Cool, but really difficult!

I had high hopes for this game. The graphics are good, with a great "larger than life" scale. But if you are buying this for a kid, he or she better be a graduate of Top Gun or they're going to have a hard time getting very far in the game.

It is a lot of fun in 2 player mode, but single player is almost too hard to be fun.

A MAD CRAZY GAME FOR ANYONE LOOKING FOR FUN

This game is so crazy u will get hooked the second u pick up a controller. it's exclusively for the dreamcast so if u have any doubts about it, this is a good reason to buy one.this game is so awesome u will always want to know what's next.u don't have to do every mission on the game, it gives u freedom to beat only the amount u need. The game has worlds that are rooms (children's bedroom, attic, cellar, ect.).u have 2 missions at the beginning of each room where u have to beat it to open the other missions in that world. u have to complete 4 of the 6 missions in each room. the missions are tasks such as put the eggs in the pot and turn on the stove to boil them. u only get a certain amount of vehicles and can use them anyway u want.there is a boss for each room and has already set a record for each mission and u beat the mission by completing it quicker than the boss has. once u beat 4 missions in that room u fight the boss.u use pencils and pen caps and then markers for missles, erasers and white out for bombs, and tacs for mines. YOU NEED TO GET THIS GAME

When I first saw this game it looked like a children game, but after reading some reviews I noticed that didn't look that bad, so I gave it a try. You basically go through a bunch of missions as various different new toys and try to defeat assorted older toys. Now, you may not find this fun, But I did and I'm 16. The whole Game took me about 1 week to beat. But, it also has a pretty cool multi-player mode. You get to play as everything from Jeeps to Jets to Bulldozers to Alien Spacecrafts. I would suggest this game to any one looking for some short term fun.

Fun for a while, but gets tedious

When I first played this game I thought it was fantastic, and in some ways it is. For instance, there are some well designed missions such as attacking heavily armed bases made up of serial boxes and some good rescue missions, plus it looks pretty good too. Unfortunately for every well designed mission there are one or two frustrating and boring ones. Examples of these include searching a two story house to find some cockroaches to squash and searching a huge open room simply looking for some static toy soldiers to shoot down. It was these kind of missions that ended up making me give up let the game gather dust. The difficulty level is also quite uneven in that it starts out easy, then becomes tough, easy again, then extremely tough, then easy again and so on.

This review probably sounds more negative than it should. Some people will have the patience to put up with the tedious missions to get to the good ones, but personally I felt like putting my fist through the TV screen after a while.

Your choice.

This is one of my favorites for the Dreamcast yet! Highly recommended, a good blend of innovation, challenge, and presentation. It takes awhile to pick up, but once you get the hang of it, it is very cool. There are lots of missions, but this is also one of the few games where I have fun trying the missions over and over to beat my score. This really adds to replay value.

The best Dreamcast game yet!

This game is incredible! Everything in the game is nearly perfect.. the graphics are incredible, the control is tight (the vehicles handle the way you'd think real toys would handle) and the difficulty is just right. A lot of reviews have said that the difficulty is uneven -- that you'd finish a really difficult mission and then go to an extremely easy one. Well I think that is good, actually, since you can choose the easy missions in a particular room to get you ready for the hard ones. Anyway, this game is as close to perfect as an Dreamcast game yet. It's long, too.. I've been playing it almost nonstop since I got it a week ago and the end is nowhere in sight. I'd highly recommend Toy Commander to anyone!

challenging but fun

I do not recomend this game to anyone under 8 years old. It has cheat codes and it's full of action. It sounds like an all shooting game and looks like one on the cover but it's a mind game too. The two player mode is awsome and the controlls are easy on both modes. So if you want to be challenged and shoot some toys at the same time by this game.

A Forgotten Toy...

Toy Commander was a little game released by Sega a few months after the Dreamcast was unleashed. It received good reviews, but not that many people bought it. Well, anyone who has a Dreamcast owes it to themselves to buy this game. Toy Commander is one of the most original titles I have ever played.

The Good:

The premise and gameplay is very original. You are the Toy Commander (Andy, a young boy), who has lost control over many of his childhood toys. In a series of 50+ missions, you must fight for the alliance of your toys and regain your title as Toy Commander.
The missions are very imaginative and use the environements (bathtubs, hallways, parent's rooms, bath rooms) very cleverly. My favorite is where you make an assault on a "harbor" (a bathtub) in your plane.
Simple, but clear and sharp graphics
Music goes well with the mood of the game
Many different vehicles to choose from
The game is very humorous and utilizes the "Toy" concept very well
The weapons are very cool (even if there are only 4)

The Bad:

Some wonky controls and camera angles can lead to some cheap deaths
A few of the missions are impossible to complete in the given time limit
The bosses are way too easy

Toy Commander is one of the rare games that is both original and fun. The gameplay is so varied and clever that Toy Commander never gets stale. There is even a multiplayer mode- which is also gobs of fun. If the game's controls were a bit tighter, TC would be perfect. Still, Toy Commander is one of the finest games on the Dreamcast. And to Sega: Please make a sequel sometime soon!

One of the most imaginative games ive ever played

Imagine flying a toy jet through a model town (made up of doll houses, stereo equipment, and blocks) in total 3d. Then Imagine that there is a giant blow up godzilla (dressed in a bunny suit) destroying the town. If you can picture that than you can begin to imagine the amount of imagination that was needed to create this game. Toy Commander allows you to control several different toy plains and cars in a world that fits the toys size. Rooms and objects appear huge compared to you.The missions in this game very extremely. In one mission you have to protect a toy tugboat from wind up submarines in a floaded kitchen. In another you have to destroy a spider and its children before they can kill a toy helicopter stuck in a web. The deathmatch is really fun (4 players max) and it allows you to choose between 35 different toys (43 if you beat all the bosses). The only complaint I have is that to play all the deathmatch levels you have to unlock them by beating missions in the single player game.
