This game is a huge disappointment because they spent so much time working on it but it still is crap. Awful sound and the camera is still the games big problem. It's not very long and after you beat, you don't want to play it again so you wasted money. don't buy it.

While the graphics in the game are quite breathtaking, they really can't make up for all the bugs. After two years of getting our hopes up only to have them dashed to pieces with yet another postponement, there is no excuse for all the glitches and bugs that still remain in the game. The player menu has a number of massive mistakes in it (no, you CAN'T change the controls, in order to switch your aim you must push the SQUARE button, not the triangle, etc.). Further, the game itself has a number of glitches in it, the most memorable being the instance when I dropped the chum in the water and was promptly eaten by the Leviathan, that impede gameplay and at times almost make it impossible to get to the next level. The Official Strategy guide is well written and helpful, but it appears that a number of things happened in their version that never did in ours or were changed prior to release (most for the worse). The introduction of a second character, Kurtis Trent, was interesting and fun, the upgrade system was a nice addition, and as I said before, the graphics are simply stunning, but they are quickly forgotten when one realizes that Lara now has a different control system that needs to be mastered and is far less accessable than its former self. In the end I gave this game a 3 because most of the new additions are quite nice, but the new control system and the inexcusable problems within the game bog it down. The bottom line is: Don't waste your 50 bucks on this one. Wait until it becomes a Greatest Hits title, they (hopefully) fix the bugs, and the price drops to $20. As it stands, the game's simply not worth it.

Worth the wait

This game has mixed reviews, but as an avid Tomb Raider fan, this game definitely lives up to expectations. The controls are basically the same, with a few minor adjustments. The gameplay is difficult (extremely hard without a players guide), but that is what has made all the Tomb Raider games so enjoyable. The graphics are outstanding, and the storyline has far surpassed the previous editions. I am 3/4 through this game, and I can't put the controller down. I think it will be even more enjoyable the second time around, not using a players guide. One of the top 5 games of the year - hands down.

Where are the tombs?

I, like many Tomb Raider fans have been waiting a very long time for the release of Tomb Raider for the PS2. To say the least, I was very disappointed. To keep it simple, there are no tombs, the controls are horendously bad, the game freezes up and has to be restarted, and the game has a slow down problem. Most of these factors could be overlooked if the controls were like the controls from the old Tomb Raider games.
On the positive side, the game has great graphics, and has a very interesting storyline. Rent this game before you buy it.
I sold mine back and took the loss only two days after buying it. Don't make the same mistake that I did!

Another boring Tomb Raider game; complete with the same goofy puzzles and blocky interface. Nothing new here, just the same old game with better graphics.

As for Lara's "big guns", ho-hum. Kids looking to see Lara's barely covered cha-chas will not be disappointed but is that really worth the cost of this game?

The Return of the "Cyber Goddess"!

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 0 / 3

We was waiting years for 'her' - Lara Croft, the one and only "cyber goddess".
And now she there and how! She never was looking better. Her 'lifting' is great, her new 'fitness' is great, she is now anyhow much more real.
The difference to the old games is remarkable. In the past she was hunting artefacts, this time she is the hunted. Well, someone believes that she is the murder of Werner von Croy. So she has the first time to run and clear who is the right murder of Werner. And she is running into the darkness...
They are further things you should now.
The graphics of this TR are one of the bests you ever have seen. Some of the levels are simply 'Wow!'. The "Hall Of Seasons", or the "Aquatic Research Center", the "Vault Of Trophies". Some parts are really not easy. The "red ghost" for example. That's one of the hardest problems I've seen in a TR game. And a good reason to look in a walkthru...
The music is very good and some of the music is performed by the London Symphony Orchestra, some other is straight disco style.
The whole game is faster (compared with the olds) but not hectic! Lara is now able to crowl in military style. Flat on her abdomen. Also she is now able to kick and punsh and to use stealth mode.
She is not equiped in this game with endloss ammo. This time you have to think twice before you shot. But to find new ammo is not so problematic...and a good kick is a good kick.
One of her new more real things is that she begins not so strong in the game. There are places/objects they make her stronger. In the beginning of the game -for example- she isn't able to sprint, but later -after a matching training- she is.
Also she is now able to make interactions with other charaters. Means: talk to them. If you make the correct conversation, you'll get what you want. If not...the game turns in a *** direction. Hint: Save before!
Her new control. In the first minutes they are a littlebit strange. But under normal circumstances you should have it in -let's say- around 30 minutes in your fingers. In the past you pushed Lara with the d-pad, this time you 'draw' her with the analog stick (L3), the cam you can control with the right one (R3). It is like playing with a little toy car you draw over a table. Hint: If you push the R3 the can goes behind her. And if you HOLD L1 she can go back/sidewards. Press R3 before. ;)
Btw: In "Vault Of Trophies" you can see her in her famous swim suit!

Resume: The new TR is with 'wow'-grafics/levels and a touch of Resident Evil a very good return of her! Not perfect, but worth to play it 'til the end! It is one of her bests.

PS.: Sorry for my bad english.
