Tremendously disappointing

I've loved all of the previous RCT products. I had great hopes for this one, as they seemed to have added features like riding the rides that I had always wanted to have.

Unfortunately, it didn't work that way. The interface has changed COMPLETELY. I found that I didn't know how to play the game at all, in spite of tons of experience with the other RCT games. The changes could be a good thing, if they made the game better. But they don't. They are harder to use, requiring more clicks, and far less intuitive.

While the graphics are nice and seem advanced compared to the previous graphics, the interface seems to have gone backward. It is more akin to the old Sim game interfaces.

I am a laptop user. I installed this on my laptop and it ran fine, though it did take quite a while to load. With all the games I play, I use my touchpad and related buttons that correlate to mouse buttons. That doesn't work for this game, though it did for the previous RCT's. Instead, I had to use keyboard buttons like page up and page down for various functions. It was again completely not intuitive and not fun to use.

The difficulties of use and lack of user-friendliness sapped all of my enthusiasm for the new graphics and features. I trashed the whole thing.

All I could think was--how awful. What a waste of $40.

I'll go back to re-playing and re-playing the old Tycoon. :(

All of the fun is out of RCT!

Having loved the first one, when I bought the new one, Roller Coaster Tycoon 3, I thought it was the hardest game ever made. I mean, I'm sure it would be a great game if you knew what to do and how to play it, but I don't even know where I can "Ride my own rides". Also, NO MORE 2-D ANIMATION! I know it looks cool to some people, but now it just looks like one of those boring Gamecube games and stuff. It's just not fun anymore. It dosn't have the merry-go-round music anymore, the "Peeps" don't look nice anymore but they now look like gangsters! Also, if you want to master this game, you got to go out and buy a 20 buck book that tells you how to play it because the little booklet they give you in the CD-rom itself is just cr*p! I don't even understand what they say in the 20 buck book neither so I have ended up paying close to 60 dollars [Yes, all of my allowance =(
] and I don't even know how to play this!

If you are one of those hardcore gamers that loves 3-D animation, "phat" MP3 music instead of carnival music, and "sweet" gaming, this game is without a doubt reccomended for you. But if you are true to the other Roller Coaster Tycoon games, this game will be nothing but a dissapointment. If you are totally new to all of this, I'd reccomend Sim theme park. But after that, I can't really tell ya what to do. I think it would be smart if you are interested in buying this game to go to the Rolller coaster tycoon website and to download their free trial of this game. But you are not going to like it, let me tell ya.

So it all comes together that this game is just not fun and is a waist of money. So, I say do not buy but maybe because of the new expansion pack that is coming out this summer...

I went against some of the bad reviews online and purchused the game anyway. No matter what type of computer you hame this game is not very good. The menu is very annoying (quite different than 1 & 2) along with calling all the guests peeps. I wouldn't waste your money on a game that is not very user friendly. The original and the 2nd one a a whole lot bettter a lot cheaper.

Main Reasons Not To Buy RCT3

-not user friendly (menu and all of game play)
-bad graphics
-$$$$ expensive

This is not Roller Coaster Tycoon

I urge anyone who is interested in buying this game to try out the FREE demo available for download on the Atari website.

They (the new developers NOT Chris Sawyer) attempted to reinvent a game that worked brilliantly in it's previous incarnations- only they should have stopped at the visuals (which are very impressive), and that really is the only place the original game failed. The core game play is so very confusing now- and the interface is just little dots with meaninless icons that fill your screen with visual overload. Nothing is where it used to be- and things are split across multiple icons that it becomes a hunt and peck situation.

The core mechanics of the game (the way you build rides & place sidewalks) have all changed so significantly- I feel they've destroyed the game in the process. I am a huge fans of RCT1 and 2- but I'm seriously considering passing on this hunk of junk.

