Turok is back, for better or worse

Remember Turok: Dinosaur Hunter? One of the original launch titles way back when for the Nintendo 64, Turok enjoyed a solid series of FPS' over the next few years, and then just vanished (mainly thanks to then publisher Acclaim going under). Well, Turok is back in action and in familiar settings, as he takes on baddies, mutants, and of course, dinosaurs. The game gets off to a great start as you are fully engulfed in Turok's dangerous environments, but sadly it doesn't take too long to see just what all Turok has to offer. The redundant enemies, areas, and an overall feeling of the linear are fully on display with Turok, which offers little in the way of surprises after you first put some time into the game. Graphically speaking, Turok gets the job done, but you'll play far better looking FPS' on the XBox 360, and the texture glitches don't help the cause here either. Flaws aside, Turok has a fair share of good points as well: the game's musical score is fantastic, there is a very nice assortment of weapons and are implemented quite well, the dinos look and sound good, and co-op and multiplayer options are solid. All in all, you'll certainly play better FPS', but for what it's worth, Turok is a fun, albeit flawed, shooter that is better than the sum of its parts.

A Decent Game 6 Years Ago

I really wanted to like this game....

To me this game wasn't fun at all. The movements are slow and awkward; There are times when you are being attacked and you can't even tell where it's coming from, mostly due to clumsy, plodding controls that don't allow you to react as quickly as you would like. The graphics to me were far from 'next gen'; While very creative in theory, the graphics are often muddy and not very well defined(esp. when compared to a game like 'Drake's Fortune' or even 'Far Cry', which both had great jungle look to them...). The creatures are cool, but you are often outnumbered...and with the sub par controls, you're usually dead meat. I have been playing FPS's for a long time, and while I'm not the best, I'm def not a novice. I know when I died because of my idiocy and when I died because of a control issue. This doesn't even control as well as games from 4 or 5 years ago, like 'DOOM 3', 'Return to Castle Wolfenstein; Tides of War', and 'Killzone'. I guess I just found this really boring and not up to snuff. I didn't really care about the story, and the action was more annoying than fun. I don't understand why this game wasn't made into the game it could have been. Hard to believe no one spoke up and said 'Hey, this isn't good enough...'. Or maybe they did, and were promptly fired. Play at your own risk; A rental at best.

Always offer an embedded multi player!!! Unlike Turok.

My young son couldn't wait to continue our tradition of Turok starting back with the great Nintendo 64 titles, so imagine my chagrin when I immediately found that the only multi-player choice for this game was xbox LIVE. Give us a break guys. Always offer a multi-player choice...always.

Wow. I guess they figure the graphics are a bit updated so they can pass it off as a cutting edge PS3 issue for the New Year. Bzzt! This is a straight terrible game. All you have to do is play the demo, don't bother with the game if you are really that interested. Game itself is nearly worse. RFOM like controls, another game I thought was very dissapointing. Sound is like voice overs, doesn't match the action. I was bored killing dinosaurs after about 2 kills but I went on so I could give it a proper chance. Your partner in the game, your guide throughout the maps has archaic, unatural 2D movements. I've been dying to rent Uncharted what 1st or 2nd best game for the PS3 for ages yet it's never in, one copy everywhere, sometimes none, yet they have like 4 copies of Turok at every Blockbuster. Like sticking a knife in my side, this game is an embarrasment. They should pay us $60 to play the demo. Shame on you Turok developers!

Great game!

Great return to form by the dinosaur hunter. This is one of the best games for Xbox 360 with a strong single player and even better multiplayer. If you expect it to be exactly the same as the old games, you will be disappointed. But if you give it a chance you will find an amazing game with a great story, phenomenal graphics and amazing dinos. Buy it!

I actually dig the game...

Compared to top-notch FPSs like Halo and Bioshock, Turok doesn't measure up. However, if you take Turok for what it is, it's, in my opinion, a good game.

Gameplay could be better but it's at least satisfactory. Expect to die fairly frequently but Turok is not a run-and-gun game; you have to plan your attack (which is why you have stealth weapons like the bow and knife). The dual-wielding of almost every weapon helps in the harder parts. Personally, I like my enemies to be a little hard to kill, no one or two-shot kills. Turok delivers this (sometimes a bit over-the-top, like when you're fighting several enemies at once). Once again, Turok doesn't compare to top-tier games like Halo, but it's pretty high second-tier. Once you get the gameplay down it's exciting and action-packed.

The graphics and storyline impressed me (and I'm used to graphics-heavy games like Gears of War). The voice acting is great without exception and the visuals for the most part are really good.

After reading mixed reviews about Turok, I rented it and had a blast. I'll be buying it as soon as I can to continue the carnage, hah.

Turoks back!

This game is great and the best in the series. Good graphics, story and voice overs are awesome.Controls might seem a bit sluggish to so called gamers that complain and gripe about no auto aim. It really isn't that hard to aim and control. It's not Cod4 (best FPS controls ever)but it's not that difficult to shoot and aim. One of the best action adventure games I played in awhile. This game is challenging and I'm playing it on normal. Been awhile since a good game came out that's challenging.(Ninja Gaiden anyone)? I'm actually having more fun in the story mode on Turok then I did in Cod4.

My only problem is the sound effects from the weapons and online play. Seems the servers are having problems at the moment. Other then that this is a great game and worth the money. If your having second thoughts on Turok rent it first. I think Turok is going to be the most underated game this year. Love it or Hate Turok is back.

I enjoyed it!!

This game is not too bad at all. I would have given it three stars if I wasn't playing on 720p-1080p. I originally purchased the ps3 version, then brought it back due to the controllers. The xbox 360 controllers are closer to the n64. Ending was somewhat disappointing, but the gameplay and movement thanks to the unreal engine were good. Overall if your a turok fan get this if your not only get this if you have an hdtv or flatscreen that renders 720-1080p.

Sadly not the game I expected

I play Shooters religiously, Rainbow 6 Vegas, COD 4, Gears of War are arguably some of the best shooters around. And yes, Halo 3 was good as well. I remember seeing the Turok game for the first time many years ago and being captured by the overall gameplay and of course the weapons. But this time around it doesn't live up to the hype. The graphics are not what you would expect for a next generation game, no where near COD4. Also, any game that doesn't offer a full Co-op story mode gets a negative notch from me. If Halo is one of the biggest selling shooters of all time, everyone should use the features they offer as the blueprint to build on, like full co-op story mode. Sadly I'll be taking this game back and will buy Army of Two instead.

Great game!!!
