I went to bed after midnight most nights playing this game it had me.Again I am going to emphasise the importance of GT3 being the benchmark of all racing games because it is.SEGA GT came close. The grahics-4/GT3-5;the handing-4/GT3-5;the tracks-3 too narrow except for the oval, not enough only variations from one to another/GT3-5;concept-5 very good especially the damage costs incurred/GT3-5.The windy tracks got a little annoying at times but I enjoyed the licence test very challenging.Oh one last thing the AI gets a 5/GT3-4.The AI gave you good run for your money and I mean spend money to get your car up to closely winning a race.
Please buy however Grand Turismo lives forever.

This game is a HUGE dissapointment!

I was looking forward to this game so bad that it was all I could think about for days before it came out. Well, I was greatly dissapointed! The graphics are BLAH at best. The game play is choppy and bumpy. The XBox processor can do much better than this. When are game designers going to utalize the XBox's true potential? This game looks like junk and is NOT fun...this makes me sad. I really wanted to like it. RENT IT FIRST!

When Need for Speed Hot Persuit 2 failed to deliver, I turned toward the X-Box Sega GT 2002. After 2 straight hours of playing this game in the store I was hooked.

However, when I bought the X-Box and came home with the game, I found that after many more hours of play, the game can become very, very frustrating. Once inside career mode you can buy a cheap car and upgrade it for a slight performance difference. Once you've won a few races you can buy other cars or maybe you want to play in the Official Races.

The Official Races were a complete mistery to me and after getting my B Licence, I wish I would have never played them. All the Licence's seem to do is make the difficulty go up as well as the cash for winning a race. However, the rate at which difficulty goes up is not matched by the money. By the time you hit B Licence, you'll find the CPU Car's shooting way ahead of you from the beginning of the race and cornering at speeds you'd never be able to, even though they may have the same car as you with the same spec's. This is a very cheap way of making the game harder. The worst part about it is once you gain licences, your screwed and can't go back to old licences (difficulties) unless you start over.

One thing that you learn early in this game is that research doesn't help much. After researching the best car to buy out of all the cars available for $27,000-30,000 price range, I found that the Camero was the best buy. Sure enough it ran well in the races, about as well as any of the other cars.

Oh and did you know, Damage is inexistant! No damage modeling in this game what so ever, atleast none that I can see. The only form of "damage" is a meter in the top right of the screen that says how much health the car has left before you hit "max damage". What max damage means, I have yet to find out, since you can race with max damage on just as well as you can with perfect health. Also physics are pretty nill when it comes to bumping around with other cars. Bumping against another car will make your health go down just as fast as if you plow straight into a wall. Yet the car still appears to be untouched.

In short I was ready to chuck my new X-Box out the window the day after I bought it because of this game.

However, if you are able to look past these problems, you will find beautiful graphics and a fair sound track. The game interface is only mediocre.

Yet I pledge my word that on the [money] I spent on this system, I will attempt to see only the good side of this game, in which case this game is a small piece of heaven, very very small.

Ok, Sega GT 2002. When I started playing this game it looked good. Good graphics, decent sound, and thats about it. Getting deeper into this game in career mode, I bought a Vette and maxed it out. After going through with a breeze, I begin racing at a new license level. After frustrating experiences with the license test, I finally beat it (with a not smiling controller.)
So I enter a race and race. I take off with my 733hp going. But oh no, a little less that 200hp Honda Civic that sounds like bees in a can comes roaring past me. Speechless, I try again with the 6 speed takeoff trick. Killing it off the line, but after the 3rd turn, you can hear the bees in a can coming, along with other ... ECONOMY CARS. This game is very unrealistic, there are not enough tuning options for gearheads like me, and good lord, unless you make saves like me of every car you get ready to sell, the car selection in quick start is very limited. I wouldn't have this game if it didn't come free, and the game is little more worth than the price I paid for this game. If your a rice, and you think Honda/Celica/Mitsubishi is fast, buy this game. But for true car lovers/muscle car lovers/or someone who justs wants to race, avoid this. Hope this helps :)

Wow!