Where did the good old days go

Not Cool......what happened to the game. Roller Coaster Tycoon was amazing and RCT2 was pretty great too. I played the demo, IT WAS HORRIBLE. It lags (I don't know if thats because its just a demo but it was bad, and I have fast computer), there is night now which is annoying, it just turned day and I got on the coaster cam which is probally the only good thing from this game and by the time I got up the lift hill it was night. I cant build a waiting line unless I click that option like 10 times. I cant build a regular path from a ride unless the ride is on the ground. I cant delete a peice of path. You cant just click the little arrow at the top of the screen to change the view anymore, you have to hold both sides of the mouse to move which is confusing me. And when you zoom in you dont know where you are because your so close and you try to zoom out a little but you go too far. It was way too easy to do the first task because i wasn't trying and the second task is way too hard with the little time you get when i was trying. I am just saying I miss the plain roller coaster tycoon even if the graphics aren't great...the ones in the original are fine. I was only amused at only two points in the game......the coaster cam (even though it lags and I have a better game with great graphics where ZI can do that).......and when I built a balloon shop (people bought a balloon and when they did I would pop it and they get scared and either buy a new one or walk away like nothing ever happened...i did this for 20 minutes showing how bad the other parts of the game were. I would finally like to say that this is the worst RCT game and Chris Sawyer needs to straighten these people out.

Good system - Game won't run - no help from support

I'm computer literate, have a six month old system with 512 ram, 64mb ram s3 video, 70 gb hd, 1.4 ghz athlon.

This game starts to load the park and then reboots the entire system. Dxdiag passed all tests, uninstall reinstall, reinstall of directx 9, etc. Tried everything, no help from tech (gee sorry).

Forget about unless you just like to take risks.

Save yourself the headache - buy another game

What a dissappointment. I bought this game for my son (from St.Nick). We have never gotten it running. RCT 3 has its own call-in help line (you pay the LD charges) that I have had to call countless times - but to no avail.

I have a 1 1/2 year old Dell 4550 desktop that exceeds all the requirements listed on the box yet had to upgrade the sound card and video card.

Under "trouble shooting" its lists numerous problems that exist with this game and all users are reccomended to install a "patch" [...]

My son & I are masters of RCT 1 and RCT 2 and got "taken for a ride" with this one. [...]

you need to have a super computer....what a waste of $40

Ok, so i bought this game because im completely obsessed with the series, only to find out that it wouldnt play on my computer. i just bought a brand new computer with 512 ram and everything else quite equipped, only to find that this 40$ game wont even run on my computer. It gives me the "windows blue screen of death" once im click on the first thing to play in the game- and i checked their website---- SO MANY PEOPLE have had tech problems with this game. ITS TERRIBLE!(even with the updates and everything) they suggest you upgrade your video card and this and that.--- and theres no way i would pay to upgrade my computer when every other game ive bought plays fine!
ALSO- i tried running it on my virtual PC for my mac and it wouldnt even load the game up!
i could see this game being way fun it if actually ran on a normal persons computer----its like when you make a roller coaster that has very extreme fun and sickness level- its pointless! SO DONT BUY IT! i lost 40$ and so have a lot of people :(

im just so disappointed in this game! the sims 2 came out with way better graphics and a "3-D version" and that plays great on my computer! i just wish they had done the same with this game

Does anyone know how to get it to work!!!

I have a system that far exceeds the requirements needed to run this game. But all I can get is the intro screen when I click on play it comes up with an error. Being a huge RCT fan and have every expansion pack for both the first 2 naturally I went out and bought this the day it was released. But I haven't been able to enjoy it. Everyone is complaining about the graphics and the rest of it....I wish I could even try it once. And ataris 24/7 hotline...well when I called it...I got no answer call back monday!!! Some 24/7....I will be returning this and will never buy another atari game again. And fyi Atari....My friends were waiting to see if I liked this before they went to buy it because I was an expert of the first two...well needless to say I won't be recommending this problem layden game to them, I wouldn't wish this headache on my worst enemy....CHRIS SAWYER Please come back and give us one the good old days!!!!

I got it with a gift card. I thought that it would be good to play because I love the first one, the expansion packs, and Roller Coaster Tycoon 2. It just isn't good. For like $30(I think I got it for more at Best Buy), it's a waste of money. The graphics are nothing compared to the first 2 games(and their expansion packs).
