I'm waiting for Quest For Glory 6

Why are you reading the reviews? just go there and buy it!
I played QFG1 first and I became crazy about it. I started playing QFG2, 3, 4 and finally the best of all, 5. For a 1998-RPGame it is the best I played. You'll start the game talking to your friend "Erasmus" who will teleport you to the Kingdom of Silmaria, which "was a pieceful kingdom... until the dragon came" the king of Silmaria was assassinated and armies of eivil are attacking Silmaria; a miserable situation. Hey, they need a HERO!
Ofcourse you are the the hero the Silmarians are waiting for. You have many stuff to do their; an entire island is to explore. After exploring, you will enter the Rites of Rulership. Missions to be accomplished to win the throne of Silmaia. You need to be well trained because you will do a lot of fighting, steeling, blackjacking, and spell casting. After all you will become the king of Silmaria (if you want to). Then you'll save your character for Quest For Glory 6 which I am waiting for for a long time. I'm sure you will do so when you finish QFG5 Dragon Fire. You don't wanna hear the sound, you really don't wanna hear it, because you won't sleep without hearing it 10000000.....times and if you can wistle you will find yourself wistling the music all the time(just like me!).The graphics are excellent and everything is just great. I hope I made a clear description to help you. Well, I hope to become a RolePlayingGame programer in sierra. A company with such a genius staff who can create such a game is NOT a usual company.
It must be the best!

A great game in a great tradition

The editorial review above is a little misleading. In no way is Quest for Glory - whether it's game 1 or game 5 or anything in between - intended to be Dungeons & Dragons-like. Rather, it is a unique blend of RPG and adventure. This is a game which requires THINKING, and there are often a number of different ways in which to tackle the quests in the game.
To begin with, the player has four options re character: fighter, mage, thief, or paladin (imported). Naturally there will be different skills involved.
The hero finds himself yanked to Silmaria (based loosely on ancient Greek culture) to answer a call for help. Someone's assassinated King Justinian, and to find the assassin is the hero's major job. However, he must also compete in a Leadership challenge, consisting of seven rites to prove his fitness. He has the option of also competing for the position of Chief Thief if he is so inclined, and using his fighting techniques in the arena. Some interesting side-quests can also be filled - for full points, the side-quests ought to be followed.
The graphics are beautiful, the atmospere of the game both exciting and with an almost fairy-tale quality - and it's filled with cute little one-liners and funny responses in the great tradition of Sierra adventure games.
It's infinitely more rewarding to play this game without reading a walkthrough - but if you get stuck, there are some excellent sites online to give you either hints or "spoilers" (detailed instructions for a particular step). The only quibble I had was that I felt Sierra had rushed the ending of this game somewhat. Yet in terms of enjoyment, it's a gorgeous game that focuses more on great storyline than kill'em slash'em games made today. For a charming and challenging game in the style that alas is not often produced today (let's hope things change), I highly recommend QfG5: Dragon Fire.

THE BEST RPG EVER!

This truly is it. There is no other game that effectivley combines the previous games and truly comes up with a greater and more exciting conclusion. There are so many subquests and mysteries while on your quest to beomce the King of Silmaria. There's action, adventure, romance, and gorgeous 3-D graphics! You can choose you own destiny while being any one of four characters. I am a total rpg fan and I loved it! This is a game that you will truly want to play over and over again.

A Great Game

I liked the story a lot and the action of the game. It mixes adventure and action with a good plot, which is just how I like it. The graphics are pretty good, too.

Excellent conclusion to a masterful series.

While the game is very good on it's own, it is much better when viewed as the end of one of the best game series I have ever played. You'll have a greater sense of accomplishment if you've taken your little hero of Spielburg through four lands and now to Silmaria to aid more land in the grand tradition of heros the world over. However, there is actually no difference between playing an imported character or a brand new one. It has become incredibly easy to pump up your attributes quickly, and even your starting characteristics are almost enough to get you through the game safely, although the thief class needs to practice his abilities.

The story is a bit cliche, but has enough unique twists to allow it to remain interesting. The ability to marry other characters is cool, although I never have figured out how to do it.

If you are a fan of the series, you'll love the game. If you're looking for an amazing, innovative RPG, look elsewhere. This game is a fun strategy/RPG filler.

What happened?

