Good game needs work.

THPS2 is a good game but the control needs a little work and it`s kind of hard to understand where the skater is going. The game is better in a big screen.

Fantastic, no matter how you look at it

I'll admit I was skeptical the first time I heard of Tony Hawk 2 being on the GBA, and I was even more skeptical when I heard how great it was, so I took a gamble and played it, and I was pleasently surprised. The 3/4 view perspective is awkward, as are the controls for Tony Hawk vets, but you will adjust quickly and find out how great the gameplay is, even on the small screen. The levels are nicely designed, and the skaters are nicely rendered, in full 3-D I might add. The tricks are easy to pull off, every trick from the PS1 and Dreamcast versions are present, as are most of the secrets, including Spider-Man as a secret character. However, the fun factor is decreased because there is no create a park or create a skater that was found in the other conversions, but overall, the GBA Tony Hawk 2 is one of the best GBA games ever, and is essential to your GBA library.

The Handheld Industry's "Revolutionary"

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater was the first and best skateboarding game to hit the console market. Many would even consider it to be the best game ever. It provided a unique sense of game play that provided countless hours of fun and excitement, which led it to have one of the highest replay values of any other game. When the sequel was released on the DC, PS2, and PC, (and soon on the N64 as well) it further pushed the award winning series to the top as it featured superior graphics, game play, music, and an insane replay value. The speed in which Tony's became famous was truly amazing; in fact, it was even being compared to Nintendo's major success, Pokémon. It was no surprise when Activision decided to bring the sequel to the GBA, Nintendo's newest phenomenon. But what Activision has done is truly amazing. The launch title will feature isometric 2D levels with 3D skaters composed of 300 polygons each! Featuring 6 levels from the sequel and a favorite from the original, the Warehouse, Tony Hawk's is setting out to become the handheld industry's revolutionary, a true demonstration of the GBA's power. 3D textures, "seamless movement", 13 characters (each with their own unique ability's and moves), and 3 modes of play will most likely make this game the top launch title for the system. Screenshots and descriptions do not give this game justice, as it is beyond all imaginable beliefs. For more information of this one of a kind game, go to http://pocket.ign.com/ for clear and amazing pictures and downloadable videos. If there is one reason to buy a GBA, it's for the game that was quoted to be, "almost exactly the same as the PSX version!" This game will by all means change the way we look at handhelds.

I just picked up my gb advance with a copy of this game (and castlevania). Both games are awesome but I would have to give a stronger recommendation to this one. The game is beautiful and easy to play. Furthermore, its set up is more freindly for the handheld sort of game play than castlevania. Namely, you can play for 10 minutes and have just as good a time as if you play for an hour or two. I would highly recommend this game. Trick execution is only frustrating for about 5 min if you played any of the earlier versions. The soundtrack is the only seriously reduced part of the game. This title comes with a strong recommedation.

This is a great game, But you have to remember that this is a portable game and you can not expect as much as you would in something like a playstation version of the game. The levels are designed very nicely, though not exactly the same as on original versions. This is necessary though because of the view. some objects like the secret tape in the warehouse have been moved because they would not be seen at all, and you would just be guessing where you have to jump.

When looking at the menus and selection screens, you sometimes forget you are playing a game boy, and the characters look great. You can actually make out what is happening when tricks are being performed, and when specials are done, the camera zooms in which adds a nice little effect to the game.

One disappointment is the music. while it is cool on a game boy level, it does not live up to the sound tracks of the originals, but, once again, this is a portable version of a game.

Overall, you should buy this game if you are looking for a PORTABLE Tony Hawk. The view takes some time to get used to as does the controls but after and hour or so, it is not a factor anymore. BUY IT!

Absolutley the best GBA game around!!!

I got to say this has to be the best game for GBA. It uses GBA's power very well because it has amazing graphics. There are many more moves than the first one. You can pick from a diverse group of skaters. One thing good about this game is you can make them better in career mode. You skate through 2 min sessions and recieve cash for doing some tasks such as knocking down 5 trash cans and getting a certain amount of points. Using that cash, you can make your skater better in some of their weak areas, use it to unlock skate parks, and get better and new gear such as skateboards. There is also just a plain 2 min session to see how good you can do before you start your career mode. And before all that you should do free skate to practice and get used to the controls. If you having some trouble, there is something called "kid mode" which will give the skater better balance and will make it much easier. But, when you get a high score and get in the "hall of fame" in the 2 min session, it will say that was not a real run and won't give you the full credit of accomplishing that.

If you want a action packed game and want to get addicted to the GBA, you'll gave a fun and great time playing this game: TONY HAWK PRO SKATER 2!!!!!

Never played Tony Hawk 2? This version might make you a fan!

First I gotta say, by now I'm just a casual gamer. My heyday of endlessly playing videogames pretty much ended at the end of the 16-bit days. So I didn't know anything about Tony Hawk 2 other than all the good reviews it was getting. So I grabbed a copy, and after an hour of playing I was instantly addicted. I'm not a huge fan of sports themed games either, but this game is so much fun. Tons of tricks you can perform, tons of upgrades, and tons of level goals. The animation is amazingly fluid and realistic. Despite what other reviewers have said, this is NOT a 3D game but rather a very well done simulation of it. Your character sprite scales and rotates in a static playing field giving the illusion of depth. And with a battery saving your "career", this is the perfect game for a portable machine. Pick it up for 5 minutes or 5 hours. Give it a try, you just might love it.

I bought this game based on the glowing reviews that it has gotten, nothing else. I was worried because I don't like skateboarding at all, and that I may not like this game.

I had never played a Tony Hawk game in my life, but as soon as i switched on my GBA, all fears were erased.

If you're thinking this, yes, is is kinda hard to learn but once you get the hang of it, you got one impossibly addictive game on your hands.

The screenshots don't do the game justice, in reality, the graphics are crisp, and smooth. The sound effects rock, and the music is great, if a bit quieter than it should be. The special tricks aren't too hard to pull off, and are great fun to watch.

For Tony Hawk vets the viewpoint may take a little getting used to, and although the items are hard to grab because you don't know EXACTLY where they are, this is offset by the shadows they leave on the ground. (But getting in to the Wind Tunnel on the Hanger level can be maddening at times).

THPS2 also has a wealth of cheat modes and special characters to unlock (Spider-Man!). Each Skater has their own unique boards and tricks. Altough you can only create 1 new career at a time, you have 13 skaters to work with, and each has their own individual career, so that is VERY good.

The Objectives for each level can be tough to begin with, but you get the hang of them quite easily. Some of them you have to do special tricks to do, and i dont quite know how to do those yet.

Overall, BUY THIS GAME!!! (And Castlevania, of course)

Pros: -Great Graphics -Challenging -Loads of secrets

Cons: -Items are hard to grab -Viewpoint takes some getting used to (Tony Hawk Vets only) -Some of the objectives are exceptionally hard

Overall: 95% A game that EVERYONE will enjoy, regardless of if they like skateboarding or not.

This has got to be the best GBA launch title ever. Its play control, graphics, and nearly endless trick combonations make up for the game's limited selection of levels.
