One of my most favorite games

The entire Quest for Glory series is awesome, especially if you played the games as they came out and the graphics were state of the art for that time.

QFG gives you the options of playing the game through 3 types of characters. You can be a fighter, magic user and thief. Later, in QFG 2, you can become a paladin and any imported character can become a paladin. In fact, QFG5 gives you a saved paladin character! Each character has different skills and solutions to the problems around him.

Plus, you can start with one character in QFG1 and build up his skills and then use that same character to play any of the following games. It is easier to do this since the entire series is available. QFG1-4 is packaged together in a collection, while QFG5 is sold separately.

There are mulitple cheats that you can find online, along with descriptions of the silly clowns in the game. There is also a place where you can download saved games to play as Elsa or Magmum.

My only point of contention with QFG5 is the multitude of previous characters. While it is nice to see them, the fact that there are so many irritates me. I would prefer meeting new and unique characters.

Quest for Glory 5, I hear, is the last of the series. I do believe that some fans are trying to create their own QFG game.

Anyways, if you haven't played this game, I recommend that you try. If you have, another series I recommend is the King Quest series.

TRUELY AWESOME

I like role playing games but only certain types. Games like Zelda, who's fighting is continuous. There are those games with alternative fighting (where you make a move and must wait for your opponent to make his move). I'm sure that those games are interesting but not my type.

Quest for Glory V was the first computer role playing game I've played and I love it darely. The fighting is continuous and soooooo awesome. I was truly stunned. I recommend anyone who love role playing games to buy it.

If you've never played 1-4 (like me) then you may not be too sure about the history. But QFG V is about this hero (you) trying to solve a murder mystery (who killed the king) and fighting the dragon (once he awakes). It is my favorate game ever (although it is my first). I've played it many times. My favorate character is of course, the wizard. But you can choose from a total of four (including the paladin whom you can use).

Bottom line, Great game, neat story line, it may be tough without a guide, but that's why its called a role playing game. I hope you have fun playing the WIZARD.

Excellent conclusion to a masterful series.

While the game is very good on it's own, it is much better when viewed as the end of one of the best game series I have ever played. You'll have a greater sense of accomplishment if you've taken your little hero of Spielburg through four lands and now to Silmaria to aid more land in the grand tradition of heros the world over. However, there is actually no difference between playing an imported character or a brand new one. It has become incredibly easy to pump up your attributes quickly, and even your starting characteristics are almost enough to get you through the game safely, although the thief class needs to practice his abilities.

The story is a bit cliche, but has enough unique twists to allow it to remain interesting. The ability to marry other characters is cool, although I never have figured out how to do it.

If you are a fan of the series, you'll love the game. If you're looking for an amazing, innovative RPG, look elsewhere. This game is a fun strategy/RPG filler.

I'm waiting for Quest For Glory 6

Why are you reading the reviews? just go there and buy it!
I played QFG1 first and I became crazy about it. I started playing QFG2, 3, 4 and finally the best of all, 5. For a 1998-RPGame it is the best I played. You'll start the game talking to your friend "Erasmus" who will teleport you to the Kingdom of Silmaria, which "was a pieceful kingdom... until the dragon came" the king of Silmaria was assassinated and armies of eivil are attacking Silmaria; a miserable situation. Hey, they need a HERO!
Ofcourse you are the the hero the Silmarians are waiting for. You have many stuff to do their; an entire island is to explore. After exploring, you will enter the Rites of Rulership. Missions to be accomplished to win the throne of Silmaia. You need to be well trained because you will do a lot of fighting, steeling, blackjacking, and spell casting. After all you will become the king of Silmaria (if you want to). Then you'll save your character for Quest For Glory 6 which I am waiting for for a long time. I'm sure you will do so when you finish QFG5 Dragon Fire. You don't wanna hear the sound, you really don't wanna hear it, because you won't sleep without hearing it 10000000.....times and if you can wistle you will find yourself wistling the music all the time(just like me!).The graphics are excellent and everything is just great. I hope I made a clear description to help you. Well, I hope to become a RolePlayingGame programer in sierra. A company with such a genius staff who can create such a game is NOT a usual company.
It must be the best!

