This is not The Two Towers or Return of the King

Despite being a prequal in the literary word to Lord of the Rings, this is not really an RPG any more than the Legend of Zelda. There is no leveling and that was the only reason I bought this game. Buyers beware!

This Game Is Horrible!!!

This game sucks. I got it and i beat it on the same day in about 3 hours. It is to easy, I like HARD HARD HARD!!!! games like Fire Emblem. It is not worth $20.00!

Snoozer... This game is alright, but it gets pretty boring and you can't save wherever you want. I got this game after seeing my friend's X Box version, and I must say, the X Box version is a billion times better. This game is ok, but it is very repetetive and it gets really old really fast having to defeat the same enemies over and over. I am stuck in the Orc cave right now as described in Tolkien's novel, which is one of the things that made this game appeal to me originally. But, it is not the game I was expecting. I did not enjoy this game very much. My reccomendation, Pokemon, because it is a lot better... The Hobbit is not the best GBA game out there, to say the least. Save your money.

Dissapointing

This game isn't what it seems. The only things you fight really are animals. Sure, you fight goblins in the cave where you find the ring and at the end of the game, but otherwise its all wolves spiders and plants. Yes, you fight a lot of plants. the actual fighting isn't to good either. Bilbo keeps swinging his weapon back and forth the same way, which gets REALLY boring. This game is a dissapointment to LOTR. Only get if you are truly completely bored. (In my game theres a glitch that won't let me pass the level with the elves!!)

Best of the handheld Tolkien's

Two Towers was a fun hack n slash, and the original LOTR game by Vivendi for the GBA left alot to be desired. However one thing it achieved possibly too well was the breadth of Tolkien's universe. This game manages to capture the essence of its wonderful source material, with all of the action and dialogue taken directly from the novel. Some of this can feel rushed particularly Gollum's first appearance, this is why I am taking a star off. Gameplay wise this is a terrific Zelda clone with all sorts of goodies, weapons and hidden areas. The game makes full use of the GBA and its buttons with a fair amount of the action relegated to the left shoulder button if you desire (weapons etc.) The save system is another reason I am giving this four stars (isolated save books), otherwise this is a great game that captures the flair of the writing which inspired it.

A Good-Hearted Adventure...

I first played this game through several friends of mine who owned it first. Now, I am a large LOTR fan, but not one of those junkie-hippie-nerdy types that do nothing else but read, watch, or play Tolkien. To me, this game wasn't a huge dissapointment. I don't play many RPGs that are as interesting as this one. And I must admit, a mission-based LOTRs game: C'mon, who woulda thought of that? True, the story isn't told well, but that factor is made up for in many ways. For example, I like how you get to know Bilbo through his actions in the game. For example, the script doesn't exactly reach out and tell you Bilbo isn't the outdoor-sy type. You learn that through the audio of his yelps, shouts, and whimpers. These eventually change into downright war cries. Stuff like that I deem interesting. I haven't played the XBOX version. But I can tell you now: I don't like all the people on this page dissing the game. It's not the novel (never will be) and it isn't anything more than GBA. Game Boy, folks. All kidding aside: this game is good. If you're not a Tolkien freak, I reccomend it.

quite a fun little game

The graphics and art design of the whole thing is very nice, especially for a GBA title. This game is simple but still very fun, and hard to put down. Game play is pretty straight forward, but there are still enough surprises to distinguish it from similar titles. It actually follows the story very well. This is a great game for younger kids!

Title Deserves Better Game Play

This game would be an ideal intro to rpg/puzzle type games but for someone looking to find time-worthy entertainment, I recommend to seek another title. Don't get me wrong, the graphics are wonderful particularly the dialogue screens but graphics cannot make up for what the game lacks. The "quests" are far from challenging although later puzzles may prove frustrating. There are no real consequences to poor judgement or failed combat, there are plenty of save journals available usually prior to impending combat or puzzles. Replay value is moot especially if you save at the journal available at the end (be prepared to watch credits over and over if you do save there). There is little in the way of exploration since everything has been laid out for the player. Battles can be swift at the beginning offering plenty to pick up but overall battles provide little in the way of challenging but plenty of button mashing. This game may provide younger players with a little entertainment but more than likely not long lasting.

The Best Game Ever!
