I'm So Freaking Frustated!

Well, I saw the previews. I have Roller Coaster Tycoon 2. And I went to the sites and loved watching the coaster cams. Well, I open my presents on Christmas (a.k.a Today). And you know my response right? YAAAAAAY!! THANK YOU MOM AND DAD!!!! Well, that was my response. So I go to my room, go on my computer, and pop the disc in. I install it and register....you know the whole install process. Finally it installs. It comes up with a screen. With options (if you have this game you know) with "Play" "Photo Party 3" (or something like that.). So natuarally being so excited, I press play. When it does something for like a minute or so (I thought it was loading!!).
But....
It said..... Error: Your graphics hardware or drivers do not meet minimum requirements to run RCT3. This error has also been sent to Debug.log.
OK : Cancel :
Then, I have the option to hit OK or Cancel. I hit OK. Then it comes up saying "RCT3.exe must close" and yada yada yada (All Windows Users Now What That Is!). I tryed un-installing and installing agian and it won't work. And updating graphics costs serious $$$. So I'm stuck. And my lovable dad bought this game for me, so I'm so sad. And upset....I actually broke a keyboard key. It still doesn't make sense since, my computer is huge. And not that old. It was bought August 24th 2004. If anyone thinks they can help me e-mail me at (...). Thank you if you e-mail me. Now, I have to go tell my parents it doesn't work, then og to some store and try to get them to return it and there's usually a strict policy on games. Thanks For Reading This Long Review!

Going back to RCT 2!

The newest version of Roller Coaster Tycoon is a disappointment. I more than meet the system requirements, yet the game takes forever to load, if it does at all, and often stutters during play. I also have to change the screen resolution on my laptop before loading.
I got this game for Christmas, and decided to give it a couple of weeks worth of play to get used to the new aspects of the game. I agree with most of the complaints in the other reviews here. It's fun to build the rides and ride them, but if I want to enjoy the creation of a thriving theme park, then I have to go back to RCT 2. I'd almost rather play the original if I had to choose between 1 and 3!

A joy to play

Ever since the first game was released, most have wanted to play the game in 3D now, after several add on packs and a equal, we have to wait no longer.

While many have complained that it is plagued with bugs and lack of original features, I am happy to that this has been fixed in the latest update. This means that is up to scratch and deserves to be seen in new light.

The AI is up to slandered and adding a several winding path will no longer confuse them (which from my experience never did). You are now able to view all your peeps thoughts collectively and see where the assigned paths of all workers when setting down another's; these features are the dominant ones that were lacking from previous versions or RCT3.

The new graphics are great, they also add to the sense of achievements of building a park. Its a great feeling to sit back and look at your thriving park. The roller coasters, while are now slightly more tricky to make, are infinitely more impressive to look at (and ride :D).

One thing that I liked about the original was the ability to customize rides and fiddle with statistics, and the large detail made to managing finances, which on first playing, was afraid it might have be lost. Thankfully it is still there, thought is slightly over shadowed(/hidden?) by the new graphics makeover.

One thing that does bother me is the new layout of controls. It takes a lot longer than it should to get used to. The simple windows type interface has been replaced with a line of small icons down the left hand side which are rather fiddly to use. Once one is selected, another horizontal list of vague icons appears which you have to hover over to find out what they are. once you find what your are looking for it appears in a window, some of which can have done with being slightly bigger.

Also a notable thing that will also plague fans of the original is the makers decision to anchor ride and 'peep' windows to the bottom, right-hand corner of the screen. This means that you can only view one worker at once, one customer, one ride, etc, which can be annoying if you want to make quick changes to several things.

The VIP tasks have proved to have problems, as they sometimes do not function properly, however this will often work to our advantage. Also the fireworks feature, while is a great feature is confusing to use, and as such isn't much fun use either. Although this is confirmed to have a major rework in the next update.

Rather long winded, but better than having a vague overview. If you have just skipped to this part rather than reading the whole thing, this game will please new comers and old fans alike. It remains true to original and fun to play, but have a sightly steeper learning curve due to use of very similar and vague icons and fancy interface that will have you hunting around for what you want, but overall its well worth the money.

Fun but . . . .

