GT2 and GT3 are much better

Only played a demo. Sure the graphics are great for PS1. but that really doesn't make up for it. The racing title 'Sega GT' which is complete rubbish. is better. I have Gran Turismo 2 and Gran Turismo 3:A-Spec which are much better games. GT4 will be even better than those 2 And so will be GT5.

Why does everybody think this is great

This game may have excellent graphics, many different cars, and all this other crap, but it doesn't have control, and control is the main part of the game. If you accidentally tap the gas while turning you spin for 15 minutes, and loose the race. To go around a small corner, you need to hit the brakes! Also, the licenses are a pain. In order to win big money, you have to have to have an international license, which is almost impossible to obtain. Tests such as go 3 miles, around a hairpin, brake within 30 feet of finish line, and do it all in under 45 seconds, WITHOUT going off the track. That may be exaggerated, but real tests are pretty close. The only thing I do like about this game is the choice of cars-140 of them. Most of them suck, such as anything under 20,000 credits, but it is the best part of the game. If you want a game that has graphics that rival GT, and is less confusing than it, go for Need for Speed:High Stakes. NFS also has a hot pursuit mode where you can chase or be chased by the cops or another friend- GT doesn't have it.

Awesome graphics, great music, unbelievable price, good thing, because if I paid fifty bucks for this frustrating and difficult game I would have gone through numerous controllers after throwing them in anger. The license test are ridiculously hard and force you to give up. This, I find very dissapointing since I would love to play the game to it's fullest extent. And what is with the crashes, do they exist? After I got a feel for the speed and power of some of the cars I was looking forward to some good old fashioned, fender smashin', end over end, gaurd rail blowin', multi car, track clearin' blowouts. Bummer....

A wonderfully difficult racer.

A rather in depth racer that purports to have some of the most realistic physics ever. Two modes, arcade and simulation. In simulation, win races to earn money and improve your car. Many easter eggs and lots of replayability.

This game is the best racing game I have ever played!

The selection of cars is amazing. The courses can be difficult enough. The only thing I didnt like is that they dont have Pontiac cars.

Gran Turismo 2 WAIT

Gran Turismo is an awesome game no doubt, and one of the best racing games ever. Although Gran Turismo 2 has been released for a week now, it still is the second best racing game. Since i already have a copy of GT2, I spell out the differences. GT2 has 500+ cars and 20 tracks, but GT only has 165 cars and 11 tracks. This is a huge difference, but for most racers, GT is enough. There isn't a huge improvement over graphics in the newer version but it has been improved slightly. There are double the license tests, but if you are used to the old license tests, you'll do fine. For advanced racers, you'll opt for GT2. GT is much easier to race compared with GT2 because SONY made the computer racers race harder. The tracks are plenty challenging in the latter version and can at times be frustrating. All old tracks carry over with an addition of a few more new tracks. There is also a rally racing mode which is awesome. There really isn't that much more difference. My advice to all people getting ready to buy the old Gran Turismo: This isn't a bad choice but purchase the second version. It triples the fun and triples the challenge.

Best Racing Game Ever!

As many have said, Gran Turismo is the single best racing game ever. Actually, I wouldn't even call it a game, it truly is much more of a simulator. The graphics, handling, speed, sounds and cars are all 100% realistic. It even gives the correct horsepower and weight of each car. It lets you choose from many different car companies, and in the Arcade mode, different classes of cars from A (best) to C (worst). The game is extremely fun and has an endless replay value. You can choose between Arcade Mode, where you can choose any car you want and race, or Simulation mode where you have to buy cars and earn money from races. The game truly is amazing. If you're thinking it sounds easy, you're wrong. Realstic handling and brakes make running the tracks a real strategy and getting licenses very challenging. There isn't much more you could possibly want out of a racing game. Plus, the documentation is pretty impressive.

The most addictive and realistic racing simulation ever!

With a mountain of racing games available for the Playstation it takes something truly special to come out on top. Gran Turismo(GT) is that special game and earns that status by it's attention to detail and extensive gameplay options. The first thing you'll notice are the outstanding graphics. GT's cars are rendered with excellent realism and the replays look like they could have been pulled off a television broadcast. Playing the game though, will let you experience the incredibly realistic control you have over the cars. Using a dual-shock control pad will allow you to actually feel the bumps on the road(as well as other cars). Winning a race will award with cash which can be used to either purchase another car(that Toyota Supra looks nice) or enhance your current vehicle with a tuneup, new suspension, or a faster, more powerful engine. These features all add up to make the definitive racing game for Playstation owners everywhere.
