Fun game until the end...

... After investing 20+ hours into this game, I ran into a glich where the game would not progress to the last level. It occurs after you push the sand queen into the portal. After checking the web for tips I learned that the only way to correct glich was to start all over! What a piece of crap programming!

The Second installment of the Prince of Persia Series, Warrior Within's combat and satisfyingly long campaign have improved on the Sands of time, but the nice prince we see from the previous game drastically turned into a darker and more arrogant prince.

Warrior Within continues the prince's story from last year's game, so, because the prince has unleashed the mystical Sands of Time, he finds himself pursued relentlessly by a menacing time monster called the Dahaka.

The biggest new addition to the game is a deeper combat mechanic. The prince is now capable of dozens of different weapon combos, and these are context sensitive depending on whether you are holding a single weapon or dual-wielding two weapons. With a single weapon in hand, you can grab enemies and throw them. You can even strangle them. Dual-wielding takes away your throw options, but it lets you perform much more powerful weapon combos. What's interesting is that the effect of your moves changes depending on what type of weapon you have in your left hand, which is the prince's less-dominant hand.

+ Fast paced combat, more fighting moves and combos
+ Longer Campaign
+ Beautifully crafted levels
+ Same intense puzzle solving, and acrobatics

- Boss fights a repeititive
- Lost sense of the prince's dignified character
- xbox version - audio glitches

Overall Prince of Persia is an excellent sequel, and is a must by for people who love action/adventure games.

It was just "OK"

Is pretty obvious to anyone who has played Sands of Time and this game to know that it lacks in quite a few areas. One thing I did find more in depth, however, was the story. This again, seemed to make the game worse. It made the prince, the story...everything seem dark. The game wasn't suttle about this either. It was like a totally new experience. One thing that seemed like a huge change from Sands of Time, in my opinion, was the very open feel of this game. In Sands of Time, you seemed to go from point A to point B with a clear path in between. This game, however, was very open-ended and I seemed to have to back track quite a bit. One good thing that comes from the open-ended approach was the length of the game; it was fairly long for an adventure game and seemed to start and end at exactly the right time. The thing I find most appealing about Warrior Within is the combat system. Although it is much the same as before, it is at the same time somewhat different. In this game, you can dual wield two weapons which is very fun. The combat system is much more free than before too which allows you to create your own combos and fighting techniques. Although the story and main character are much darker than before, the gameplay was still Prince of Persia in style. So, overall, the game was still much enjoyable.

Presentation
Like I said before, the story is much darker than Sands of Time and while this isn't entirely bad, it seems like a bit much.

Graphics
The graphics are very nice in this game. The environments are very open ended and look pretty realistic.

Sound
The voice acting in the game is on spot. Well done. The music, however, was really loud and kind of obnoxious.

Gameplay
Again, the gameplay didn't change too much, so it is very much still typical Prince of Persia platform/combat style.

Lasting Appeal
Much longer than the first and there are unlockables and 2 bonus modes to play.

A Twist of Fate

Warrior Within is the second game in the current generation series of three Prince of Persia games (to date) released by Ubi.

The story resumes a few years after the conclusion of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. The Prince is now war hardened from the past years in battle. He now has a menacing style and persona when compared to his previously unthreatening appearance and innocent soul. Returning to his home of Babylon, the prince finds that he is being hunted down by a supernatural beast that is intent on destroying him at all costs. What it all really boils down to is that the prince created a rift in the space-time continuum as a result of his foolish actions in the previous game. Now Death is intent on hunting down the Prince. He must find a way to alter his fate before impending doom catches up to him.

To get right to the point - the game is another stunner! Every aspect of the game has been redesigned and tweaked to create an experience that rivals the previous title. The game play mechanics are extremely fluid and intuitive and the fighting system is much more complex than that found in Sands of Time but just as easy to use. The game is graphically gorgeous once again as it seems Ubi always pushes the visual envelope to the very edge. Everything about the game is fantastic with the exception of one thing, the music. In their efforts to make the Prince of Persia series more dark and burly, Ubi errantly opted to implement some not so fantastic heavy rock music into the game. That is quite likely just my opinion and is really not a major issue, but one to be aware of if you are expecting more of the same from the last game. All things considered, Prince of Persia: Warrior Within is another superb title that every action fan should own.

