this, I agree, but at some point the frustration should be accompanied with catching a break, like putting more check points in the environment. The aiming on this game is really terrible. You have to try to bump the stick back and forth to get dead on the target while he and three of his friends are all shooting you. You know you are getting in trouble when things start going fuzzy and you have a hard time seeing. This is your health guage. A bar, or dial, a beep or something would be better. When you are fighting off the 3rd or 4th wave of soldiers to come into an area and you have already picked up all the spare ammo and you are doing your best to finish the area, your vision blurring a bit isn't a real clear indication of how much more you can take before you die.

In a nutshell, if you are despirate for something to add to your gamerang or gamefly que, this one might be ok, but I wouldn't recommend spending the $60 they are asking for it. Give it a couple weeks, I am sure you'll find plenty of these in the used game stores... assuming that people don't toss the whole thing in the trash to prevent the embarrassment that they purchased it in the first place.

Great title

The game was a lot of fun in multiplayer, although the melee attack was only effective when the 'icon' appeared to use it. If you miss, then you're left very vulnerable while you watch your arm do a slow downward stab. The A.I. is just that, and very effective. I would find myself reloading checkpoints just to see what different reactions dinosaurs and humans had to each other, what I did, and the environment. If you go through and end up dying and restarting your checkpoint, don't expect the exact same scenario. Sure, some of the guys will go to the same place they wee before, but some will be in a different place and react in a new way.
The length of the game was average, and whatever difficulty you play it on it will always challenge you.
I did not like the acheivments in the game. They are great, don't get my wrong, but I am ig on getting the acheivements in the game. It's like an added bonus to the game that microsoft has put onto the xbox. However, I am at a place where playing online gives me a 1-3 second delay, and it is nearly impossible to kill anyone. That said, most of the acheivements are online multiplayer ones, and how am I supposed to get them if it won't even let me into the game because my connection is so horrible? This was my biggest heartbreaker.
My other big heartbreaker is again with the online play. Since I couldn't play online some friends and I tried to get a game going through a local network, and this couldn't happen either. There had to be that connection with exbox live to eve play multiplayer. Why can't more games look to Halo for the multiplayer style? It's easy and great. We can play Halo until our hearts content.
Other than that, it is a fun game with a decent story line and some really cool weapons. And it wouldn't be Turok if you didn't have a bow and arrow. I found myself spending hours just pinning people to walls, I would have to say that is my addiction in the game. That's why I would have to give this game four arrows out of five.

My son requested this game for his birthday and was checking the mail daily for it to arrive. Barely got into the house and he was already playing. I don't think I saw him for at least two hours. This is a very popular game in our house.

No hype - just fun

This game has received many negative, undeserved comments. I would like to clear the air and say that I had a blast playing it. The weapons are very cool and original, unlike many of the other FPS on the market. I think the game has stayed very true to it's roots, kill dinosaurs and maniacs. The creators have managed to make one more Turok game without it feeling like a remake. I wish this could be said for many of the other FPs games that just keep repeating themselves ( Tom Clancy could take a lesson in this department ).

The game play and controls are some of the best, and I have played all the big name FPS games. The knife kills take the melee attacks to a new level. The enviroments and backgrounds alone make the game worth playing. The A.I. will keeep you constantly moving, no more getting comfortable and picking your shots. You will have to think while you fight.

The designers have clearly made a huge effort to stay away from the standard FPS format and really paid off. This game made me remember why I love video games.

Can you say disappointment?

O.K. so I don't know why I trusted the commercials for this. I almost always take ANY commercial with a grain of salt. But something about dinosaurs and Native American bloodlines on a next gen system sent my imagination into an overload of hope and potential. First and for most, the only thing in this game that looked remotely decent were the dinosaurs. And even then they didn't look as good as a next gen console should. The humans in the game were looking like something off my original Xbox. Pathetic. Then comes game play. Throughout the beginning of the game (which is all I played) I had no feeling of any freedom of where to go. I felt very much like I was in a heard. Then when you fight the dinosaurs, and they get close enough you have to hit a couple buttons to do some "fatality" type move. It happens WAY to often. and gets boring right quick. I ended up trading in the game cause I couldnt take the repetitive nature and the sub par graphics.
