Awesome game.

At first, I only got Dragon Fire just to play it, beat it, and say I had beaten the entire Quest for Glory series. I played it a little when I first got it, and I wasn't too impressed, except for the graphics(the graphics are bloody fantastic). After I started the rites of rulership, the game pick up speed REALLY fast. I stopped playing after the second rite though. I got stuck at a point. This isn't exactly a game where you are told what you need to do, it takes a lot of figuring it out yourself. I just recently completed the entire game, it took about 2 days of non stop playing and doing things over and over again until I figured out what I had to do.

An important thing to remember is that if you have not played the first 4 Quest for Glories, this one won't make much sense to you. I suggest you get the QFG collection before getting this. It will both add to the fun of the game, and also you'll understand it better. Several people I know just got the game, and played, and hated it, because they hadn't play the first four, but I let them borrow my collection cd, after beating all of them, they thought very highly of QFG5. I don't know where you could get a collection from, amazon doesn't sell it, and no shop online I know of does either.

I admit that there is a little bit of corneyness in the game, just the fact that the people in the town consistently refer to you as "The Prince of Shapeir"(refer to Quest for Glory 2) or "Hero", which I find really irritating.

Here is a basic run through of the game for you: The point of the game is that you're trying to catch an assassin and the person who employed him. So you are sent to compete in the rites of rulership, which is a series of quests, because it is suspected that the one who killed the king is supporting a person in the rites of rulership, and will make sure that they win. Years earlier, before your character arrives to save the day, there was a dragon that came and invaded the kingdom, so they made some magic pillars, that would weaken the dragon when put up, and make it leave them alone. So now, the pillars that were placed up are being broken, an thereby useless, letting the dragon regain it's strengh. If the dragon gets free, it is thought taht it will be extremely angry for being drove into hiding, so these pillars being broken is not a good thing. So, you start the rites, the first rite is to free a fishing village from Roman invaders(Yes, this game is set around the time when the Romans where trying to take over everything). This is by far the easist rite, all you have to do is hack and slash your way through the entire rite. The next rite however gets a little more tricky, you are sent to kill or capture(whichever you prefer) a gerneral who is comanding the Roman invaders, and return with his shield. This one again is pretty simple, just hack and slash all they way through it. The next rite however, is not very easy at all. You have to fly to an island, and kill a three headed dragon, called "The Hydra", which can regenerate very quickly from almost any injury. One of your competitors in the rites will show up, and offer you some help, which you kind of have to accept. You attack the dragon, and cut off one of it's heads, and she(Elsa, your competitor) will burn it where the head was cut off in order to keep it from growing back. Then repeat that two more times for the other two heads. Then take the teeth to show that you killed it. The next rite is easy, all you have to do is go to an island, to see an oricale and put a drachma in some water, so then the oricale will speak to you, otherwise she is just a statu. Getting there is tricky, though. The next rite is REALLY, REALLY HARD. You have to go to the underworld, and get some lethe water, some styx water, and you have to free a soul from the dead. You have two choices, you can free Erana(refer to quest for glory 1 or 4) or Katrina(refer to quest for glory 4). It may not seem hard, but you're health is constantly dropping, so you have to keep taking health potions to keep from dying. Then comes the last rite, you have the fun of finding the assassin and killing him, then letting the person who hired him, kill himself...and here comes what you've been waiting for, you FINALLY get to see and kill the dragon that the game is based off of. You become king of Silmaria, and thus, the game ends.

I think this is the best game out there, and sierra was crazy for getting rid of it.

Not at all like the rest of Quest for Glory

If you are a fan of the Quest for Glory series, you might want to buy this just to round out the collection. Fair warning though... if you loved Q4G for the fun and spoofs, they are strangely absent in this volume. For some reason Sierra dropped the spoofs and comedy to make a King's Quest clone instead of a spoof.

The play is pretty smooth but the interface will drive you nuts until you get used to it.

a cumulative quest for glory

as far as i know, q4g5 has elements of 3/2. i haven't really been playing the game long enuf to see if 1/4 are there, but i haven't seen many other erasmus/his rat. does anyone know where the thief's guild is/how do you give sarra her basket back--i've tried everything...... anyway, this game is more fun than i thought it'd be. i paid an extra [money] for it thru [website], but it was well worth it.

The Quest for Glory series is the best series of computer games there is, in my opinion. Although not my favorite of the series, (QG2, Trial by Fire is), the graphics and music are really good.

The big problem I found with it, as in almost all of my Sierra games, is that there are some bugs in the game and you need to download a patch to fix them. This is a shame, because otherwise Sierra would make the best games out there.

Goes out with a fizzle...

I am a HUGE fan of the quest for glory series, in fact I still play quest for glory I-IV. But quest for glory V was seriously lacking. It seemed to be tacked on and quickly thrown together. If your a fan on QfG get this just to fifnish the series but be prepared to be disapointed. The only thing improved would be the graphics. The plot and humor that made I-IV what they were just doesn't seem to be in QfG5. My adviice, buy the QfG anthology I-IV are defiantly better even if there are in VGA (and worse) graphics.

One of the Best Games I ever Played!

One of the best games I've ever played, the series is the best. Quest for Glory stimulates my brain adn gets me going for all the hard work that I have to put forth. Its the best, and I have played "The Paladin" ever single game expet the 1 and 2. It was great and this really ops it off. If they're coming out with a six, i can't wait to get it. Is there a anthology for all the QG games? Anyway, this was a great game and I give it the score that defines it! 5 stars!

The best game series ever...

This is the final touch for the Quest for Glory (or Hero's Quest) masterpiece. I highly recommend that if you want to buy chapter 5, you should alkso buy the rest of the chapters. Trust me, these are the best games you'll ever play.

to start,i own version 1.0 of quest for glory 5 and still knowing this, this game is one of the best games wich i have played ever.Sunny silmarias story of tragedy and sorrow is a very strong setting to the game. The story of silmaria and its troublessets out and gradually comes to a heartbeating climax of saving silmaria foreva,i was gladly pleased with what i viewed.
Although, within the game there was a few 'bugs' as in errors, i do not know if they are true but i have read about them, unfortounatly you cannot marry katrina(wether this is true i am not to say as i have never tested it)the game may crash as you enter the dragon pool and many more, little, glitches.Overall the game was very pleaseing and as my title says it will be very sad that there will not be another QUEST FOR GLORY.i have heard of her06 wich is apparently a carry on from qg5 but i am sure that the original quests will be very missed

Best RPG ever! The BEST in the Series!

I LOVED this game! I thought that all of the games in the series were pretty good, but when I played this game I was blown away! It has amazing graphics, awesome voices for each character, and an interesting plot. There is mystery, adventure, and even romance in this game. I loved being each character, but the thief is the BEST! For each character there is a different game plot. Choose from Wizard, Paladin, Thief, or Fighter. If you buy this game you won't regret it. I keep playing it oevr and over. It's that good!!!
