One of the best Wii games out there

Finally, the wait is over; and it was worth the wait. Mario Kart Wii is one of the best games out there for the Wii system. Plus, as an added bonus you get a free Wii Wheel with every game. ($14.95 separate for each additional wheel needed) The levels are fun, colors are bright and exciting. As you continue to get better the game unlocks more levels and characters to play with. New to the game is online play (wi-fi connection needed. Free; however you are responsible for internet charges). This means you finally can play against your friends whether they are in the same room, or around the world! Also, you can meet new Wii users and they can become you new Wii friends. I highly recommend this game! Buy it today.

For someone who was not a gamer before Wii, a lot has changed. I bought Mario Kart on a whim and have loved it ever since. It's easy to learn but not to master. Graphics are great. Races are challenging and at times frustrating when I drive over the edge into the abyss...lol... The game is suitable for all ages and the game has enough surprises and challenges that can take you from last to first in one lap or sadly from first to last. So you never can get cocky cause you never know what may happen. Love the game and my Wii.

Casual Fun But Lack of Options Keeps It From Greatness

Mario Kart for the Wii sticks to the tried and true Mario Kart franchise formula for fun racing and casual multiplaying. The strengths of the franchise regrettably come with the same annoyances of the prior installments - punishing rubber band AI.

Rubber band AI is Mario Kart's way of leveling the playing field for novice computer opponents and also applies to other players. In a nutshell, the game discriminates against skilled players. It does this by providing more powerful items to players (both human and computer) that are behind in the race. A first place player is hard pressed to get anything other than fake item boxes, bananas and green shells, whereas the player in last place is far more likely to get POW boxes, lighting bolts, bullet bills and the like.

The benefit of rubber band AI is that my friends who've never played the game before can jump in and be competitive. The downside is that it is maddeningly infuriating to play single player against the computer. You WILL experience a race where you are in first place for the entirety of the race only to be struck by a blue shell and subsequently paralyzed by repeated red shell bombardments. One questions the logic behind the blue shell item (an item that automatically takes out whoever is in first place): is it fun playing a game that is so obviously "race-ist" against first place (har har - sorry).

The game is still fun, but you'd think that after so many iterations of the Mario Kart franchise, Nintendo would wise up and allow some customization of race options - such as toggling on/off items to your liking or setting items to "true" random distribution instead of favoring lower placed racers. This flexibility would allow me to play a multiplayer race based on pure "skill" against fellow Mario Kart pros, while retaining the ability to simplify for casual games with novice friends.

The lack of options is even more glaring in "battle" mode - where you are forced to play red vs. blue two team matches. And unused multiplayer spots are filled by computer players. Again, IMO, it's absolutely inexcusable to not include the option to set the total number of players on the field, number of players per team, number of teams, etc.

Alas, Nintendo once again has favored simplicity over function - as is a consistent theme for the company. Much like how I wish the Wii had more robust networking capability, much like Xbox Live, regrettably Nintendo insists on keeping it's console simple, compact, and censored. I can't even type custom messages to opponents when I play them online! Give me a headset Nintendo! Sheesh!

I played the old version on Nintendo Game cube. This version has beautiful vision effect compares with the old one. More characters, cars, motos to choose from. The thing I love the most is to play this game with people around the world.

Very Fun! A MUST Have Wii Game!

This is one of those must have games for the Wii! The game play is fairly easy to learn but challenging to master, making it a game that can be played over and over without becoming boring or repetitious. The huge range selectable options (type of vehicle, character, track, etc) allows a player to move on to something new once an old configuration is mastered. Add in the multi-player and on-line play options and you have a game that is worth far more than the price of most other games.

The included Wii Wheel makes playing much more enjoyable and additional Wheels are not that expensive, so if you will be playing multi-player you should consider getting an additional one to keep the race "fair" :-)

Very highly recommended!

Great Karts Entry

Pros: Tons of great courses both old and new, fun new items, wi-fi multiplayer, lots of great characters and karts, Mii play.

Cons: The Wii Wheel is hard to control, I miss double karts.

This is, without a doubt, the best Mario Kart game ever. The gameplay is basically the same as the previous game -- lots of zany races with an element of randomness. If you hate this sort of thing, then you won't like Mario Kart Wii, if you don't mind it, then you'll probably love this game. This game has a large number of courses, half of them the best of previous Mario Kart games and half of them original new courses. In the end, the new courses outshine even some of the best of the old ones, making more use of gaps and shortcuts. There are also some really creative course concepts such as the Maple Tree course or Wario's Gold Mine.

The new system of scoring which goes up to three stars for really impeccable racers means that the game is suitable for both beginners and old pros. If you are good, you can unlock a large number of Mario characters. I loved the addition of Baby Peach and Baby Daisy as well as the option to play as Miis.

The graphics are nice, though not the best that even the Wii has to offer and the music is a bit annoying at times as expected.

My main complaint is that I found the Wii Wheel hard to manage. You are much better off using a Gamecube controller or the Wii Remote and Nunchuck. Also, I sort of liked the double karting in the last game and would have liked to have seen at least a multiplayer option for it in Mario Kart Wii.

Any flaws, though, are more than compensated for in the fact that you can play this game online via Nintendo wi-fi. A crazy Mario Kart race with eleven other real people is just what this series has been missing.

Wii are Having Fun Racing!

After playing this game on my friend's Wii, I went out and bought a Wii and this game. That's how much I enjoyed it.

I have the original Mario Kart for the Super Nintendo. The basic game play is pretty much the same. You are controlling one of the characters from the Mario universe as you attempt to race around tracks and win. Along the way, you can pick up power ups to help you or hinder your opponents. Of course, that means they can attack you as well, so watch out.

With this incarnation, you've got 32 courses to play. You start out with half of them available and earn the other half as you win races. They include fun new courses created for this version as well as the best of the courses from the older incarnations of this game.

This game can be played by one person or up to four people, each needing their own controllers. Naturally, with four players, the screen becomes smaller, so you'd want to have a larger TV.

You can also play this game over the internet. I've raced against friends across town who also have it. Or, if none of them are on line, you can race against strangers. The game will set up matches from your region or around the world.

But what really makes this game amazing in the remote. Each copy comes with one steering wheel. That's right. Just put your regular remote in the wheel and suddenly you can steer your car. I still haven't figured out quite how they set the receiver to do that. You don't need to use the wheel, however. You can just use your remote, although it isn't nearly as much fun. Heck, you can even use your nunchuck controller if you'd like.

The graphics are quite uneven on this game. The newer levels look pretty good, but the older ones are done in the same, cheesy style. Admittedly the entire thing is rather cartoonish. But it really don't dampen my enjoyment in the slightest.

Overall, this is a fun game that I know I will be playing for a long time to come.

WOW Nintendo does it Again!!!!

Mario Kart Wii has finally arrived and yes everyone in the world has it now. This game is packed with stuff from Vs, Battles to Ghost Time trials and the new exciting Wi-fi play. I opened the game as soon as I got home and tried out the Wii wheel bundled with the game. The wheel makes mario kart a fun experience but I dont quiet feel comftorable with it yet due to the fact that I am so used to other racing where you just hold the wii remote on its side but it is fun to use. The game also has many characters to start and a few more to unlock. The game is a bit challenging which is not a bad thing just something we dont expect from a nintendo game but its not to much where you wanna grab and throw something. All in all this Game Gets an "A" its just what I expected the online play is fast and very fun and its Mario Kart for crying out loud> I will and have recommended this game for friends and family so Go grab a copy and Join me on the track because we can race. HERE Wii GO!!!!
