Doesnt work Nvidia & Windows XP

I get a black screen upon launch and must reboot my computer a dozen times afterwards. I've emailed tech support, downloaded a patch, and perused their problem board all to no avail. Now Doom3 works fine on my system. I dislike their solution, though I tried it, of changing my registry. I think software companies shouldnt even dream of suggesting to customers that they edit their registry. Instead, they should put out a playable game. As it stands, Vampire: Bloodlines, not only doesn't launch, it wasted hours of my time trying their solutions (including putting my desktop in 800x600 although the game box says they support 1200x1600). What gives here?

Amazing game that even adults would love

Vampire the Masquerade is a true masterpiece. When I played the game, I could not stop until I got to the end. The enivronment in which you play sucks you in like crazy. The dark streets of Los Angeles, the corrupt guy selling blood from the hospital, and the mysterious murder at the Santa Monica pier. Also, there is awesome inventory system and you can collect so many items, weapons, and random crap its crazy!! When I got to downtown LA, I was ready to scream it was so cool. They created the buildings with awesome detail and you can do so many different quests. Also, the MUSIC is kick ass in this game, once you hear it, you ll turn Vampire-Goth even if you weren't one before (LOL).

Only one thing to know. I ran this on P4 2.2 Ghz, 1GB ram, and Radeon X800 Pro (256mb) and the game was JUST RIGHT (meaning not to the best graphics). This game is VERY demanding to your PC and if you have less than 1GB Ram, it will be very choppy, as I upgraded from 512 to 1gb and it was an amazing difference.

Enjoy!

Buggy code....this is a BETA folks!!!! CAUTION!!!!

My first piece of advise - DO NOT BUY THIS GAME UNTIL AN OFFICIAL PATCH IS RELEASED! ((I am not the only person saying this))Even then you should be leery until maybe a 2nd patch is out! This game is LOADED with bugs, the graphics engine consumes your CPU and RAM no matter how powerful your system is! Please read on - I don't hate this game...I just think they should have tested it before releasing it to the public.
There are many fansites with forums. In the forums you will find people screaming and yelling from the rooftops about how bad, buggy and choppy this game is!

Let me make myself clear and explain what I mean by BETA for those that do not know.

When a software company creates a program it typically goes through several stages before being released. BETA is a version that is ALMOST ready for sale to the public but needs to go through test drives first to hunt and find problems, crashes, bugs, mistakes, etc. This version would not be sold or released to the public for widespread use. NO WAY!
A release that is ready for widespread public use or sale is called a GOLD or RTM version. This means that it runs beautifully, very few bugs or crash problems, if any!

WELL, Vampires: Bloodlines is NOTHING BUT A BETA!!!!!!!! I can prove it. Keep reading!

I have a P4, ATI X800, 2 GB CORSAIR RAM....etc. You name it, I have nothing but top of the line, latest and greatest.
This game chugs along. It consumes over 750 MB's of RAM when being run, I get choppy frames, and lots of lag at times!
How can this be? Easy, this game was not meant to be released so soon. I think there was pressure to get it out before X-mas!!!! The code and graphics engine behind this game was not ready for retail release.

Bloodlines crashes at certain parts of the game, lip sync is off on many characters, some missions of the game cannot be completed, graphics errors and goof ups abound while playing the game, the combat action is TERRIBLE, involuntary switching from 1st to 3rd person disrupts your game play!! I could go on and on!

The GOOD -
Diverse campaigns/missions, funny interaction with characters, some interesting weapons to use, very creative game with clever ideas and lots of thought put into the concept.

The BAD -
Missions become repetitive, lots of level transitions that TAKE FOREVER TO LOAD!!!!! Lot's of talking about meaningless things with characters. It almost seems like they added this crap just to keep you busy! The graphics are nice but the characters are stiff and unrealistic looking.

The UGLY -
Parts of game cannot be completed successfully, parts of game cause you to crash to desktop, there is an unofficial patch but it does not work under many circumstances, slow load times, choppy framerates, music and voice sync is off in many situations. The worst part is the collision detection part of the graphics engine. (Translation -You can be stopped dead in your tracks by a measely drinking cup or piece of chair on the floor while just walking, but worst of all while being shot at or chased!!! Talk about ruining the gameplay experience!!!)

This game was not ready for primetime and should never have been released so soon. I think this game will be a good game once an official patch or two have been released and proven successful.

Don't buy this game until these issues have been resolved. TRUST ME ON THIS!!!!!!

