Very poorly designed game (garbage)

I just wasted thirty bucks on this ..game. I bought it for my son, who was very excited about purchasing it. After reading several of the reviews on here, I thought it must be a good game (Most of the reviews are favorable). The player spends most of his time at a boring ranch. Each month, you choose one type of food, and one type of training for your monster. It seemed as if no matter what combination we chose, we either ran out of money or the monster decided it did not want to do what we told it to. This is called "foolery". If your monster has a high foolery rating, it will not behave during a battle, and it will get stomped on. Even the very first battles seemed impossible to win, and after owning this game for three days, I have taken it back and sold it as a used game. Also worth mentioning is the fact that there are no open areas to walk around in (like in Pokemon for game boy color), and the entire game is very linear and limited. It promises unlimited combinations of monsters from other CD's but you have to win special badges to be able to access this feature (we could only do it with the help of the game shark, and even then the game was extremely boring and not playable). Rent before you buy, or buy at your own risk!

A Great Game That Simulates Owning Your Own Monster!!

This was a great game that I enjoyed playing a lot. The point of the game is to raise a monster. You start with a low leveled monster, your goal is to make them learn different attacks and win money against other trainers in battles. This game is very similiar to Pokemon. The only thing I didn't like was after you raise a macho battle-ready monster that took hours to train, it dies. Anyway this game is a great game!!

sweet the best game.

I believe this is the best game ever. It is very addictive. Unlike some people I think this game is similar in one way pokemon. In both games you raise monsters. It is different from Pokemon in many ways One is That you fight enimes In meets and you fight against a extremely diferent monster. In the beginning of pokemon you always fight weak pokemon In this game you will be beat if you don't train and get all your monsters stats up. Also in this game you can get different monsters by using a cd by buying one or by breeding monsters with a special item or without one. Over all I beleve this game is on of the best Ever.

wow what a great game

Hmm... this is a very...intriguing game. Plenty of promising developments, yet it somehow manages to fall somewhat short of good expectations. Let's bash the game piece by piece:

A) General concept - some people say that this game is like Pokemon. Maybe. Does it make a difference? The overall feel is nothing of the same with that horrid, horrid frenchise...If you weren't going to buy the game because it has something to do with the above-mentioned horrid, horrid frenchise, you can cross that reason out. The basic premise - getting monsters out of your own CDs, raising them, battling them, etc. is ingenious. Problem - despite the fact that taking monster stats out of pre-existing CDs in pretty much unique and very enjoyable, YOU WILL GROW TIRED OF SWAPPING COUNTLESS CDS EACH AND EVERY TIME YOU LOAD UP A MONSTER. Other than this, I have almost nothing else to say - the game is loaded with options - just read the GameSpot editorial above. But there is just something missing - some sort of replayability usually intrinsic to games such as these. THAT RUINS THE FEEL. I don't know why. Maybe because that the game really introduces nothing revolutionary to the field.

Controls/Visuals - the controls aren't too good, but usable. It can be sometimes hard to hit the correct buttons. The visuals are near pop-up free and colorful, but none-too-detailed. Good, but not great.

Concensus - this game has been great the first time around - Monster Rancher I. This version will appeal to a limited audience because of its overall simplicity. If you want a game with truly unique, incredible qualities, look elsewhere.

VERY COOL!

Great game! Small kids would love it! If you've never played Monster Rancher before, it will probably take you an hour to get good at the game. Very fun to play!

Monster Rancher 2- The epitomy of horrific stupidity

Tecmo took an unnecessary chance creating Monster Rancher 2. I cannot see how any human being in their right mind could possibly enjoy this excuse of a game. As if the original wasn't torture enough, Tecmo had to put us through the agony of a sequel. You might as well take your hard-earned money and burn it. Throughout the game, nothing is done by the player, except making selections from a menu. There is no hint of creativity behind the production of this failure. No person should waste any amount of money for this piece of garbage.

THIS IS THE BEST!

U might think that this is a kids game from the rating and show but it really is a prety cool game. I don't usually play games like this but i saw it, baught it, and liked it. It doesn't copy pokemon at all if thats what u're thinking it (instead of making u get alot of monsters) lets u focus on 1 (u can make more monsters but u can only have one out at a time) and raising it to the standards u want although they do die its better than having an imortal monster(it makes the game more interesting). So basically u train a monster from a disk and raise it, fight it, and/or explore places (kind of like missions).