A great game in a great tradition

The editorial review above is a little misleading. In no way is Quest for Glory - whether it's game 1 or game 5 or anything in between - intended to be Dungeons & Dragons-like. Rather, it is a unique blend of RPG and adventure. This is a game which requires THINKING, and there are often a number of different ways in which to tackle the quests in the game.
To begin with, the player has four options re character: fighter, mage, thief, or paladin (imported). Naturally there will be different skills involved.
The hero finds himself yanked to Silmaria (based loosely on ancient Greek culture) to answer a call for help. Someone's assassinated King Justinian, and to find the assassin is the hero's major job. However, he must also compete in a Leadership challenge, consisting of seven rites to prove his fitness. He has the option of also competing for the position of Chief Thief if he is so inclined, and using his fighting techniques in the arena. Some interesting side-quests can also be filled - for full points, the side-quests ought to be followed.
The graphics are beautiful, the atmospere of the game both exciting and with an almost fairy-tale quality - and it's filled with cute little one-liners and funny responses in the great tradition of Sierra adventure games.
It's infinitely more rewarding to play this game without reading a walkthrough - but if you get stuck, there are some excellent sites online to give you either hints or "spoilers" (detailed instructions for a particular step). The only quibble I had was that I felt Sierra had rushed the ending of this game somewhat. Yet in terms of enjoyment, it's a gorgeous game that focuses more on great storyline than kill'em slash'em games made today. For a charming and challenging game in the style that alas is not often produced today (let's hope things change), I highly recommend QfG5: Dragon Fire.

Quest for glory, never let it go

to start,i own version 1.0 of quest for glory 5 and still knowing this, this game is one of the best games wich i have played ever.Sunny silmarias story of tragedy and sorrow is a very strong setting to the game. The story of silmaria and its troublessets out and gradually comes to a heartbeating climax of saving silmaria foreva,i was gladly pleased with what i viewed.
Although, within the game there was a few 'bugs' as in errors, i do not know if they are true but i have read about them, unfortounatly you cannot marry katrina(wether this is true i am not to say as i have never tested it)the game may crash as you enter the dragon pool and many more, little, glitches.Overall the game was very pleaseing and as my title says it will be very sad that there will not be another QUEST FOR GLORY.i have heard of her06 wich is apparently a carry on from qg5 but i am sure that the original quests will be very missed

Best RPG ever! The BEST in the Series!

I LOVED this game! I thought that all of the games in the series were pretty good, but when I played this game I was blown away! It has amazing graphics, awesome voices for each character, and an interesting plot. There is mystery, adventure, and even romance in this game. I loved being each character, but the thief is the BEST! For each character there is a different game plot. Choose from Wizard, Paladin, Thief, or Fighter. If you buy this game you won't regret it. I keep playing it oevr and over. It's that good!!!

Don't Miss This Game

When I first played this game, I was completely blown away. Everything about this game is perfect. The graphics are great, the music is spellbinding, the plot is riveting, the characters seem to have there own life, and, as a bonus, there is much more than one way to finish the game.

This game also gives you freedom of choice, which is something you don't see much of in games these days. You can design your main character by giving him skills in different areas (such as swimming, climbing, and magic-casting), you can accomplish the seven tasks in any way you want to as long as you finish them all, and you can choose what profession your character has (Wizard, warrior, theif or paladin). You can buy whatever you want as long as you have the right amount of money, develope relationships with whoever you want, and best of all, your choices determine how the game ultimately ends!

Besides the freedom of choice, you can also explore several different locations on a plethora of exotic locales, including (but not limited to) a grove of tree-women (dryads), the lost city of Atlantis, and the beautiful city of Silmaria, where most of the action takes place.

Overall: this game is great. There is no reason to skip over it. What are you waiting for? Buy this game NOW!

The perfect ending to the series

I like this game very much, although I agree with what most of the other reviewers said about this game, even those that didn't like it.

This game is as much fun to play and as engrossing as any of Sierra's best games. Right now, I am replaying this game after it has been out for a few years, and I can see it with new eyes. I feel that Sierra couldn't have made a better sequel to the series, and they have avoided both selling out and making an entirely unmarketable game.

Incidentally, I have also found out that an independent company called 'Tierra' is creating a remake of QFG2, which may be my favorite of the series. Another group is making an independent sequel called 'Hero 6.' Maybe the series isn't dead after all!

Anyway, if you like the classic adventure games, this may be the last of them. I personally think Dragon Fire ends the series very well.

a cumulative quest for glory

as far as i know, q4g5 has elements of 3/2. i haven't really been playing the game long enuf to see if 1/4 are there, but i haven't seen many other erasmus/his rat. does anyone know where the thief's guild is/how do you give sarra her basket back--i've tried everything...... anyway, this game is more fun than i thought it'd be. i paid an extra [money] for it thru [website], but it was well worth it.
