_THE_ game to have for PS2

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 2 / 4

Absolutely phenomenal. Finally you can drive the Corvette C5 in a Gran Turismo title, something that's been missing in previous versions due to EA's exclusive license. Most of the cars that are missing are older generations of current cars, now only the latest model is included. (they do, however continue to offer the Supra, something that Toyota sadly does not in real life)

One major complaint: no neGcon support. The greatest racing controller ever made does not work with this title, and Polyphony had the code just lying around from previous versions. Extremely disappointing, but probably due to some marketing tie-in with the new GT-Force steering wheel. Lame.

This is the only game series to capture the true feeling of driving, and GT3 does it better than ever before. An absolute must-have.

This game is pretty fun, but it can be hard for beginners. GT3 has a great selection of cool cars. The graphics are awesome, and there are really great courses to race on. I really can see why this is a PS2 greatest hit game!

Fun for a little while

As with many PS2 games, the graphics are wonderful. But as with many PS2 games, it's just not that much fun to play after a while. As soon as you move to the mode where tire wear is on, it's so frustrating. Every car on the track can go more laps than you can. Your tires wear faster than the other cars and your performance goes down while the other cars do not. It's too bad. Games that cheat like that shouldn't be encouraged. It's fun and you should buy it. But you'll get bored and frustrated with it after a while. After that, just get rid of it.

Highest replay value of any game

The time you spend paying this game is beyond anything someone could possibly imagine.

This was the first game I got for the PS2. And this is probably the best. The only other game I have spent more time playing is Teken Tag Tournament, and that is only because me and my brother compete at it all the time.

If you are looking for a game to play by yourself and will last awhile, check this out.

You have so many options with this game. 100's of autos to choose from. There is also a wheel shop, but the wheel shop could have been a lot better than what it is.

The cups are what makes the games replay value so high. They are tough. They are challenging, and they keep you stuck to your tv. If you are like me, you can't stand to lose, and you lose a lot with this game. Very challenging and keeps you focused. You can spend an hour or two playing this and not even know it.

Pros:

You can never say you are bored at home when you have this to play.
Many many possibilities.

Countless hours of game play.
Closest thing to being a real racing game.

Cons:

Wheel shop is average.
Should have been more tracks.
Loss of sleep when addicted.

If you own and PS2 and you don't own this, stop being the odd-ball and get it.

Hope this is helpful...

Alright, just know that this is a simulation game, unlike Need for Speed, so remember that you almost ALWAYS have to brake before a turn, unless on the test track.
Good game if you have alot of free time, I recommend doing arcade mode if not. Very fun, licences are hard, but helpful.
For starters in sim mode try a Mazda Miata, be sure to check the spec's on cars, the game can be tricky.
Try not to be frustrated, the phrase "practice makes perfect" has a big place in this game.

Overall, not the best game in the world, but it can kill some serious time if you like it.

Ideal game for hardcore racing fans.

GT3 is the amazing sequel to the criticaly acclaimed gran truismo series. GT3 features amazing graphics that are still impressive today. The graphics are just the tip of the iceburg however. GT3 is one of the most challenging racers ever made and has the highest review for any PS2 game on IGN.com.

Realisim can be good...but too much realisim isn't.

I hated the fact that you had to pass the damn license test before you could even race. Takes away the fun from doing what's really fun in the game...racing. There's a point where realism can stretch a bit too far...I know it would be realistic to have the liscense tests in there, as you would have to take them in real life. However, they are annoying and stupid and better off not being there in a game, something meant to entertain you, not bore and frustrate you to death.

Also, there are the simulation of the handling and controls...my bro says it's for people who know how to drive well. Well, for the rest of us, could they not have implemented arcade style handling and controls? It would have been such an easy thing to implement, and I know it's not realistic, but it would draw more people to play the game that wouldn't otherwise.

Finally, there is the fact that you can't crash, wreck or damage your car in any way, shape or form. This is supposed to be the most realistic driving simulation, yet I can hit a wall at 200 mph and just bounce off it and all that happens is that I slow down, maybe spin out or get turned around. Supposedly this is because the car companies that liscensed their cars for use in the game didn't want to see their precious pretty cars get smashed up in a freaking game. So it was either take damage out, or the game would've never been released in its current form. The only thing that could have given this an extra star is the occasional fun you have racing against your friends, but sadly it isn't enough.

sometimes intense fun, but very repetitive

In the begining the game is kind of tedious, but if you stick with it you start winning races and getting great cars. at some points the racing competition can be really intense and fun.

After a while though you get tired of racing the same tracks over and over. In some situations all they do is add to the amount of times you go around the track, or they reverse the track.

Also WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE DEVELOPERS WHO MADE THIS GAME: why is it so hard to switch out of a race after its over. NO I do not want to look at the replay. the replay is not that amazing. let me just end the race without having to press 5 buttons. the game seems to think the user wants to look at the replay ever single second.

also, the preview, no I do not want to automatically preview a track I have raced 100 times. do not make the preview the first choice. I just want to race.

game engine seems dated. cars cannot flip over, there is no damage to cars. cannot leave the track. if you slow down and look at the spectators theyre like cardboard cutouts. in the rally races there is only one competitor...whats that about?

This Game STINKS!

I've heard many opinions about GT3. One day my friend brought it over so that we could play it on my PS2. It wasn't very fun at all! First off, it's so hard to turn your car you keep crashing. Secondly, it's boring! There is hardly anything interesting about the tracks. I would not recommend this game. I don't know why people like it.