I've played Gran Trourismo, GT2 & GT3. I've also played Sega GT on the Dreamcast. Too bad my PS2 will get no play time for awhile.

Sega GT 2002 comes no where close to Gran Turismo in terms of control and gameplay. Sega GT has better graphics than GT 3, and thats about it. If you have played GT 3, and you loved it, this game will dissappoint! Dont get me wrong, i had my share of fun with Sega GT, but Sega GT is not as FUN AS GT3! There are couple of things that really bugged me. Some of the cars have really messed up ingame physics (collision with other cars), and you the customizaton of your car isnt as deep. Control of all the cars feel almost the same, its just depends on matter of speed. The tracks in the game doesnt have any challenge at all, you can master any turn with in 2 laps (unlike GT 3, where each turn depends on car's balance). One really good thing about this game is that if you "bump" into walls or other cars, you do get damaged. Although the damage isnt visible on cars, they do cost you money!! In all, i got so tired of GT 3, and i was hoping that SEGA GT would be a really awesome game, but in the end i was really dissappointed! To avoid any kind of dissappointment, give it a rent!

after every turn all i could say was "dawg"

i was begging to get this game so much after what i heard about it...when i got it i started to play (i really sucked but was killing the other cars)...i was like dawg these grphics are so dang good...i've seen that the other people were complaineing about the lacke of cars but i guess they didnt play the game enought to find out that you have to unlock cars...unlike grand tourismo 1,2 and i think 3 you are not always faster then the other cars...if you want proff then try to get a b lisence with any biggener car... after a while they started killing my skyline with over 450hp!!!!it was a civic T/R and a few others...i was like dawg...u can buy used parts athough there not as reliabe...u acutally get tire wear depending how hard you push the car and it does not reset after every race like gran tourismo 1,2 and i think 3...u get suspention wear engine wear and brake wear all depinding on how hard u push the car...i was just like wow. after every race u can take pictures and hang them in your garage and put trophies....buy stuff for your garage (car jacks,a boombox, ect.)u can buy replays to see how the others cars are..umm....and a whole lot of other junk.well i would recommed this game to people who admire cars (like me) and want to see somthing better than gran torismo 1, 2, and i think 3...

it doesnt ketch up with project gotham which is 90 miles an hour better than this one. the cars you start off with are not enjoyable and the driving is fine but it just doesn't have the potential of project gotham racing. stay away!

WOWWWW i loved need need for speed. i loved gta3 i love having todays and yesteryears hotest cars at there max. This game is so awsome. There are every car you can imagine. vipers ford gt 40's and everything else hatch backs luxury cars even the berlina costra its only 75 horsepower but it is a prize car just to say you won it. my gt90 is at over 1200 hp i cant wait to see segas next game the gt 2003. By the way when you excell on lisence tests your fellow racers get modified cars. i might make this suggestion the drag races have to musle cars you can win. if you race through 3 seiries you will get both. ths chevell although it might not look like much can be upgraded to over 700 horsepower definitly a must have to help you. THE BEST CAR IS THE GT40 COncept.

Sega GT 2002 is a very fun and frustrating game. When i first got it in the Xbox bundle, i played it right away instead of that retarted Jet Set Radio Future. Anyway, the first time i played it, it was very challenging. The graphics are awesome and the control may take a little bit to get used to, but you will have fun. when doing Sega GT 2002 mode, you must choose the right car and parts, or you WILL FAIL! I've failed twice, but on my third time (which is now) i bought a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI. Now, i only have 3 more races to go until i get to the second season. For all the people who said that this game was ... hard to play, Its because the dont understand the concept of real-life street racing and having to manage your parts. You get to win money if you win races (Most money is in first place ) so you can buy new cars or upgrade/repair parts. I highly reccomend this game to people who want a realistic racing game. good luck and cya later.
