I am a Law & Order addict and was thrilled when I came across this game. I couldn't wait to get it loaded on my PC, only to find it was frought with problems! Even after upgrading my memory, installing all the patches from the software manufacturer, and cleaning out my hard drive, I still had problems running the game. The speed was quite slow and I had difficulty getting from scene to scene because of this. Despite this, I was very interested in the game and the more difficult the "investigation" proved to be, the more I wanted to see what happened next! After many times failing, I finally made it through the "investigation" and on to "the courthouse," only to have the game freeze up when I was very close to solving the case! I was livid! I am in the process now of replacing my PC system and resolved not to play the game again until the upgrade is complete.

Despite all the problems, the game is quite interesting and the character roles are really close to the actual TV ones. I did have to use the hints on the manufacturer's website quite a bit, as I found the game quite challenging! After patrolling the same area several times, I finally wised up and went for the hints! Another reviewer stated that frequent saves are a must in case the game locks up and I agree completely with that statement. Saving your progress ever so often would prevent having to repeat the same parts of the game over in the event of a freeze-up or botched investigation.

I am looking forward to finishing the game and will purchase the second Law & Order game that is now available. I just hope it will have less technical issues than the first.

Great game!

I bought this game for my wife (who's a big fan of the show) and we both got hooked. I usually like games with more action than this one but we had a fun time playing it. The graphics were pretty good and the story was interestin (I bet the Martha Stewart story in the news gave them a few ideas). I was surprised that I liked playing it almost as much as my wife. Two thumbs up from us.

Da Dooooooooooom. Law and Order: Dead On The Money is right now probably one of the best mystery detective games as well a Court or Trial game (though I don't any other Court or Trail games) out there. The game is a close follow of Law and Order, a T.V. show which depicts a murder case from aresting the perp to convicting him. If you havn't seen this show then what have you seen. The game (staring celebrity vioces and characters of Jerry Orbach, S. Epatha Merkerson and Elisabeth Rohm) does a good job of following a Law and Order story as if it was a real show. They've even included the Da Doooooooooooooooooooms.

The game begins as you watch a FMV of a maintence worker find a strangled hot shot broker (which you begin to find as you explore). You then are able to, as partner with Detective Lennie Briscoe (vioce of Jerry Orbach) scour the crime scene, follow leads and travel around the city interviewing witnesses. After getting an aresst warrant and arresting the perp you become an Assistant District Attorney where you present your case to a Jury and gather further incriminating evidence.

When you first begin the game you pick your levels of non-strengh (I highly suggest picking the effiency non-strenth for first time users) which will affect what happens during the game. Picking: Evidence Collection will magnify items and clues; Interviewing / Questioning Witnesses will leave only two questions able to ask; Teamwork will leave cell-phone messages, fax's and a note on the chalboard at the precinct from your supervisor, hinting you on what action to take next; Efficiency will make all of your actions take less time, this is important because you only have seven days (not reel time) to arrest the perp.

You then begin to start gameplay as you have a some-what large array of options at your fingers.

Finding clues is ussauly a lot of fun, though you have to be careful because time is ticking (note, though, when the mouse is idle time does not tick). Move your mouse across the screen and when you think you have something click. You then zoom-in on the clue it may or may not be something. If you think it will be important put it your case file or you can, just, leave it. Be careful though because you only have room for fifty items in your case file. This is very dissapointing becuase you know as a real detective you would pick up everything, but it does give the game a bit of spa-zaz. After putting things in your case file you can submit a lab report (after completed you will be able to visit the crime lab and get your results) a records and research report for either items or persons (when completed go to R&R to get those reports) or you can submit a surveilance report or phyciatrist evaluation (you are able to visit those places and a get a report as well). Another place to visit is the Medical Examiners office to learn about important clues.

Also in the case file you can file search warrants and arrest warrants, though they do have to get past your supervisor (either D.A. Douglas Wade -vioce of Victor Brandt- or Lt. Anita Van Buren- vioce of Epatha Merkerson) or the Defense Attorney and the Judge Emily Greenwood (played as Florence Stanley). When the Assistant D.A. you will be able to file types of supbeonas in the case file. When a search warrant gets through you get to visit a new apartment , home or place.

Interviewing witnesses is tons of fun but you have to make sure you ask the right question to get new leads and good info. If you don't Briscoe should comment when your done, while you review your interview and decide if you should add it to your case file. Top ask the questions you click on the one you want to ask on the notepad on the right half of the screen (fun, huh?).

