Farah would be pissed....

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 0 / 0

I am relatively new to the whole Prince of Persia line of games. I purchased the Sands of Time about two months ago for twenty bucks and thoroughly enjoyed it. I loved the story and the characters were incredible. I had never seen a more smooth and enjoyable Action/Adventure game.

That said, I can't stand fighting games like Mortal Combat (only because I totally suck at them) and I was a bit skeptic when I read that this new game was going to involve a lot more fighting..... and no more Farah. After beating Warrior Within I can say that it was a blast. Never in one game have I been so completely pissed off, excited, had so much fun, and hated something so much like I did in this game.

This new PoP is an open-ended map and I found myslef hopelessly lost more than a few times. I backtracked through the same parts of the level sometimes three or four times only to find I had been going the right way in the first place. That was the thing I disliked most about this game. Most people have a better sense of direction than I do so it might not even be an issue for you, but, there it is.

Fighting is freaking amazing. I love it, love it, love it. There is a slight learning curve to it, but after you get it, you are one freaking bad-ass mofoky. The flyingbackflipoffthewallmultipleswingofdeath is my favorite move of all time. If you are good at Mortal Combat/Soul Calibur type games you will rip it up. Duel wielding is a skill straight from God. The new Arena Modes are so much fun. I can't even begin to describe the sick joy I have of beheading all those red sado-masochist chicks.

I like the new Prince. It would have been nice if there had been traces of the old prince in him, but oh well, the old prince couldn't duel wield and throw weapons. I was disappointed to see Farah go. I guess I kind of wanted to see the old story continued. The new chick is busty, but creepy. And the bad chick is almost naked, but nasty (she's also a royal pain to kill).

The sound is definitely a problem. My Xbox is getting old, so I think it is due partly to that. I have dropped entire conversations, the metal music comes on at random times, and other times not at all. I like the new music as it gives the game much more adrenaline. It just needed to be tweaked a bit more before release. It's a shame too, because I love Godsmack and the riffs they have going and it is a blast to fight with them.

This game goes quite a bit deeper than you might think, but I won't give away all of the crazy cool stuff you find out and can do in this game. You should for sure at least rent the game and give the fighting engine a chance (because it is worth paying for the game alone). Thanks for reading! Cheers!!

Prince of Persia: Warrior Within is the middle chapter of Ubisoft's new genre-defining trilogy, and is notable for being the installment that upset many fans with its hardcore approach to violence and darker theme. After the events of the first game, the Prince is now being hunted by the minions of time, and must travel to the Island of Time to change his fate.

I personally don't mind the darker approach. Some of the cursing and sexuality seem a bit tacked on, but otherwise the story is compelling (and convoluted) enough that the darker approach makes sense. It helps that the art direction is still stunning, with twisted beasts including giant ogres and a raging griffin. This time the player is allowed to manipulate time to visit environments in the past and present, and Ubisoft did a fantastic job building golden, shining arenas that also turn into crumbling, vine-covered ruins.

Gameplay is also equally refined. The jumping, running, swinging that defined the first game is back, and it's just as fun to get through environments as before. Combat has seen a slight upgrade, as the player now has more control over their swordplay, as well as the ability to deliver some truly satisfying finishing moves. It also helps that Ubisoft cut down on the number of enemies that spawn into an area at a given time, and there's more chances now of skipping combat altogether. It's still not perfect, and is still very annoying at times, but definite improvement has been made.

But the game has one drawback, and that's the amount of backtracking involved during the quest. To be fair, it's not always the backtracking of games like Resident Evil. You reach an area, accomplish a goal, then backtrack out of the area because its built into the story structure. You also go through environments in different time periods, which vary the environmental puzzles and keeps things fresher. However, in the end it still feels like there could've been a bit more variety. And if you want the life upgrades, unlockables, and secret weapons, there's even more backtracking involved. The last quarter of the game ups the difficulty significantly if players don't max out their life bar. And only with all the life upgrades can the game's best ending be achieved.

Overall I enjoyed Warrior Within and found it a worthy installment in the series. A compelling story and fun gameplay win over some repetitive backtracking. If you can accept or look past the game's violence and attempt to be edgy, this one's worth picking up.

Game was amazing till I found out it had a bug which shows up after doing days of work and you want to fight the last boss. Makes me wish I never started it in the first place. I heard it may only happen with games purchased from companies who got cheap versions from overseas. Maybe don't buy it over the internet like I did, from here.

Prince of Persia: Warrior Within - Circa 2004

GOOD:
- Combat expanded from pervious game (Prince of Persia: Sands of Time)
- A few new abilities and acrobatics, as well as some new Enemies types
- Unlockable artwork and mini movies
- Bonus games see Additional Notes below

BAD:
- Combat might be too difficult or confusing for some
- Game glitches every now and then
- Really annoying boss battles

IF IT FITS YOUR TASTE:
- This game is a little more violent and bloody then the pervious game (Prince of Persia: Sands of Time)
- Many people did not like the change in the Prince's attitude, (in the first he was more an innocent soul) In this game the prince comes off more grim and dark
- Music not as theatrical as other Prince of Persia games this ones more hard rock

GAME ITS MOST ASSOCATED TOO:
- Prince of Persia: Sands of Time
- Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones

ADDITIONAL NOTES:
- This game has a hidden ending
- On this Xbox version you can play two different bonus mini-games one to test your combat and one to test your acrobatics, you can also upload your score on to Xbox-live
- A version on this game is also on Sony's PlayStation Portable that is renamed Prince of Persia: Revelations

Fun game until the end...

... After investing 20+ hours into this game, I ran into a glich where the game would not progress to the last level. It occurs after you push the sand queen into the portal. After checking the web for tips I learned that the only way to correct glich was to start all over! What a piece of crap programming!

This game highlights why some people own pc's and not consoles. Amazing graphics, complete frustration to play. It's like the movie groundhog day.. you do the same thing again and again and again until on the 38th try you get the split second timing on the exact combo to move forward.

Added to the above, the camera angles get really annoying -- you cant look to see where you are going half the time, you just need to have played the level 20 times to know the route and avoid unseen obstacles.

If you're over 12 years old skip this one. Its just too much work.

Just awful, the forced prespective and auto camera make this one virtually unplayable. I would have paid the used game store to take this one back.