Alright game, but can get annoying

This is the first prince of persia i got, i never played the first one but i heard it was really good so i decided to get this one. From my opinion this really isnt my kind of game. I thought it was pretty bad and got annoying and boring.
STORY: A few yearws after the first chapter. The prince has returned home to babylon, to find himself hunted by a supernatural creature bent on his destruction. Forced to live a life on the run, he seeks councel from the Old Man, who explains that his actions have spawned a creature known as the Dahaka. The Duhaka now wants to end his life to solve a problem. Now the prince must travel back in time and stop the sands from ever being created.
The story line is ok, but it starts you off with no clue what is going on, u just see the prince running from a shadow it seems. There aren't that many cinematechs and cut-scenes so the story seems to drift into nowhere. And this is a great problem with games because it is the story line that keeps you interested even if the game has good gameplay.
The gameplauy is another midpoint. ITs ok, from what i thought. I thought it was way to repetitive. I mean its like this: walk in a room, kill the bad guys then find a way out of the room and into the next. And its the same thing over and over again. You keep on dealing with the same enemies over and over and there is barely any new ones. And the game gets confusing and annoying, like say you are hangin from a wall. You have to think so much: ok well i can either run up the wall and get on that platform or run of the wall and grab that or swing on that to get there or slide on this or walk on this or reverse time and try a super jump....I mean it just gets rediculous that you can do all these things and when you get to the point you dont kno which one you have to use to get on the platform. And its a long period of time before you get any actions when u are trying to figure out how to get in the next room, jumpin on this, climbing on that. Its just too much and after you die you have to start from ur last save point, they dont even give you checkpoints and you will fins yourself doing the same things over and over again until u beat it the right way. The other thing i hate is the camera angles, everything is so far away and the enemies look like little bugs, you cant see any detail on any characters while you are playing.
The controls are good but get confusing. What i mean by this is that there is way to many things jumps and kicks and running techniques you can do so you will find yourself going "wait is the white button to roll or is it the Y button?" and you will hit the wrong button and end up by accident jumping off the cliff and having to start at your last checkpoint unless you wanna use your rewind time thing, but you end up running out of that a lot. Or you will also be like this "is A-A-A a tripple jump or is it A-B-Y?" there is too many combos to remember.
The graphics i thought were only good in the cut-scense. In the actual game play they suck. The characters and people even look odd, like there heads are huge and legs are really short, they look like cartoon characters. And even if the graphics were good you cant see any detail cause the camera is too far away to see.
This game is just not for me, i mean if you like the type where you need to find a way out of a room kind of game then be my guest and by this game but it just gets boring especially since all these new types of more fun games out there.

Prince of Persia: Warrior Within - Circa 2004

GOOD:
- Combat expanded from pervious game (Prince of Persia: Sands of Time)

- Unlockable artwork and mini movies
- Bonus games see Additional Notes below

BAD:
- Combat might be too difficult or confusing for some
- Game glitches every now and then
- Really annoying boss battles

IF IT FITS YOUR TASTE:
- This game is a little more violent and bloody then the pervious game (Prince of Persia: Sands of Time)
- Many people did not like the change in the Prince's attitude, (in the first he was more an innocent soul) In this game the prince comes off more grim and dark

GAME ITS MOST ASSOCATED TOO:
- Prince of Persia: Sands of Time
- Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones

Game was amazing till I found out it had a bug which shows up after doing days of work and you want to fight the last boss. Makes me wish I never started it in the first place. I heard it may only happen with games purchased from companies who got cheap versions from overseas. Maybe don't buy it over the internet like I did, from here.

Prince of Persia: Warrior Within is the middle chapter of Ubisoft's new genre-defining trilogy, and is notable for being the installment that upset many fans with its hardcore approach to violence and darker theme. After the events of the first game, the Prince is now being hunted by the minions of time, and must travel to the Island of Time to change his fate.

I personally don't mind the darker approach. Some of the cursing and sexuality seem a bit tacked on, but otherwise the story is compelling (and convoluted) enough that the darker approach makes sense. It helps that the art direction is still stunning, with twisted beasts including giant ogres and a raging griffin. This time the player is allowed to manipulate time to visit environments in the past and present, and Ubisoft did a fantastic job building golden, shining arenas that also turn into crumbling, vine-covered ruins.

Gameplay is also equally refined. The jumping, running, swinging that defined the first game is back, and it's just as fun to get through environments as before. Combat has seen a slight upgrade, as the player now has more control over their swordplay, as well as the ability to deliver some truly satisfying finishing moves. It also helps that Ubisoft cut down on the number of enemies that spawn into an area at a given time, and there's more chances now of skipping combat altogether. It's still not perfect, and is still very annoying at times, but definite improvement has been made.

But the game has one drawback, and that's the amount of backtracking involved during the quest. To be fair, it's not always the backtracking of games like Resident Evil. You reach an area, accomplish a goal, then backtrack out of the area because its built into the story structure. You also go through environments in different time periods, which vary the environmental puzzles and keeps things fresher. However, in the end it still feels like there could've been a bit more variety. And if you want the life upgrades, unlockables, and secret weapons, there's even more backtracking involved. The last quarter of the game ups the difficulty significantly if players don't max out their life bar. And only with all the life upgrades can the game's best ending be achieved.

Overall I enjoyed Warrior Within and found it a worthy installment in the series. A compelling story and fun gameplay win over some repetitive backtracking. If you can accept or look past the game's violence and attempt to be edgy, this one's worth picking up.
