Just as Addictive as the First

When I picked up the first MR I thought... "This could be a good change of pace" considering I had just finished FFVII and a few other long RPG's. It was on the used rack so it was cheap. I shrugged and took it to the counter. I don't think I put my controller down for more the 30 mins at a time to get food. MR2 is just the same. Though continually getting the "I regret to inform you..." message when I try and make a monster from a CD is getting kinda old. Too many rare monsters that you have to wait to get. OTher then that, it's great. A must have.

An ironic conterversy

An excellent game, but lacking a straight forward plot. Great variety and open-ended gameplay is what intrigued me. A certain improvement to me was that I now have an English version of MR2. I have basically all japanesse versions of games before they come out here but I finally have a MR game I can understand. Although this game is an improvement from the MR1, the gameplay doesn't quite differ much. I hope their next sequel is better...

Great!

A great game, though different than any other I've ever seen[A few lines can get old though]. Once you get grant from IMA, the selection of monsters greatly improves. If you raise the monsters right, it can be very rewarding [Money wise].

A very shocking game!

This is a AWESOME game. It lets you make monsters, raise monsters, find monsters, and a lot of other stuff! This game is the BEST game I have ever played. I have also played MR1, that was neat too. I couldn't stop playing either of em! This is a must buy game.

If you like the feeling of finding something new?

MR2 is great for people with patience and who are willing to go through hundreds of compact discs to find a rare or new monster to raise. But first you must go through adventures and battles within the game to release these rare monsters. A few upgrades from the first Monster Rancher, such as the drills and errantries. It gets really repetitive once you find all the secrets and goodies. Overall its a game to pass the time, if you have nothing else better to do.

Strange Game

This game is strange indeed. But give it a chance, you will find it is very addicting. It's wierdness is very alluring. You may find you are repulsed by your own monster. Until he begins to enter tournaments, then something awakens within you. This game has a high replay value.

The Pokemon Beater

I know that this game will get bashed for being like Pokemon. However, the first Monster Rancher came out in America 8 months before Pikachu. Now, this is a great game. Once you get the idea of how to play it (which isn't very hard at all), you'll become instantly addicted. Not for those with little time on their hands. Only problem is finding the rare components that will allow you to make the truly powerful monster. A great gift for kids. I can't recommend this enough.

You must buy this!

Great game, I find myself captivated by MR2 until all hours of the night. Raising monsters and entering tournaments...There is always something new to try. The game keeps you occupied, there are never any long boring moments. Make sure you check other web sites for tips on raising a champion monster. Unfortunately, the instruction booklet is horrible. Overall, 5 stars! You gotta buy this game.

Very peculiar

Hmm... this is a very...intriguing game. Plenty of promising developments, yet it somehow manages to fall somewhat short of good expectations. Let's bash the game piece by piece:

A) General concept - some people say that this game is like Pokemon. Maybe. Does it make a difference? The overall feel is nothing of the same with that horrid, horrid frenchise...If you weren't going to buy the game because it has something to do with the above-mentioned horrid, horrid frenchise, you can cross that reason out. The basic premise - getting monsters out of your own CDs, raising them, battling them, etc. is ingenious. Problem - despite the fact that taking monster stats out of pre-existing CDs in pretty much unique and very enjoyable, YOU WILL GROW TIRED OF SWAPPING COUNTLESS CDS EACH AND EVERY TIME YOU LOAD UP A MONSTER. Other than this, I have almost nothing else to say - the game is loaded with options - just read the GameSpot editorial above. But there is just something missing - some sort of replayability usually intrinsic to games such as these. THAT RUINS THE FEEL. I don't know why. Maybe because that the game really introduces nothing revolutionary to the field.

Controls/Visuals - the controls aren't too good, but usable. It can be sometimes hard to hit the correct buttons. The visuals are near pop-up free and colorful, but none-too-detailed. Good, but not great.

Concensus - this game has been great the first time around - Monster Rancher I. This version will appeal to a limited audience because of its overall simplicity. If you want a game with truly unique, incredible qualities, look elsewhere.

The Best game of the century