I'm not deterred by the fact that this game is so old now no one is likely to read my review. I feel like I have to put my two cents in. I am a huge fan of the Quest for Glory series and couldn't wait to get my hands on "Dragon Fire." I wish now that I had just quit at QFG4. When I began playing Dragon Fire I wondered if I had mistakenly ordered the wrong game, as there was nothing remotely similar to the first four. I am a firm believer in the old saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Sierra took everything I loved about QFG and changed it into an aloof, tedious, and downright disheartening game. The characters with whom you interact are mind-numbingly dull and inpersonal, the constant-running clock was distracting, the battle/travelling interface was unfamiliar. The one thing I was looking forward to is choosing a wife at the end of the game. I must have missed a conversation or item I was supposed to have, because the game ended after the dragon battle with no mention of a wife. I had to look at a walkthrough to see what I was missing. That's another thing--in the first QFG games the play may have been a bit more linear, but I found myself having to cheat several times on this game. How else would I know to bring an urn (I forget the Greek name) to Hydra island to collect goo for my hot-air balloon? Once you leave the island there is no going back, and if you don't have the goo you find out later on in the game that you can't proceed. Unless there is something else I missed. I wish I were a computer programmer so I could make my own version. To put it bluntly, this game sucks.

A mediocre end to the series.

I've loved Quest For Glory since the first, but this last one did not at all live up to any QFG fan's expectations. The storyline itself remains more or less true to the earlier games, but the gameplay reeks of being tweaked to be more like traditional RPGs, most likely thanks to the new executives who ran Sierra after Cendant took over. The soundtrack is unimpressive, I'd go so far as to say the MIDI music from QFG2 and 3 was better than the digital music for QFG5. Overall, unless you're a fan of the earlier games, you probably won't enjoy this one very much.

On that note, Sierra is stupidly discontinuing sale and production of the QFG collection (as well as the collections of King's Quest, Leisure Suit Larry, and their other main series from the 80s and early 90s), so Amazon and other retail stores are not going to be selling them anymore. I'd really recommend looking around for them in various places that sell used software (e.g. [URL]); they're really excellent games.

OLDIE BUT A GOLDIE

This is one of those games I never get sick of playing. Due to it being rather old the graphics are nothing like newer games but the game play is there, so much so I end up wishing the game was longer come the ending. There are some side quests for you to do that gets you some rewards. Few puzzles and other fun things.

Also you can be 4 different classes Paladin, thief, wizard, warrior. Personally I like playing the rogue at the moment because there are more little side things for you to do that way. Not really a start char tho. =)

But to give you alittle bit of an idea it of what it's about. You come to this kingdom when it's king is killed and they are having a contest to see who will be crowned king. You are told of what happened when you arrive at the palace from an old friend if you've been playing the series. You have to pay to enter but some of it is taken care of for you so that's alittle less gold you have to drum up. (Side note: if your the thief you can just rob the bank one of the times and that will easily cover you costs with plenty to spare to help you gear up.)

If you want a bit of a challenge and don't mind older graphics. Give this a shot. =)

A new take for the end of the series.

This sadly was the end of the QFG series, and to be honest it didn't sell very well, too many people didn't like the new graphics that came with it making it look like a final fantasy game. However all Sierra was doing was updating it and being creative, and they came up with an amazing end game! It was like a 3 year pregnancy that took a fortune to make i'm sure, as basically all of the old characters come back from other games, a great reunion, a new story, the Hero can get married, and everything, and even the ability to import a paladin even if you don't have one. This is an under rated Classic that has stood it's ground. I say if you can find it, get it.

My favorite RPG of all time

I have owned this game for a few years now, and still I've found nothing I enjoy more. I have noticed some reviewers saying that QFG5 is nothing but a big inside joke with a hard to follow plot. I disagree. In fact, I have never even played any of the previous releases in the QFG series, and this one still ranks as my favorite. Even though I am not familiar with the characters from the previous installments, their appearance in this one doesn't seem out of place. You become familiar with the hero's past and just enough backstory is added so that new players can enjoy it just as much as the old. As for criticisms that the plot is confusing, I also disagree. I never had any problems following the plot except that there was one puzzle I couldn't solve without eventually seeking help. I knew what I had to do, but a mental block kept me just out of reach from the solution. My sister played this and figured out the solution immediately, so I think it's a flaw in the gamer, not the developers, so to speak. Ah, but where was I? Oh yes. Wonderful, magical, atmospheric game that is second to none!
