Needs a story line

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 1 / 2

While I loved the gameplay aspect of this the story line quite positively sucked! Of the 4 possible endings all are lame letdowns and very depressing. I got sick of the storyline half way through the game it was so lame. Someone with some creativity realy needs to get hold of this wonderful engine! I have played the game through only once which is very unusual for me (I replayed the end twice to check out a different ending but the other two are so obvious thier was no need to suffer through it two more times) I suppose if you can afford it this game is worth buying just for the diverse and unusual ways you can do things but if your looking for a fun story dont bother.

Slow load times and ending on Xbox killed it for me....

"You look modified." may be the coin word of the millenium like Robot was in the last one. Nanotechnologies and holograms dominate the future throughout. The game is a sequel that continues 20 years in the future with Alex D the "clone" trainee. You can be male or female with 3 choices of skin color. The game has great potential to be a cult classic and in some cases it is but the slow load times and scarce ammo just kills it for me. The graphics are good but are better on the PC versions compared to the Xbox. Bugs regarding freeze frames are fixed in the Xbox version however, the box still stalls if play over a 6 hour period requiring a "reboot" as it did with me. There are 4 ways to go depending on which side you choose. I seen 2 endings so far. I played the game on default normal and is in reference to that level. The AIs' are good when they are the enemy but as a source of information they can be stupid. Leo in the end was a complete idiot after taking out a faction; questioning Alex D's courage. He becomes useless. I just can't get him to attack anybody else so I kill him for his grenade. NG Resonance is funny and informative in the Air terminal. Little ammo is the main problem I have with the game. I'm totally rationing it throughout the game. Why does it take "2" head shots to kill with a sniper rifle after weapons mods? The advance rail gun is a joke on organic targets. Totally ineffective against even minimum armoured opponents. I can upgrade my Bi-Mods for hacking systems, strength increase, regeneration etc. I don't want to give much away except that the main ending won't please Star Trek fans-- unless it's the foundation for a sequel. After a week of playing, I only get a 15 second ending. I'm playing it a second time as a female and for the start I'm searching for ammo even before I had a weapon. Selecting the right weapon and bi-mod to activate for any given situation can be tedious at times. There is an easter egg regarding a flag in the UNATCO ruins. In the "Dance Room", there's chat logs from the developers about 14 data pads in all. What a bunch of characters!! Is this why there's problems with the game? There's only one way to the VIP Booth in the Easter egg without a key and you're going to have to jump from the speaker boxes to get it. There's nothing there but a good view. On the Xbox, I had to wait 15 seconds between scenes and when I die. Those seconds add up even if the screen displayed hints during the load. In game time, I spend 24 hours. That's about 4.5 days in real time. I was reduced to doing "room clearing" and info gathering like I did in the military. Your actions don't really matter much up to that "point" when you have to take a side. It doesn't matter who you kill. There are only 3 or 4 main ones that determines the outcome of the game. Still it's good game with all the limitations. I really hated where the ending was going and it wasn't what I would call a happy ending. Could have been a great game with more beta testing and a rewrite. I'm glad I got my copy in the "Red Tag" bin for a "Lincoln"!!!!

Good game... needed more.

First of all, I have to say I don't know what glitches previous reviewers are writing about. At all. I've had absolutely zero problems with the game.

Now, that said, I was disappointed with this game in certain ways. The graphics, outside of the work with lighting, were rather bland. In game play, the weapons don't have enough punch and are strangely difficult to nail people with (in comparison to other FPS like Halo and Medal of Honor); forget about melee weapons like the energy sword unless you want to fill one of your VERY finite enquipement slots with something to break objects for the fun of it ... you won't hit diddly in combat. The skills RPG element of the original Deus Ex is gone, and frankly I found the biomods largely uninspired. IMHO, if they were going to do away with the skills, they should have allowed for more biomod slots, maybe even double the slots or more.

I enjoy playing the game. The difficult factor is about right for a good challenge, and I even like the chee-Z plot. I just wanted more stuff. Should have been more. These things are the little things that should not have been too much trouble to include. Hopefully, they'll try again and fill in these little gaps.

AWESOME!

I just bought this game and I've been playing it non-stop since I bought it. I don't know what "bugs" everyone else is referring to in their review because, as I mentioned, I've been playing it non-stop and I haven't had ANY problems whatsoever! It runs beautifully! The physics of the game and the interactivity allowed in the game environment are superb. The graphics are nice and the visuals/environments are dark, moody, and very appropriate for the "conspiracy theory" theme of the game.
So far, RPG elements of the game are great. The player is allowed to solve dilemas within the plot multiples ways: stealth, negotiation, bribery, as well as lethal or non-lethal force. Futhermore, the factions competing for the characters allegience are mysterious and equally convincing. The player must decide who to side with or whether or not to play all the factions off one another.
Since the original Deus Ex game was such a groundbreaking and innovative classic (not to mention being addicting and fun!), it's hard to compare this game to that. I can't say this sequel is better, but it's definately equal!
Go buy this game! It's a blast; one of the best games I've played in a LONG time and worth every penny!

RPG Player Must Buy

If you enjoyed Morrowind for the Xbox, you'll enjoy this title. It has many levels of Roleplaying features without overwhelming you. In fact, there were many features in Morrowind that I never got around to using. This was due in part to the fact that it could overwhelm the player. Deus Ex 2 does a fantastic job of simplifying some of the features in the PC version. For instance, many people are complaining that all the weapons use the same type of ammo. I for one applaud this tweak to the Xbox version. There aren't too many ammo clips to be found in the game so strategic use of your weapons is a must! Therefore, picking up clips when you can is a priority and your weapons never become too much of a focus in the game. To succeed you'll need to master, stealth, hacking and balance your use of Biomods, cybernetic body enhancements found int he first game that allow you to take over robots, turrets, etc. They also allow you to enhance you body allowing suped up jumping and strength capabilities, and best of all HACKING. You can wind up hacking just about every computer in this game forcing it to do you bidding at every corner.

Do yourself a favor, if you want a great single player game with lots os storyline containing interesting twists and turns, get this game it will not disappoint. While the framerate is not as smooth as the Xbox version, it is still very playable.

I bought this game and found it to be a big let down. This game is a step backwards in technology. The Graphics arent even good for a PS2 game let alone Xbox. The character models are ok but the environments are really bad, maybe 2 steps above Nintendo 64. The combat is really sloppy, and the frame rate for the whole game is Sooooo choppy. The AI is one of the worst ever. The bad guys basically just stand there and let you shoot them. Halo and Knights of the old Republic are so far beyond anything this game attempts to be good at. Ion Storm had a while to develope this with some good games to model themselves after, but they just ended up dropping the ball.
If your curious about this game, you should rent it first.
