Much better than the first Paper Mario

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 4 / 4
Date: August 24, 2005
Author: Amazon User

I remember playing the first Paper Mario, I found it to be just a passable experience. It got boring and repetitive, coupled with the disappointment of it not being a "real" sequel to the original Super Mario RPG, which is one of my favorite games of all time. This game makes a marked improvement in the series. It starts off slow (get ready for much readings), and in the first 2 chapters I was thinking "It's the same game as the last one!", what with the same 7 star collecting, the same first 2 allies, and so on. It wasn't until the Twilight chapter that I found out that there are more twists and originality to the game than I had first thought.

The seven stars thing though. That's another one of the drawbacks to the game. This is Nintendo's 4th generation system, yet they are only capable of creating a game of equal length to the one on the 2nd generation system? Please. I'm sick of collecting seven stars all the time, can we maybe have more than seven worlds?

To the positive points. The music isn't as bad as people make it out to be. Yes it's synthy, there are no choirs backed up by an orchestra here. The battling system is hugely improved, with the addition of stylish moves and interaction with a crowd, battles rarely get dull and redundant (for me, at least). Also, the graphics are great. For a game based off 2D characters, that's saying a lot. The animations are enjoyable which help the playability of the game a lot, I think.

Since this is one of the very few RPGs, let alone exclusive RPGs, for the Gamecube, Gamecube owners can't go wrong with this game. Even those who are self-conscious about playing cartoony Mario games should enjoy this game's depth (relatively, at least) and sense of humour.

RPG of the year

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 4 / 4

IGN.com gave out it's 2004 year end awards and Paper Mario won RPG of the year across ALL platforms. Ironically Paper Mario skirts the edge of actually being an RPG in the first place. Mario only has three adjustable statistics and only one can be raised per level upgrade. Most of the adjustments come from badge selections.

The Thousand Year Door is light and fun and intended to put a smile on the players face. Unlike many RPG's Paper Mario never overstayes its welcome. When you're finished you'll wish there were more, not because the game is short but because it's such an enjoyable ride. Players who love a challenge will enjoy the Pit of 100 Trials. Players who enjoy collecting will love gathering badges, recipes and creature info.

This game is one of a handful that will define the GameCube in years to come. Some franchises like Mario Kart have regressed on the GameCube but The Thousand Year Door is undoubtedly the pinnacle of the Mario RPG series.

To S.Hammel

Instead of saying how much fun this game is(as the others already did it), I will say something to S.Hammel.

Ever noticed that in any game Mario is in, they don't talk in voice? It's a typical mario thing, and if you don't like it, than leave it. Just don't lower the rating by saying such nonsense such as "my son couldn't read so I had to read! I couldn't get my housejobs done! Boo-Hoo! Why does this game has to have a baloon popping out and stuff! It's unfair!" oh shuddup.

An all new adventure!

First, there was Paper Mario. It was a great game and it made people whine for a second Paper Mario. So, last year Nintendo came out with a similar game for the GBA- Mario and Luigi: The Superstar Saga. Now comes Paper Mario 2! In the game it will really emphasize how everything is made of paper. Mario will now be able to fold into different things to get past obstacles. I have seen one screenshot of Mario and his sidekick (in that picture it was a koopa) folding into a paper airplane to cross a large gap between his path. I did say sidekick too! You will love the hillarious new sidekicks that battle along Mario's side. Also, this game is supposed to be full of jokes and funny things. The only reason I gave it four out of five stars is because you now battle on a stage in front of an audience (the audience eventually grows based on your power) instead of out in the open.
I will buy this game right when it comes out!

This game is totally AWESOME! I love the graphics, and it is very fun to play! Mario explores a whole world constructed from just plain paper, and he can do a lot more cool things when he's paper! He also overcomes many different sidekicks that have different powers that help him along the way! Mario can even fold into a paper airplane! overall this game is the most amazing, cool, out of this world game ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SO PLAY IT NOW DUDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This game is a great game. It has it all great graphics, sound, and overall display. But there is just one thing missing the hook, charm, replay. The first one was unbelievible, had to have been the game of that time. Now though this is the game of 2004......well at least till halo 2 comes out in 2 days:) Besides that little factor i would give this 2cnd or 3rd place for game of the year. Just remember if you plan to buy this game be ready for whenever you come back from college, school, or work(maybe) you will want to play. ROCK ON!

Paper Mario the Thousand year door is about a quest for mario, this RPG game is the sequal to the first one for the N64, this game graphics have improved and so has the story. Once Again peach has been kidnapped... Again, But this time it was not Bowser..........someone else. It is really cool you can play as Bowser for parts of the game. This game is ok but not perfect. I actually liked the N64 Version better. I give it 4 Stars with 3 fun stars.

I've been playing Mario games since the original debut on the NES and am extremely happy with my purchase of this game.

The RPG style is a great offshoot for the Mario franchise. The dialogue, animations, and surprises are hilarious, and the 30+ hours I spent playing the game were well worth it. There's a large amount of replayability as there are tons of badges and shine sprites to find.

I will agree with a previous review about the frustration of not being able to skip cut scenes. Most of it is the pain of having to tab through tons of dialogue, which can grow tiresome if you get stuck at a certain point and have to consistently watch the same section over and over.

Paper RPG?

Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, is the "sequel" to the N64's Paper Mario. This time around there's more fun, more sction, and a better game overall.

Princess Peach, can't you ever get it through your thick skull that you should never wander off? Because everyone knows that if you do, your gonna get kidnapped. So of course, she wanders off, gets captured, and you know the rest. Except this time, our good friend Bowser was beat in the race against a new diabolical foe.

It also turns out that the Princess was a treasure hunt, and she wanted Mario to join her. She sends Mario the treasure map, which doesn't make much sense if she's looking for treasure. Anyways, Mario arrives a little to late and comes to discover that the Princess has been kidnapped, again. So Mario is off to save her, and along the way he gets a grab bag of friends to help him out.

Visual- Okay, at first the stlye is a little childish and chezzy. You'll forget all about that once you start playing. There's a somewhat physics engine here, You'll have to consider how paper moves, otherwise you'll slip through cracks or fall off stairs.
This proves to be enjoyable and innovative. A

Audio- There's pretty solid audio in Paper Mario 2. There's some old remixed classics and some new environment appropriate tunes. They will get a bit repetative, but not enough to annoy you. B+

Gameplay- The gameplay is definitely the highlight here. Yes, there's the standard turned based RPG, but they have added a nice touch that proves to be very enjoyable. Your battles take place in front of an audience, where your attacks, itmes, and appeals can change things drastically. You use the audience's cheering, and chang it into star power. Star power will give the ability to perform tricks and nice bonuses. Beware, the audience can mess with you as well. In battle you are accompomanied by one of your partners. The great thing is that you can switch your partner on the spot. A+

Paper Mario 2 is one the best RPGs ever. I highly recommend this game.

Overall- A-