As Assistant D.A. with Serena Southerlyn (played by Elisabeth Rohm) you continue your investigation and present your case to a jury. You are also able to object when the Defense Attorney is out of line. A lot more fun than it sounds.

During gameplay at the bottom of the screen their be a bar, where you can answer your cell-phone, view your case file, view the map to travel around town and interview witnesses and to go to the main menu.

The problem with this game is not the stunning graphics, the amazing gameplay nor the countless scenarios it is how it FREEZES ALL THE FREAKIN TIME ALL THE FREAKIN TIME ALLL THE FREAKIN TIME ALL THE FREAKIN TIME GET IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't emphazize this enough what ever you do it just don't get better and you know I have a pretty nice computer.

Overall there are many features that I haven't mentioned that are just spectacular like negoteating with witnesses and piecing together puzzles. To any Law and Order fan or if you just like a good mystery this game should be yours. It offers everything you could want and when realing thinking about it there arn't that many things that could be improved. Remember save a lot because this game crashes A LOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHH I hope that my review was useful.

Would be fun if it didn't have a time frame

There is way too much stuff to be picked up and sent all over the place for testing and researching and whatnot. Unfortunately, some witnesses are only "unlocked" after you submit the right item, so unless you're quite fast picking up stuff etc. you can't solve the case within the allotted time frame.

This game would be very interesting and entertaining if they didn't cut off the investigation after a week (that's game time, not real time).

Warning!

Be warned that this game does not work in all computers. I have an HP pentium IV, but when I tried to play I was unable to access the crime scene which is the main screen. All I got was a black screen. I went to the Legacy Interactive website hoping to resolve the problem, and found there were many other people experiencing this problem. The game maker apoligizes but has no solution for it, but say they are working on it.

2**'s only because I Love "Law & Order." The CD? THE FREEZE

Recently purchased this item since I am such a Law & Order fan, the idea of actually "trying to solve a case" via CD ROM would be fun, challenging, and worth the time, $$$ and effort, entertainment-wise. Yes, I have every compatible necessecity, so this is just my experience with this program. The program was easily installed, but once "the games began," it took forever and ever and ever for the game to move and navigate. Everything took too long to download, time "ticked" away to solve the case, but more time was spent waiting for images to display than for us to interact. And the kicker? Each attempt at the game (4x) ended by the entire system freezing without even getting 1/4 of the way through the game regardless of whether or not we "saved" each completed aspect of the game! We finally gave up and returned the game, because while the saving value of the CD ROM is that it is "Law & Order," if others have similar experiences to mine, this game is certainly not worth owning just for the name (unless one collects L&O goodies). Give it a try, by all means; and if one completes the game without incident, great! I hope it was fun!!!

Best Game Ever!

It is a good game, interesting like the show. It's bad because it has a short time limit and freezes up every once in a while. But I would recomend it to Law & Order fans.

Have yet to see if it does as it claims!

The game, received as a gift last Christmas, has yet to see "the light of day" in my household. During the initial forty minute installation time, the disc "froze" resulting in an incomplete process.

I'm glad my favorite TV detectives/lawyers don't operate this way.

They'd never solve a case if they did.

'Couldn't give it ONE STAR because I'm such a devotee' of the series.

A little disappointing

The game is fun- I wish that there was more than 1 case on it though

Fun-Freeze-Crash

I am sorry to say you should not but this game.

I love the Law and Order show, so I was excited to finally get this game to play. At first it seemed to deliver on its promise. The huge problem I've had is that the game freezes and crashes constantly. The game is pretty unforgiving of mistakes so you need to save & reload often. I don't mind this, it seems like it is part of the game. But when I have to load, and reload, and reload, and reload because of freezes and crashes, I get pretty annoyed. It takes the fun right out of the game.

For example, I started to feel like I was getting somewhere when I got my first search warrent. I was all ready to ransack my suspect's apartment. Then... the game freezes. No problem, though, I reload and submit my search warrent evidence again. And it freezes again. I repeat this a few times and finially decide to reboot my machine. Still freeze. I finally give up. A few days later I came back to the game and it was working. This has happened at other points too.

At any rate, I seems like it could be a good game, especially for fans of the show, but with these technical problems, I can't recommend this game.

Avoid it.