Very scary...good thing the long load times give you a break

I simply love this game. It has everything I would want in a RPG. I am roughly half way through my first Vampire clan and am really excited about playing all the others...so you can see the game has great re-play value. The graphics are astounding and i am a real chicken sh*t so I am also getting a ton of cheap scares out of the missions. (look out for that haunted house. I actually had a friend come over to finish playing the level for me, and now she is hooked as bad as me). what else can i say...hmmm...oh, the game is very adult oriented and shouldn't be played by kids under the age of 13, even though the rating is 17+. There is a ton of graphic language and sexual themes, I realize that most kids say worse things on the playground so if you are a parent looking for the Ok then you will just have to use your own discretion.
As for some negatives. The game is so buggy I feel like tearing my hair out at times. I realize that people are out there saying "You just need a decent computer"...well buddy, i have one and it's still like pulling teeth sometimes. Also, the load times suck like no other. I have read most of the reviews about this game and was aware of the extreme load times and thought nothing of it...until i had to load the next area for the millionth time, i'm just glad i didn't have a sharp object handy or i would have killed myself. Other then those faults however it was great and i would highly recommend it to anyone into RPG's, Vampires, FPS, sexy outfits, being evil, scary missions, great replay value, and the opportunity to read a good book while waiting for the load time to go through. :)

deliciously evil

I became a bit obsessed with this game. I played it last summer, in about February and woke up most days wanting to just jump right back into the story. I really felt there were two things that made this game great. First was plot - the storyline was just fantastic and when it finally ended I found myself wanting more. Second, was how ATMOSPHERIC this game was. The best kinds of games are those where you really feel you are there - you can smell the exhaust on the city street, hear the bass thumping out of that club a block away, taste the blood of the whore on who you just fed in that alleyway back there. Dark, immersive graphics and environments, and perhaps most impressive was the soundtrack. A combination of bands' recorded songs and a particularly impressive score made for the game, the music alone is worth getting your hands on. Great stuff. I heard the studio that developed this game closed down. Shame. Another Vampire Masquerade game that picks up where this left off with as much of the same talent behind it as this one would be bloody brilliant (no pun intended).

Over $34 for a game that's almost 4 yrs. old?!

I don't ordinarily write a review like this but the price being charged for this game right now (May 2008) is absurd. Four months ago, it was $9.99 here at Amazon.

The game was a lot of fun and looked great for its time, and it offered better gameplay than many of the "whack-and-slash" melee games we've seen so many of over the years. And $34 would have been a fair price for it, say, 3 1/2 years ago.

But if you still want to buy this game, go to the bargain racks where software is sold and you can buy it easily for five bucks. It is certainly worth that, and, if Amazon still had it available for $9.99, it would be worth that, too, in new condition.

bloodlines when?

Well, I know that most people intrested in the game don't listen to the reviews anyway... I know I don't.

I got this game a bit sceptical, but intrested. And, ya know, I could write you up a big review, but I will keep it short and to the point:

This is the best RPG I have played in a very long time. Good work Troika, and I recomend this game to anyone and everyone.

Yet another great RPG. Keep em' coming.

I'm a big fan of the Vampire World created by White Wolf. Especially the Dark Ages setting. So when they created Vampire: Redemption for the PC I was stoked. Even though that was a great game in itself it just didn't have enought action to please some of us out there. Now when I heard that White Wolf was launching another PC game set in the Vampire World and that it would be set in the Masquerade setting I was a little iffy on the idea of buying it. After seeing some previews though I have to say I was convinced it would be a good game. I had no idea that when I played it, it would turn out to be a great game instead of good. The one great thing of the game was the atmosphere. This game truly made me feel as if I was a vampire in modern day society. From drinking the blood of almost whoever you liked to the dark night clubs, I was totally immersed. This game blows away anything done before even in the movies. The game totally captured the life of a vampire in such vivid detail. Now having the option of choosing to be of a different clan was a plus over the original Vampire game. This meant replayability, which I am big fan of. I played the game as the Ventrue clan, which was fun as heck. I enjoyed the main quest, the overall story was quite fun and the sub quests were a blast. I loved how shooting and fighting required stats and not just mouse clicks. In the end I ended up not using guns much even though I collected everyone I found just to see what each one did. I got really good with the melee weapons and the wide variety of weapons was really fun to play with. I ended up going with the katana and the trench coat. I felt like Morpheus in the matrix just carving up enemy after enemy. The only problem I had with this game was a bug which happened when you tried to leave the Hunter's Cave. But luckily Troika came out with a patch that fixed it and allowed me to finish the game. But I did have a downtime of a couple of weeks and I was unsure if I would ever finish it. I was glad to finish the game. I admit I was expecting a little bit better of an ending, but it was satisying none the least. I tried all the endings and they were all ok, not worth replaying the game just to see the endings. Now replaying the game with a different clan and approaching the game's situations in a different manner is a good enough reason to play the game over. Any RPG fan and maybe even some action fans will enjoy this game. Lets hope this sets a standard for RPG's and that we see many more great ones come out in the following months.

way too buggy

I got this game about a year ago. My computer supports over every minimum requirement and runs fine on a friend's computer w/ less power. This game simply didnt run. The textures were busted, speech and sound was buggy, and more than often froze. Ive since seen the game on another friend's computer which only frustrates further. Ive heard the game is fun, but its hard to say. I suggest you think hard or wait til the price drops to invest in this mess.
