Gran Turismo 2 WAIT

Gran Turismo is an awesome game no doubt, and one of the best racing games ever. Although Gran Turismo 2 has been released for a week now, it still is the second best racing game. Since i already have a copy of GT2, I spell out the differences. GT2 has 500+ cars and 20 tracks, but GT only has 165 cars and 11 tracks. This is a huge difference, but for most racers, GT is enough. There isn't a huge improvement over graphics in the newer version but it has been improved slightly. There are double the license tests, but if you are used to the old license tests, you'll do fine. For advanced racers, you'll opt for GT2. GT is much easier to race compared with GT2 because SONY made the computer racers race harder. The tracks are plenty challenging in the latter version and can at times be frustrating. All old tracks carry over with an addition of a few more new tracks. There is also a rally racing mode which is awesome. There really isn't that much more difference. My advice to all people getting ready to buy the old Gran Turismo: This isn't a bad choice but purchase the second version. It triples the fun and triples the challenge.

Best Racing Game Ever!

As many have said, Gran Turismo is the single best racing game ever. Actually, I wouldn't even call it a game, it truly is much more of a simulator. The graphics, handling, speed, sounds and cars are all 100% realistic. It even gives the correct horsepower and weight of each car. It lets you choose from many different car companies, and in the Arcade mode, different classes of cars from A (best) to C (worst). The game is extremely fun and has an endless replay value. You can choose between Arcade Mode, where you can choose any car you want and race, or Simulation mode where you have to buy cars and earn money from races. The game truly is amazing. If you're thinking it sounds easy, you're wrong. Realstic handling and brakes make running the tracks a real strategy and getting licenses very challenging. There isn't much more you could possibly want out of a racing game. Plus, the documentation is pretty impressive.

The most addictive and realistic racing simulation ever!

With a mountain of racing games available for the Playstation it takes something truly special to come out on top. Gran Turismo(GT) is that special game and earns that status by it's attention to detail and extensive gameplay options. The first thing you'll notice are the outstanding graphics. GT's cars are rendered with excellent realism and the replays look like they could have been pulled off a television broadcast. Playing the game though, will let you experience the incredibly realistic control you have over the cars. Using a dual-shock control pad will allow you to actually feel the bumps on the road(as well as other cars). Winning a race will award with cash which can be used to either purchase another car(that Toyota Supra looks nice) or enhance your current vehicle with a tuneup, new suspension, or a faster, more powerful engine. These features all add up to make the definitive racing game for Playstation owners everywhere.

A racing classic!

I was looking for a racing video game for my new playstation, and everyone I talked to told me to get Gran Turismo. And now I know why. It's so fun! It's challenging, but not impossible. The graphics are good and realistic, and there are tons of cars to choose from. I really like the simulation mode where you can race for money and buy new cars or upgrade old ones. I'm a huge fan of my Dodge Viper with racing stripes.

One thing that's not so great about this game is the space that it takes up on your memory card. Just to have a simulation mode game going, you need 5 empty blocks. If you want to get into saving replays and stuff, it can use up to 15 blocks. Memory cards are expensive... I'm not willing to devote an entire memory card to one game, no matter how great it is.

When i first got this game the B license test was pretty easy. the A license was extremely difficult because of the final test. i was stuck on that for about 3 weeks. i finally got it and started getting into some OK races. then i started trying to get the A1 license. that was impossible. all the tests on that one are full laps. i got the first one and i left it alone. i went to the races. then i got Gran Turismo 2. i did all the 5 license tests. i went back to the A1 License test in GT1 and they were all easy to beat. I think GT2 was more like the introductory game with WAY MORE CARS. in GT1 I was thrown to the lions. in GT2 they slowly put you in there and it prepares you. GT1 IS MORE OF A CHALLENGE THAN GT2 if you like a tougher challenge and dont mind having less cars to choose from i would recommend this game. if you just want a whole bunch of cars, get GT2. Forget it, JUST GO GET BOTH GAMES. THEY ARE BOTH TOP OF THE LINE AND THERE IS NOTHING CLOSE TO THEM.

Great game and better than GT2

First of all, I'd like to say that this game, the original Gran Turismo, is much better than Gran Turismo 2: the graphics are noticeably cleaner and sharper, the game menus and races seem to load faster, and the game itself is not bogged down with so many complexities like GT 2. All in all, this is simply a better game than its successor, and possibly the best racer I've ever played on any system. Sure, the graphics aren't like what I'm used to on my Dreamcast, but the game is so fun, the animation so fluid, that that's not even an issue for me. Come on, people -- graphics alone do not a better game make.

If you don't have Gran Turismo and like racing games, buy this now!

This is the ULTIMATE in circuit racing! If you buy this, you will throw away your other racing games and never look back!

You may want to wait a few weeks for the realease of Gran Turismo 2. Hundreds more cars from dozens of manufacturers, European, American and Japaneese alike, not to mention more tracks and even dirt trails!

Still amazing!

Even with a sequel out, this is still amazing. There is so much to do in this game that you will be playing it for months without ever getting bored. Everything about it is great and we may never see anyone top this franchise as long as they keep on improving this one. P.S. Best car? The Mitsubishi GTO MR, when fully customized, reaches 930+ hp and around 250 mph. All that and it still brakes and handles superbly!

More than you think...

I am so happy that I "stumbled" onto this gem before being exposed to other PlayStation driving experiences. My friends and family think I'm obsessed with the "game." I keep telling myself I will drive every last one of the cars unmodified, super-modified, and race-modified. I've gone beyond trying to drive the car that goes the fastest, and I'm now focused on being the fastest with a slower car.

One of the things I've noticed is that drafting, (or slipstreaming,) is a vital role while racing down the track. Not only does it allow your car to go faster, but it also severely degrades cornering ability.

Gran Turismo is VERY well thought out.

THE most In-Depth racer of our time

Gran Turismo is a car lover's dream. With 12 dealerships and 166 authentic cars, this game will keep you busy for hours, from tweaking your cars to refining your racing skills. There are three licenses you can achieve, each one giving you the opportunity to earn the big bucks and get faster cars. Among these supercars is the popular Corvette, the Mitsubishi GTO ( known as the 3000GT in America ), and the Dodge Viper. From power slides to horsepower, this game is the ultimate in racing games.