I really enjoy the new RCT3. It is fun to learn and the objectives are not too hard to meet. However, it does have a few bugs. I am a design student. My computer is optomized to enable good graphics rendering; however this game still crashes when I try to close it down. Also I HATE background music, and I cannot turn it off no matter what the option menu says. If you are used to the old Rollercaoster games this will take some getting used to. The new 3D graphics are great and I love looking at the peeps, but the 3D environment was a bit disconcerting at first. Overall I like this game if your machine is big enough.

You Need This If You Loved The First Game!!!!!!!!

This is 100xs better than the first one. The peeps(people) actually have their own thoughts, even the employees, instead of the generic "I'm hungry." If you leave ther window open to long they get scard because they think someone is watching them. They have a lot better rides as well. There is also an auto complete for the roller coasters so that you don't have to worry about matching the ends of the tracts. The fireworks program is very cool. The peeps love them and it brings up your park rating by a lot. You can also add your own music to the game. The problem is that you can not hear it. The day and night effect is really cool because the rides light up and the fireworks are really pretty. Buy this game. It is SO much fun.

Fun game

RCT 3 is a lot of fun. There are so many things you can do and new rides pack in this set. I like how you can use the sandbox mode to create a park without any scenarios. In the other RCT's you needed to finish all the scanarios to get the sandbox mode. There are new rides and attractions with different types of themes like western. The attractions itself are wetern too, like the rides with a Wild west shootout show. The 3d images are very attractive and riding the coaster cam makes you feel like you are actually on the ride. I like the different new attractions in the park like the concert and the midway rides like what you find in carivals. They complement the other rides as well.

The only cons are the people look wierd. The shapes of their bodies are abnormal and the eyes are squares. Very strange. The 3d textures look great out you need a very fast computer to run them at high settings. I have a AMD processor with 1.5 Ghz and it runs at low settings to get the smoothest framerates. Building a coaster is much harder than in the other editions. Looking a 3d while building may throw off people when building.

All in all, it is a great RCT with 3d images. It is a lot better than EA's SimCoaster.

bugs but FUN!!!!!!!!

Thorough review by J. Lemmens is right on the mark. I had no trouble installing, but it took a couple of days to learn the new interface. Now, having made that investment I am frustrated with the peep simulation. What we got is a slick graphics game but the simulation is not as good as RCT2. This is the crux of the problem. I think there was more design orientated to the youth zeal for glitz than the serious simulation game player, who in fact are the real adherents to games such as RCT, SimCity, FlightSim, etc. They missed the mark, and need some patches real quick.

Since I bought Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 I have been playing it non-stop. The game is so fun and so easy to play. I have been able to design an entire theme park with ease. I have built wooden coasters, inverted coasters, merry-go-rounds, teacups, everything you could imagine. I have totally been able to bring my dream theme park to life and I recommend that you do the same!

Bring Back the 2D and the Clone-like Peeps!

Having been a HUGE fan of RCT 1 and 2, I was initially excited to hear about the release of RCT 3. But once I heard that the look of the game, the guests, the rides, the handymen, etc. was changed, I was very disappointed. I loved the colorful graphics and cuteness of the former versions, and was very attatched to them. However, I thought I'd give the game a chance.

My instincts had been right, however. Sure, the graphics are nice, and there were some cool additions such as fireworks and nighttimes and VIP guests, and guests that can arrive in groups and can talk to each other (I enjoyed creating my own guests too). But I didn't really like the graphics as much as I thought I might--they seem to clutter up the screen, while the 2D graphics were clearer. The construction, finance, etc. buttons are in a confusing layout. The zoom makes me motion sick. The whole game runs a little slow. There aren't enough attractions to choose from. You have to worry about keeping your handymen happy all the time. And the guests are so dang stupid. At least the squat little peeps from the former games knew where to find the bathrooms. Not to mention that the guests themselves look rather awkward and ugly. Their expressions are idiotic and creepy.

If I were in charge of RCT 3, here's what I would've done: I would've kept the beloved 2D graphics (which were really quite good for 2D), and added the fireworks and VIPS. I would've kept the old, cute design of the guests, but perhaps given them at least different hairstyles, and maybe different sizes ("kids" and "adults"). I would up the guests' intelligence considerably, so that they could come to the parks in the groups and talk to each other. And I would add more fun background extras, like the famous quacking ducks in RCT 1!
