I'd like to know who tested this game. Maybe a frozen screen is part of the game? I better not be wasting my money when I try the second version.

Great First L&O PC Game!!

This started a great series of PC games, I dont watch the show very much at all, but the games are great!! It is really addicting and you get to love to play the game!! I was reading through the reviews on this game, and people are complaining about the time limit. Well, if you choose the "Efficincy" skill it will slow time WAY down to the point where you will be done with the investigation part of the game before like an hour has passed. (in game time, not real time) It has a good storyline, suspicious, annoying, lying characters with secrets to protect, and it is fun to see what suspect you will interrogate next, what lab reports, research of items and people, the survailence unit to tail a suspect, the game is really fun. And when you get into court it is really hard but really fun to play, you don't even have to like the TV show, you will like this game!!! and any other of the two L&O PC games in the series. So Buy It!! Buy Them!!

Would be fun if it didn't have a time frame

There is way too much stuff to be picked up and sent all over the place for testing and researching and whatnot. Unfortunately, some witnesses are only "unlocked" after you submit the right item, so unless you're quite fast picking up stuff etc. you can't solve the case within the allotted time frame.

This game would be very interesting and entertaining if they didn't cut off the investigation after a week (that's game time, not real time).

I am a Law & Order addict and was thrilled when I came across this game. I couldn't wait to get it loaded on my PC, only to find it was frought with problems! Even after upgrading my memory, installing all the patches from the software manufacturer, and cleaning out my hard drive, I still had problems running the game. The speed was quite slow and I had difficulty getting from scene to scene because of this. Despite this, I was very interested in the game and the more difficult the "investigation" proved to be, the more I wanted to see what happened next! After many times failing, I finally made it through the "investigation" and on to "the courthouse," only to have the game freeze up when I was very close to solving the case! I was livid! I am in the process now of replacing my PC system and resolved not to play the game again until the upgrade is complete.

Despite all the problems, the game is quite interesting and the character roles are really close to the actual TV ones. I did have to use the hints on the manufacturer's website quite a bit, as I found the game quite challenging! After patrolling the same area several times, I finally wised up and went for the hints! Another reviewer stated that frequent saves are a must in case the game locks up and I agree completely with that statement. Saving your progress ever so often would prevent having to repeat the same parts of the game over in the event of a freeze-up or botched investigation.

I am looking forward to finishing the game and will purchase the second Law & Order game that is now available. I just hope it will have less technical issues than the first.

Best Game Ever!

It is a good game, interesting like the show. It's bad because it has a short time limit and freezes up every once in a while. But I would recomend it to Law & Order fans.

Yes, 4 stars...even w/ the bugs

I have to admit that at first this game seemed ridiculous. Going through weird pieces of evidence at the crime scene seemed like a waste of time to me and I didn't find the right thing for awhile so I was stuck. I felt a little silly sending cigarette butts to the crime lab. LoL. But once I got the hang of it, it was great. I was lucky to be able to check this game out for free at a local library. Otherwise, the bugs would have really bothered me. One other problem...for a game that stresses logic, the gameplay at time lacks it. I just thought it was odd that when something about a piece of evidence revealed something new about other evidence, the Researcher made no connection when you asked him for analysis again. Other than those things...and of course, the common error of the game freezing sometimes, it is well worth playing. Playing again? Maybe. It might be better to play the game in secret from another person, then have the other person play the game and you monitor their progress. That might be fun to see who solved it faster.

Loved both Law & Orders.

I gave four stars because I want them to continue to make these types of games and without the bugs it is a fun game. I only play and buy adventure and mystery games. The second one didn't have any bugs for me and they made a few improvements, for example they got rid of the time limit and added checkmarks to the notepads.

If you have Javaw.exe error or Can't Start? Try This.

After applying the necessary patches for the 2-CD or 3-CD:

I have the 3 cd version and would get the javaw.exe error and application has to close message, so I couldn't even start the game (played it before but didn't finish, but didn't have that problem the first time.)

Solution=You have to always start the game with the first disc after quitting game.
open cd disc drive on my computer or windows explorer
open disc one
open install folder
open lawandorder (the application)
then wait and opening will start

2**'s only because I Love "Law & Order." The CD? THE FREEZE

Recently purchased this item since I am such a Law & Order fan, the idea of actually "trying to solve a case" via CD ROM would be fun, challenging, and worth the time, $$$ and effort, entertainment-wise. Yes, I have every compatible necessecity, so this is just my experience with this program. The program was easily installed, but once "the games began," it took forever and ever and ever for the game to move and navigate. Everything took too long to download, time "ticked" away to solve the case, but more time was spent waiting for images to display than for us to interact. And the kicker? Each attempt at the game (4x) ended by the entire system freezing without even getting 1/4 of the way through the game regardless of whether or not we "saved" each completed aspect of the game! We finally gave up and returned the game, because while the saving value of the CD ROM is that it is "Law & Order," if others have similar experiences to mine, this game is certainly not worth owning just for the name (unless one collects L&O goodies). Give it a try, by all means; and if one completes the game without incident, great! I hope it was fun!!!

Have yet to see if it does as it claims!

The game, received as a gift last Christmas, has yet to see "the light of day" in my household. During the initial forty minute installation time, the disc "froze" resulting in an incomplete process.

I'm glad my favorite TV detectives/lawyers don't operate this way.

They'd never solve a case if they did.

'Couldn't give it ONE STAR because I'm such a devotee' of the series.
