The best racing game...but

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 1 / 1

Ok this game has been out for a while, but here is my opinion after playing for over a year. This game was the only reason I paid [$$$] dollars for a PS2 system. I am a true racing fan and have played many racing games on computers and consoles. This is THE best racing game for the racing fan who wants realism and not an arcadey kids game. Graphics are second to none, physics are great, it has over 200 cars, etc. You can tune your Miata, or Mustang Cobra R, or maybe a full-blown LeMans racer. This is not a game for the non-car guy sometimes racer. You must aquire licences to move ahead in the game and some are quite difficult. This may be frustrating for the average player. But the racing has no equal in any game that I have seen.
A good investment would be an Official Game Guide from Versus Books. This has all the track maps, cars, license guide, and bonus cars won in each race and series race.
Gran Turismo 3 is not perfect, however. The music is limited and I completely turned it off after playing for a few minutes. I want to hear the cars, not Lenny Kravits screaming over the them. Also, the cars are mainly Japanese biased. Understandable since it was created by Japanese programers, but more European and US cars would be nice. Some cars such as the Mitsubishi Lancer have more than 8 or 9 variations of the same car. A bit much. Space that could be used for other models. The Japanese cars also seem to out handle and perform the few domestic and European cars. Oh well. More real tracks would be nice too. No Road Atlanta, Sebring, Mid Ohio? Sob! Laguna Seca is there at least. Even with these draw-backs this is the best racing game so far, and it doesn't lose its playability over the long haul like other games. I still play it even now. Other games sit and collect dust. I can't wait until Gran Turismo 4 is realesed early next year!

One of the best racing games ever!!!

First off this game is great awesome. The courses and great cars which can leave you playing for hours. You get to choose cars from all over the world form Japenese to U.S.A and the graphics are great.

The game is amazing, however it has two problems that i don't like and that's why i don't say this game is perfect. You can race only against 5 others cars and that's really not fun, and the other is that they are all dumbs! yeah! really! they don't try to block you and they always follow the same path. So what is fun is this game are the cars that you can control and all the action to control them and adjust them

Only one thing wrong

This is a fantastic game, the textures, sounds and controld are all top notch, the only problem is a lack of visible car damage

Not as difficult as others make it seem

GT3 is a very good game. Difficult at times, but fun. AND it should definitely NOT take you 5 HOURS to complete B license, unless you have no hand eye coordination. Yes it does take time to complete many aspects of the game, so if you want a fast paced game this might not be for you. Tip for the license tests, you don't need a gold cup to pass only bronze.
Also the cars are hard to control, it is very realistic so it can be a challenge, which is good. Hope this helps.

WOW!

Actually, I saw in the "cons" of this game that there is no porsches in this game. Actually RUF is a division of porsches.
Great game for anyone who likes a good game that is realistic (no boosts or simple handling)and can't wait to get there licence.

Okay, knowing that this is the zillionth review of Gran Turismo 3, I'll get right to the point: I love this game! I've only had it three days, but I'm hopelessly addicted. Now to the finer points.

STUFF I LIKE:
A huge variety of cars and tracks. The graphics are jaw-dropping. The replays are excellent. And the AI is just smart enough to keep the game fun and not frustrating.

STUFF I DON'T LIKE:
A) The music is awful. With the exception of one Jimi Hendrix song (Stone Free) and one Lenny Kravitz song (Are You Gonna Go My Way?), the background tunes are awful and annoying. Say what you will about GTA Vice City, but at least they had a nice assortment of songs to drive along with.

B) You can't damage your cars. You can't wreck them or flip them, either. I know that's not the point of the game, but still, when you lose control of your vehicle and slam into a guard rail, you expect a few scratches.

C) You can't decorate your cars. All you can do is choose from a limited palette of colors and that's the color you're stuck with forever. I would have liked the option of putting my name on the side of my car, or putting a big Pepsi logo on the hood--something to distinguish it from the other cars on the track.

But none of the above will hamper your enjoyment of the game. Buy it!

Outstanding!

This game is so good. No wonder they call it the 'real driving simulator'. This games graphics is excellent. The tracks and licenses shall completely keep you playing for days even months.
This game is probably the best driving game ever.
You should buy it.

this has to be the best racing game I ever played (and I've played most of them) the detail on things like heat waves, glowing brake disks, colour & sound every thing is perfect.the pnly disapointment is the amount of car in comparison to gt2 and the fact that you can nolonger give your car a race paint job. But over all a great game and definetly wearth your time and money (espesealy for the race game fans)And if you dont like race games this game might change you mind about them compleatly!!!
