Ok lets start by how i found out about this game... I spent the weekend at my cuzins house and he took it out or the cabinet and turned it on.. From that moment on i was addicted... there wasnt a moment in the day where i wasnt eating, sleeping, or playing the game. I actually walked away from his house with bags under my eyes. I told him i was gonna by it... I went home and called some local video game stores.. then one told me about a special they were having... trade in 3 dreamcast games and get Tony Hawk Pro Skater free... It sounded like a rip off but i went to my room and looked for 3 games i didnt like or didnt play or have beaten... I ended up with Expendable, Psychic Force 2012, and Slave Zero... i was a little hesitant when i was turnin em in... but i went home and turned on the game... now all i can think of is... Waht games did i give away again? This is definetly the best game i have ever played... in fact i am only taking a 5 min. break... this is gonna be a long nite.... the graphics are the best I've ever seen, and the Tricks... OH GOD THE TRICKS! there are millions of different combos and specials to pull off... I have the most fun in free skate mode where i have no time limitations... Trust me.. u wont miss the $

I have never been on a skateboard before in my life, but I fell in love with this game the minute I popped it in. There's nothing quite like nailing five 900's in the Portland Asphalt Annihilation (sp.?) tournament. All the missions and skaters give it good replay value and the multiplayer modes give you reason to play long after you've conquered the single-player game. I'm not even remotely interesting in skateboarding, but this is one of my favorite games of all time. Buy it!

Great Game!

I got this game 3 days ago and I love it. The 2 player modes are awesome. The single player modes are good as well. Plenty of hidden characters and levels to send you coming back for more. Go get this game now!

This game really stinks because it has no point to it. You would be better off having Tony Hawk 2, 3, or 4 for other sytems. It is a better use of money.

best skateboard game ever?

you bet. Tony Hawk is probably the best sports/action titles i have ever played. I've been playing games since the days of pong and this one just put a gun to my head and blew me away. Graphically, this version of the game will never be outdone(sorry sony, but the ps2 version just wont even begin to compare to this). The control is so precise it's scary. You can actually perform three tricks in a row and your skater will attempt all three even if he knows he's going to bail. My heart goes out to Crave Entertainment for porting over this skating gem. After playing this at e3, i'm still salivating. Ican't wait for Mag Force Racing and Ultimate Fighting Championship. Congratulations Crave, you know what you're doing better than companies who have been in the industry since gaming began. Peace.

Wow, Tony Hawk Pro Skater has got to be THE greatest and most addictive game I have ever played. I have my friends over to watch movies one night, show them the game, intending to only let them play for a few minutes...end up playing for SEVEN hours straight, having competitions and seeing who can pull off the greatest tricks and feats. The graphic capability in this game is unlike anything I've ever seen, you actually feel like you're bailing when Hawk or any of the other pros crash land into something. And the feeling when you pull off a trick you've been working on forever is great! I recommend this game to anyone that wants to get the most out of a game and is up to the challenge of enjoying countless hours of gaming. Enjoy!

THPS is a great example of how to do a tricks-focused boarding game. Its simple, yet powerful gameplay system combined with creative and detailed levels along with an adequately large cast of characters offers a near-perfect balance to the game.

Unlike its fellow Dreamcast boarding game Trickstyle, THPS doesn't suffer from the split-personality tricks/racer problem that can plague boarding games. THPS is clearly a tricks game and makes no bones about this fact. The system is fairly simple. You have 3 kinds of tricks: flips, grabs, and grinds. The point values of tricks are calculated by taking a sum of the simple tricks done (say, a kickflip to a 50-50 grind to a method grab) and multiplying by a sum of the number of tricks done in the combo, and the number of rotations done. At first, your easiest points simply come from doing a single grab and rotating in the air as much as you can, but the scoring engine penalizes repetition, so you'll have to end up really using some variety to score the big numbers.

The levels in the game are very well done, offering creativity and detail not only in visual settings, but the physical layout, allowing for the potential to chain together monstrous numbers of tricks if you're good enough. Not only that, but special bonuses exist for jumping from one place to another, allowing for even bigger opportunities.

The biggest drawback to the game I found was that of depth. While the existence of a wide variety of characters might seem to provide quite a bit, the problem is that every character converges upon the same ideal set of stats, so while if you didn't get stat increases it'd be interesting, you just end up playing very similar characters with different costumes. While it's understandable why the designers would want things to work that way, it'd be nice to have the final sets of stats for characters vary a bit more to add more variety.

I think of myself as intelligent buyer, so I had to buy THPS the first day it came out. The glowing reviews and my experiences of playin it on the PS convinced me it was a must buy. The revved up graphics and tight gameplay i experienced when I turned on my DC were a joy, they make the PS version look crap. The only problem was how much my thumbs hurt when I FINALLY put the controller down. The learning curve is steady, if short-lasting. You will probably master the game within a week. However, the big payoff of THPS are the 2-player features. These games have seeming infinite replay value. Whether my friends and I are playing a good old game of our version of "horse" or pullin off some mad tricks on the halfpipe, THE FUN NEVER STOPS. This game can easily compete with Super Smash or Goldeneye for multiplayer value, and I'm sure I will play the 2 player games long after I'm bored with the actual game, just for the thrill of crushing a helpless newbie or facing off against a seasoned THPS veteran. Can't wait for THPS 2!

the best game EVER made
