Just plain bad!

Save your money and spend it on TR Legends. I have all the Tomb Raider games and this one is just plain bad. Last Revelations for PS1 has better graphics and awesome gameplay. Angel of Darkness doesn't look good and Lara doesn't move well. The camera positioning and movement was done poorly.

Just chalk this one up to another mistake like TR3 for the PS1.

I expected more from Tomb Raider, and more on PS2

My first game I played on playstation was Tomb Raider, I loved it. I played all of them before I played this one. Then, I tried this one even when I heard many bad things from reviews, but still I wanted to see it for myself and they were all right. This game sucked. Many times was too slow (walking in slow motion), it was kind of like Metal Gear (but embarrassing Solid Snake), there were not enough puzzles (and the ones it had were boring and repeatitive), the design was bad, and the graphics I expected more since this was the first tomb raider on PS2 (I liked better the previous games the way she used to move). I miss the adventure like Indiana Jones, and I still remember the other games of Tomb Raider; but this one is forgetable.

Why the bogus reviews? This game rules!

Critics hated the game. Gamers hated the game. Even some fans hated the game. There are some who like it and I'm one of them.

I first got into the TR series via (surprise surprise) Tomb Raider 1. What a blast. TR3 and TR4 followed with me sadly missing out on TR2 and TRC. I picked up a copy of TRL and I loved it. But it didn't have that special TR feel. Then I bought AOD and I instantly forgot the bittersweet TRL. Lara is a bad@$$, enemies have brains, the "yaboos" jiggle realisticly... It's all good.

Let's start with the graphics. Lara looks lush. Her face may only have one animation (watching her shoot with the camera fixed on her face is not enjoyable!!!) but her body makes up for that. Her braid swings around, her legs are long and sexy, her hands are shaped like squares (a con) and her torso is... you know. The levels are pretty well made considering it's a 2003 game. Rain falls down and splashes on the ground for example. What kinda surprised me was that the game had some blood. After having played TRL (didn't have a drop of blood) I was surprised to see blood pour out enemies and Lara during rough shootouts. Oh well... Guess it's a part of the TR feel.

The music shocked me. Orchestra? Really? Surprisingly it works. Another good thing is the music from Le Serpent Rouge. A cathcy techno tune and a refreshing relief from violins and fiddles. The voice work is so-so. Lara herself sounds brilliant. Jonell Elliot lends her emotional voice to Lara, making her sound powerful and weak at the same time. w00tness. Kurtis also has a nice voice, ditto Von Croy (R.I.P) for the short time you see him.

Lara moves kinda slow here. When I first turned on the game I thought: "I'm supposed ot play this?". Turns out I gor pretty used to it. It's gonna be hard to play Legend now. I thought that the more advanced control system was cool. The shooting may be awkward (tapping R1 and pressing X? WTF?) but fist-fighting is mint, making for some enjoyable fights. The stealth is pretty cool also. Lara can now wall-hug, neck-snap and (What is this, Metal Gear Solid?) Commando crawl.

I personally like this game. The story line is a bit sucky and there aren't many tombs. But it doesn't matter if Tomb Raider is analog or directional pad as someone was complaining about her being on analog. As long as you know how to play with an analog stick there shouldn't be a problem. I mean sure, they could have made it optional between directional pads and analog, but personally I think it's fine.

I don't understand why people complain about the camera angles. Be happy that they allow you to move around the camera. If it isn't where you want it, don't be lazy. Move around the right analog stick. Or press in the right analog stick if you want the camera directly behind Lara. If you don't like it, then hey, you don't like it. Don't attack Eidos. Attack Core Design because they are the ones making the crappy graphics and crappy storyline. Eidos is just there to help promote the ideas and bring it out into the worlds.

Overall, if you know how to play the game, you should do fine!

Not near as bad as people say it is just try it !

If anything smacks you when you first start playing this game is that there are quite a number of problems with the game. The controls are meh to oh-my-fzhking-god. She walks in more 2d fashion, which would have been helpful in Last Revelation, but here, it also wreaks havoc as the camera can change on you, which makes the left you were pushing her suddenly become down, and you fall to your death. At the beginning, when you're going through the tutorial on the roof (where the crowbar is), there is a huge slowdown that makes it feel like you're running around in Max Payne Bullet time mode, and trying to "fix" it by toggling L2 on and off can result in oyu suddenly going into normal time, where you walk off the edge of the roof and fall to your death. Other glitches like clipping, and the world famous TR Cam really cause you problems where you will most likely fall to your death. The stealth mode and body leveling doesn't do much aside from giving you a wrong button to press and you accidentally walk off a cliff and fall to you death. Oh, you notice Lara will oftentimes die a lot due to a bad jump, or running out of her grip meter? Since there is no more "grid" in which Lara walked on in the PS1 games, being a hair off can result in you falling to your death very easily. And often.

They did seem to go through the trouble of rearranging how Lara looks after a taking a tumble to her death. I don't think there is a shortage of Lara's sprawled-out body in a large rain puddle, that's for certain.

SOOOO BAD!!!

I am a huge Tomb Raider fan, but was terribley dissapointed! First of all the controls were all screwy. Then they TOOK AWAY LARA'S TRADITIONAL OUTFIT!!! I LOVED THAT OUTFIT! They took away Lara's pistols and added Kurtis or whatever his name was. I don't understand why they did this because it just frusterated me even more. Then there are the camera angles. Oh, boy. I could rant on and on about how the angles... I cant even put it into words. They always changed and moved when you didnt want them to. And Von Croy died! Overall, don't buy this game. Don't rent this game. It is a waste of money and time.

For the record, I have played the previous five TR games and am a huge Lara fan. That is partly what makes TR6 such a big disappointment. I used to put up with the control problems and animation problems, because I thought those were the limitations of a Playstation2. Since then I have played Prince of Persia - Sands of Time, which has such seamless flow and ease of control, that I have been forever spoiled. The way the Prince moves and fights is beautiful to watch and fun to control. Tombraider fans will really enjoy POP, because it's everything you love about Tombraider, without the awkwardness. After completing POP, I started playing Angel of Darkness. What a clunker! How long can it possibly take Lara to climb down a ladder? Forever! Play Angel of Darkness, and you'll see. In POP, the Prince just slides down the ladder, and he's outta there. It's unacceptable that you have to reload TR6 every time that you die, which is often. In POP, if you die, the Prince says "no, no, no, that's not how it happened" and automatically takes you back to the beginning of the fight or series of jumps. Not the beginning of the level, the beginning of what you were trying to do just then. To the designers of Tombraider: I'm begging you, play POP - Sands of Time, learn about it, and design us a Tombraider that is up to today's high standards! Do that for us, and make yourselves worthy of the devotion of your fans.

Gets old

This game gets soooooooo old after a while. There are goodies and badies.
Badies: 1) gets very old! 2) bugs and glitches! 3) controls are screwed up! 4) on some areas u can't control the camera!
Goodies: 1) the story is good! 2) u can play as 2 characters!
3) u have more guns and hand-to-hand combat!
I like the Tomb Raider for normal Playstation, but this... this is very disappointing! :-(
